National/Provincial Parks

Posted by TheIlluminix on 5 April 2019 in English (English)

Hello everyone, I am a new player so I have a question. Do you need permission to turn a place into a National/Provincial park? I would like to turn the Great Ridge Forest and Mount Olympus into some sort of park.

Location: 14.904, 152.548

No, you need much, much more detail. Firstly, Mount Olympus is a name of a famous mountain in Greece.

Secondly, it is extremely hard for a ski resort to exist in such a tropical area; please don’t use the ‘artificial snow’ excuse again.

Thirdly, Mount Olympus is, for some reason, more than 10,000 meters high. Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth, is around 8,000 meters.

Fourthly, I don’t think so any gondolas or roads can go so high.

‘Great Ridge Mountains’ sounds very similar to ‘Blue Ridge Mountains.’

Personally, I see no reason to continue creating these diary entries if you are going to refuse all advice and say that you can do whatever you want in Commonia. While it is fine to ask questions and indeed I should be asking far more questions myself it is not okay to sarcastically brush down answers after asking for help. Also, before adding a large-scale natural park in Commonia, I would suggest that you should develop far more detail over a larger area.

Please try to accept others' suggestions, they are trying to help you develop and get better as a mapper and you can do nothing but gain from almost all suggestions. I understand that not all suggestions will be accepted and you do not need to accept all or even most suggestions, but please do not play them down but try to see if you can incorporate it, especially while you are new.

Best Wishes, Infrarrojo

You are not a player. OpenGeofiction is not a game. It is an art. Please take it seriously.

ahem

i do take your answers seriously, and I never knew there was something called "Blue Ridge Mountains" and I never knew there was already a mount Olympus. Like I said, I am a new MAPPER (for those picky). And if you guys are going to say that i'm refusing all your advice I might as well make Mount Olympus 2 meters high and name it garbage mountain. Also, there is one thing that I have strongly stated i a lot of things I have said. EXPECT CLUMSY MISTAKES FROM ME.

It is fine to make mistakes, to learn from them, and to fix these mistakes: I know I have made plenty of them myself, and I have learned from them: my city, Saint-Armand is way better than Breedon, because I have learned from the mistakes that I have made in the past.

But when you act out like this to legitimate criticism and advice given by your peers, when you threaten to change the name of your mountain to "garbage mountain" just because people don't like the things that you did, like naming a mountain after a RL mountain in Greece (and another in Cyprus), or having a ski resort in the middle of the tropics, or having a mountain that is ridiculously tall, all because "1t's @ bl0u c0un7ry, 1 can d0 wh@tever I want!!!!1111," then we're not going to be as forgiving, or as helpful, since it seems like you're not going to put in the effort to learn from your mistakes.

So please. If this site is making you this angry, please take a break. And hopefully, once you get back, you will be able to cooperate with others; to take constructive criticism, and learn from your past mistakes.

And if you are worried that you won't be able to map if you do take a break from OGF, I hear there are these things called pens and paper... you could use them to draw maps and not have to worry about any sort of criticism. ;)

Okay, but guess what.

I have drawn 26 maps (I counted) of my own fictional worlds using pens and paper. I have made 2 clay model globes of some of my planets, too. And I am changing the name of the mountain to Mount Deltarune.

Mount Deltarune? Seriously? Deltarune is a video game.

Try to think of a fictional name.

Ok, tell me a name that does not already exist. I have never heard of that game.

Here are some names that I could think of:

Mt. Omega, Mt. Xliton, Mt. Xithin, Mt. Coranous, Mt. Jupiter, Mt. Fenderheim, Mt. Trestor.

I'd suggest Mount Magnanakaw. Sounds like a good native Commonian name.
