A well detailed small town would be a good fit for that location. A big gridded city with loads of motorways wouldn’t.

You know what? A road would be a good idea, like a secondary or even a primary road leading to the town from all directions.

If you’re interested, there are a number of more interesting townsites available in the area. For example this one has motorway access, rail access, river access, and a harbor too.

Yea but the nearby roads are just chunky, blocky, probably iD-made. THAT’S the problem.

@TheMapper27: It’s no problem; it’s normal. The lines are blocky because they’re rough sketches waiting for nodes to be added. Almost all lines in OGF — roads, rails, rivers, coasts, borders, etc — are initially drawn like this, and then we add nodes to develop detail.

That’s how “big stuff” is normally mapped in OpenGeofiction. You zoom out to sketch the overall shape of something (a continent, a country, a river, a forest, a highway, a large network of roads, etc) and then you zoom in to add detail. Whenever you’re drawing something big, starting with a rough outline helps ensure that your object has the right size/shape/position/etc. Then you zoom in to create all the little twists and turns. To be sure, you can find examples where people have done things differently… but this is how it’s most commonly done.

Ok well, how do I add them?

When you select a line in iD, you can see a faint triangle halfway between each node and the next one. Just drag that triangle to add a new node.

Another method of adding a node to a line in iD is to select the line and then double-click anywhere along it. But that involves more clicking than the first method. If you want help you’ll need to be more specific.

They both work for me, actually. I always wondered what the triangles are and now I know haha. It is easier than double-clicking.

Not even close. But I think we’d all be more impressed if you went for some kind of mapping record, rather than a User Diaries record. With such a small country you might have a shot at “first territory fully completed” — if you can figure out how to add nodes to a line, haha.

Forget about… or never had the intention to map something? :D When you speak about “mapping records”… recently, there is a very close run to build

• the longest bridge

• the largest building structure using just 4 nodes

• the city with highest population in the wiki by only using the tag “landuse=residential” and “name=…”

• the longest straight highway/railroad with the sharpest corner ever seen
