Hello all,
There has been talk on and off about the way we communicate here on OGF. I agree with some others that creating a forum would be the best way to collaborate. What we have with User Diaries is good, but topics disappear into the past within days. With a forum we would be able to continue discussions even on topics that were started weeks or months ago.
I know we have talk pages on the wiki, but you have to actively seek those out one by one. A forum would provide more visibility for ongoing discussions.
As far as funding, I would be happy to chip in for server hosting fees. I’m sure some of the other mappers would do the same.
What do others say about this?

Yes, I would very much like to endorse isleño’s point. We should make the best use possible of existing resources before “spreading out” into other applications. This will help prevent admin responsibilities and obligations from getting out of hand or overwhelming, and encourage the building of a coherent OGF community. I think the wiki plus the many available extensions is sufficiently powerful to support a good many different types of applications, including blogs (“bliki”), forums, etc.
When I get back to Korea and back to my routine, I am willing to try to explore some of these ideas. I am interested, anyway, in learning more about wiki admin and use.
Currently I am in Southeast Alaska, with relatives. The view from the back deck (picture by my Korean friend), taken a few hours ago.
This is what much of Mahhal looks like, by the way. This land is the real-world prototype - just imagine more population density and enough (imaginary) “temperate rainforest” agricultural practices to support such population.
