My first towns were Caracol (but someone else had started it, I changed it a lot but the original street network is more-or-less the same and many of the original names are retained) and Puerto Desolado, where I did a lot of “clean up” but the basic plan is the same.

I consider both to still be incomplete.

My first town was First Harbor in Orinoco. The blocks are very close together and I had a hard time figuring out the scale, joschi81 added the 1 Km & 1 Mile streets to get me started, they are still in the same spot which is now Opengeo Park. I have always used Potlatch to make edits but I think the ID editor is better for drawing small or very detailed building footprints. I still have to learn JOSM one of these days.

My first town was Fort Anah which is actually in Gobras City, as you can see it is very chaotic, at first I didn’t name any streets but someone named all the streets for me an smoothed out the haphazardness that was the original Fort Anah although most of what I did remains.

My official first town after failing across the map was Highfield, Freedemia.

http://www.opengeofiction.net/#map=15/-3.4387/-2.4136

When I got there, it was just a primary school (which no longer exists) and a reserve. The only street was a street called High Street. That little road is what I named the town after. Slowly it became the main street for the small town, and as messed up as the town started off, it grew to become at least a shell of what it is today. In fact, Quentinsburgh started off as a mistake- I tried to extend the U-4 west and North and created that little pocket that became Downtown Quentinsburgh. Both Quentinsburgh and Highfield grew together and created the metropolitan area there today.

My first settlement was the village of Medsham, made around April 2015. It was based upon an earlier paper sketch I had.

My first proper city was [Katsnelson] (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/26.5466/157.1838) It was started by the user [Subway] (http://opengeofiction.net/user/Subway), and then continued and finished by me. It also has its own series of [wiki pages] (http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Katsnelson), the most detailed one in all of Commonia.

My first city from scratch was Monksbury, north of Katsnelson, although I did have the city centre drawn out on paper beforehand.

The first city that I truly drew from scratch was Ellmouth, in Glaster. This was somewhat better than the others, but I’m planning to rework it in the future.

I used ID for most of them. Connecting roads and parallel ways were drawn using Potlatch. I do have JOSM, I just find it better to use the latter 2. I learned to pay attention to things on a large scale, as things that are fine close up sometimes look bad when you zoom out. I learned to look historically and plan beforehand, allowing my mapping to take some turns for the better. See my most recent town, Decton.

My first town was Doxterity. It was based on a map I made for web site that described a fictional southern California town that a friend of mine made up. When I found OGF, I had not planned on mapping more than just the one town, but obviously things got a little out of control.

I have made updates and changes to the town as I learn new things, corrected scaling and mapping errors, and have tried to update it to be a better fit in the OGF world.

It is the only place that I have mapped where I consider the work mostly complete.

My first village was Zjadradzj in Commonia:

http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/22.4309/157.2195

I just ploughed in and made it in JOSM, as I’ve made all my edits. It needs revisiting -maybe one day!

I then made the first version of the town of Tapi Ra in mainland Tara, a place which has gradually moved further and further out to sea, briefly ending up in Gobrassanya. Tara turned out not really to be a ‘blue’ country. The content is basically the same as originally mapped, though it has been re-sized, rotated and generally messed about with. Some parts of it I like, some I don’t. But I don’t see myself doing much more on it until there is a way to get ‘made-up’ non-unicode fonts into OSM, since that is how it should be named. It is now here:

I’m still stuck on making a city. You can give me feedback on this:

http://opengeofiction.net/#map=13/-57.7383/84.5535

if you want, but I’m not sure exactly where its going at the moment.

Who knows where the ideas come from, there have been a few ‘back of the envelope’ sketches but nothing else on paper.

My first town was Fontjäna in southern Karolia. It’s surprisingly accurate for a first go. I drew some lines in Potlatch, then measured them in the map view and worked out scale. Later I made a card ruler with meters marked out at different zoom levels, along with the lengths for a train, a tram, a parking space etc. Of course, since using JOSM my towns have got a lot better.

Raggleneth in Southwest Pretany. I actually had to go down and remake most of the city because the scale was way off. I had one city block nearly a mile wide because I didn’t have JOSM yet.
