I was fascinated by the story of the Catacombs of Paris and how they came to be. There was once a cemetery in Paris known as the Cemetery of the Innocents that I plan to recreate an OGF version of in St. Richards. It was so full of bodies that they didn’t fully decompose and they used large fat deposits for soap. That got me thinking of an organized plague that could have ravaged our world at one time and how that could have effected our histories. I would like some input on this from other members to see what they think. It could be one plague, or a series of them. How would it have affected the population of the planet, and to what extent? Let’s discuss. My Version of the Cemetery

Your comment reminded me of the - In Our Time - podcast produced by the BBC that I listened to recently on the Black Death. Three experts in their fields discuss their given topic for 45minutes. I’d recommend the entire series to anyone interested in history, culture, science. Some of the topics are very relevant to people making up maps of made-up civilisations. All downloadable for free.

I would be interested in incorporating a great plague into my history. For me, the ideal time would be the second half of the fifteenth century (c.1460-1500). In Wesmandy, it would be a factor in the breakdown of feudal/manorial system, e.g. manors where the population was wiped out by the plague would be prime targets for enclosure. It would be a spur to other changes between medieval and modern too, e.g. it might have sparked early scientific thought as people tried to grapple with its causes and consequences.

In Castilea Archantea there was a great plague at the 11th century which was called the Great Sleep. It finished with the Tahiri supremacy and the Lagos culture.

The Great Sleep sounds like a terrifyingly awesome name for a global plague.
