The Uletarephian Union

During the past few weeks, Oscar and I have worked together on the project of the Uletarephian Union (UU) and a few other things.

We named that sea the Ilemian Sea / el Mar Ilemia / I Tale Ilemia, from the classical Hellanisian word that means calm/peaceful. We also named that straight the Stephanian Straight / el Estrecho de Estefania / I Esteno Stefanê, according to the names of the towns on both sides.

Now let’s dive into the main project :

The Uletarephian Union

History

The UU was founded in the late 1980’s by Egani and Pohenicia (and another country?) as the result of a will to cooperate, to create mutual support between the economies and the politics of these countries, giving more power and rights to the citizens. A few of the institutions that were created in the beginning were gradually separated from the UU and became international institutions managed by the UU and the Assembly of nations.

Organization

The Uletarephian Union is organized around two legislative chambers, one committee and several institutions.

The Uletarephian Parliament

The members of this chamber are elected by the citizens of the countries. They are placed in the parliament according to their political party. The parliament is composed of 450 deputies who are replaced every 4 years by new deputies. They can’t be reelected more than twice.

  • The members of the parliament submit laws, suggestions and protocols.
  • They oversee the projects and make sure that these projects comply with the laws.
  • They accept or not the projects and suggestions from the Uletarephian Assembly.
  • It is situated in Pohenicia, in Puerto Elisabeth, in the district of finance.

The Uletarephian Assembly

This chamber is composed of 1000 citizens who are randomly chosen every two years among volunteers from the countries of the UU. The number of citizens of each nationality in the chamber is proportional to the population of the country they are from. A citizen can be chosen several times and have the right to decline the invitation.

  • The citizens of the Assembly submit laws, suggestions and protocols.
  • The accept or not the projects and suggestions from the Parliament.
  • It is situated in Egani, in Tilia, in the new district of administrative affairs. The citizens of each nationality come to live in Tilia during these two years.

The Uletarephian Commission

It is composed of the heads of state and a Government Council for each country of the UU. The heads of state are part of the Permanent Commission and the Government Council is part of the Temporary Commission. The Government Council is composed of 20 deputies per country and they are replaced every two years. These deputies are elected by the citizens of the same country which are part of the Uletarephian Assembly.

The Commission has to oversee the Parliament and the Assembly. It can also submit laws and make suggestions but it doesn’t have the power to decide. The members of the Commission are also the ambassadors of each country and of the UU in international meetings.

It is situated in Egani, in Skael, a town with a vast administrative complex.

The other institutions

  • The Uletarephian Economic and Social Committee (Monsaró, Barrio Diagonal, Pohenicia)
  • The Uletarephian Court of Justice (Regio Lexos, Barrio Centro, Pohenicia)
  • The Uletarephian Court of Auditors (Krisoaral, Egani)
  • The Defender of the Uletarephian People (Skael, Egani)
  • The Uletarephian Regional Policy/Cohesion Policy (Skael, Egani)
  • The Uletarephian Program for the Mobility of University Students (Saavedra, Pohenicia)
  • The Uletarephian Trade Commitee (Puerto Elisabeth, Barrio Financiero, Pohenicia)
  • The Uletarephian Cultural Commitee, with the aim of rewarding every year several towns or cities in the UU that have promoted and made efforts for culture, youth, pratrimony and environment. (Ilíberis, Pohenicia)

International organizations from the UU

These organizations were originally created for the people of the countries of the UU, but they gradually started operating overseas and became international organizations linked to the UU and to the AN.

International Organization for the Defence of LGBT Rights, IOD-LGBT-R:

The main objective of this organization is to protect the rights of LGBT people worldwide. It educates and informs people, supports local iniciatives and fights in favor of equality between orientations. The headquarters are situated in Sykeala, Egani.

International Women’s Organization, IWO:

Some of the objectives : To promotes gender equality and women’s suffrage, to fight against persecution, to protect the rights of women and helps the ones who live in developping countries through education, health and empowerment. The headquarters are situated in the district Lineal, Puerto Elisabeth, Pohenicia.

International Committee for the Development of New Energies, ICDNE

To promote the use and development of renewable energies, but also to help research new sources of energies. The headquarters are situated in Alnisi, Egani.

International Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities, IASPD

To help people with disabilities, by supporting local associations, iniciatives, and the development of adapted infrastructures and health systems. The headquarters are in Diploquar district, Maldojeh, Neo Delta, since 2005.

International Organization for the Protection of Seas and Oceans, IOPSO

To protect natural marine and coastal habitats from destruction, pollution, overfishing and poaching, worldwide. Headquarters also situated in Alsini, Egani, as the original organization was only to protect the Ilemian sea, but it quickly expanded.

Last of all

We invite the countries situated around the Ilemian sea and on this peninsula to take part in the project and to join de Union. We would like the third country to have founded the UU to be TA027 or TA025. We might also change the location of a few of the institutions’ headquarters if new countries join the union in the future.

We would like some help to find/create the Infoboxes for the wiki articles of the Union and for the international organizations.

Yay, great initiative, guys! I really think one of the most interesting aspects of OGF is the number of cooperative projects we created, and this one seems to have been really thought throught, so congratulations!

And I’m honored to have Neo Delta to host the headquarters of the International Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities (IASPD)! This and the other organizations you came up with are very relevant in OGF and outside of it! :D

This looks really good! (It reminds me that we need to do some work on the Vinnic Economic Community :) ).

I wonder about the name, though. Isn’t “Uletarephian” the adjective for Uletha + Tarephia, and is that appropriate for a union which covers such a small fraction of each continent? It’s rather like Greece, Turkey and Cyprus calling themselves the “Eurasian Union”.

Does a country have to be in the UU or support all of the Committees/Organizations etc to be a part of some of the committees?

Freedemia doesn’t want to be part of the UU, but it would be very interested being part of ICDNE, IWO, and IASPD.

The UU looks like a great idea! I also love the thought of daughter organizations growing and becoming global. Mauretia would absolutely want to be part of the IWO, IASPD, and the IOPSO. It would be interested in the ICDNE so long as it doesn’t stand against natural gas production (we’re working hard at transitioning away from such dependence, but it’s a slow go).

Nice start. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Many of the countries in this region are ownerless or inactive. To reach out to a very small group of people in a limited geographic area, find country owners via the overview map and contact them by private message.
  • Organizations can be listed in the wiki at List of international organizations.
  • Some of the international organizations mentioned should probably be older than the UU (at the extreme end, for example, international women’s organizations have existed for well over a century in real life). It might also be nice if these organizations had a more inclusive “worldwide” origin, i.e. diverse groups from around the globe coming together in a more egalitarian way.

@Pawl : Thank you ! In fact I think you’re right and I didn’t think about that aspect. The UU, for the moment, is not meant to become a continent-sized union. I will discuss that with Oscar and we can also discuss it on the talk page.

@kingfries @Alessa @Ernestpcosby : These international organizations are not meant to have members, as they should be operating across the world. But I guess you can build little branches/agencies of these organizations in your countries if you want to.

@isleño : I will list the organizations ;-) I also didn’t think about the fact that they may be older and have a more worldwide origin. I’m taking that into account and will separate some of them from the UU. We are in contact with the owner of TA025 but mostly other neighbours are inactive. However we are willing to build this union slowly and carefully with future neighbours.

This is interesting. I would be interested in participating on the naming of the desert regions in northern Tarephia. I noticed the eastern part of the continent, there is the Serion Desert, while in the west, there is the Great Helion Desert.

Drevet & Wustesonne are located in an extremely isolated and remote part of the continent. They are essentially islands. So an organization like this could help these countries develop trade agreements.

@PColombus73 : I guess you can always suggest names :) it will also be interesting to see the names in the language of the countries where the desert is. We would be glad to develop trade agreements. I think we prefer to wait to see if closer countries want to join the union before, as there doesn’t seem to be any historical/cultural link between our countries (for the moment ! we should develop these too). Your countries could be observer countries, partners or even on ongoing accession.
