Hello everyone! I need some technical help.

As a lot of my work on OGF is a copy of what I map on paper (which I personally find a lot more convenient), I am looking for a way to extract information from JOSM to get a file that I will be able to put on a program and print.

For example :

I would like to extract the relation of Egani’s boundaries and coastline. Then I need to find a program to make a very high resolution image (tens of thousands of pixels) of the data with lines. After that I may print a very big paper representing the data and work on it with pens and pencils.

Problems : - I Don’t know how to extract the data that way - I Don’t know which program to use to represent the relation on very high quality - Am I using the right technique to reach my goal?

I have no idea if what I want if possible, I cross fingers. If you have other ideas, I will be happy to hear them.

During the past few weeks, Oscar and I have worked together on the project of the Uletarephian Union (UU) and a few other things.

We named that sea the Ilemian Sea / el Mar Ilemia / I Tale Ilemia, from the classical Hellanisian word that means calm/peaceful. We also named that straight the Stephanian Straight / el Estrecho de Estefania / I Esteno Stefanê, according to the names of the towns on both sides.

Now let’s dive into the main project :

The Uletarephian Union

History

The UU was founded in the late 1980’s by Egani and Pohenicia (and another country?) as the result of a will to cooperate, to create mutual support between the economies and the politics of these countries, giving more power and rights to the citizens. A few of the institutions that were created in the beginning were gradually separated from the UU and became international institutions managed by the UU and the Assembly of nations.

Organization

The Uletarephian Union is organized around two legislative chambers, one committee and several institutions.

The Uletarephian Parliament

The members of this chamber are elected by the citizens of the countries. They are placed in the parliament according to their political party. The parliament is composed of 450 deputies who are replaced every 4 years by new deputies. They can’t be reelected more than twice.

• The members of the parliament submit laws, suggestions and protocols.
• They oversee the projects and make sure that these projects comply with the laws.
• They accept or not the projects and suggestions from the Uletarephian Assembly.
• It is situated in Pohenicia, in Puerto Elisabeth, in the district of finance.

I developped a new town in southern Egani, and I tried to save the changes, but :

“Version mismatch: Provided 93, server had: 96 of Relation 10071”

How can I do to save the changes if it happens again ? It’s not the first time it, and I don’t really know how to solve the problem.

Hello, I know that Thilo is actually working on it, and I think it would be a good idea to talk about new continents with users.

“It’s only a first draft, and must be expected to change quite a bit. The policy is that the continents are “reserved for future use”. The rough idea is as follows:

with the new continents, we have the chance to create something more coherent with regard to climate, vegetation zones, language groups, large-scale geographic features etc. Once the final shape has been determined, we should probably create one or more wiki pages where proposals for all those issues can be submitted and discussed.

the ownership model is also not yet determined. With these continents, the shape of our world will be mostly finalized; especially there won’t be room for further expansion, so we need an ownership model that can accommodate new users forever without having add new land areas.

Also, the continents don’t have names yet. That’s something that I haven’t even thought about, so suggestions are welcome.”

Not talking about the future way countries will be drawn and given to users, but about the shape and climate and relief of continents. Will users choose the relief and climate of their countries, following a few rules to make things coherent ? Or will they choose their country where everything is already set ?

Today I tried to go mapping a bit, but there are problems with editing tools of the in-browser editor. When I click on a line for example, nothing happens, it’s like I’ve not clicked, I can’t select anything, and I didn’t find any way to solve this problem. It happens sometimes and I can’t edit…

I’m slowly creating the background of this country. It is currently composed of a few former independant states that met hundreds of years ago, influenced by Sathrian history. People are mostly native from this country, there are sathrian people and between 5 and 10% of nomad people that have partly settled. The country has its own language that I’m slowly inventing too, mostly from Greek, then Latin and Slavic words.

I’m looking for a good name for my country. I want it to have an etymology that fits with the country’s history. I have several ideas, and I need help to make names from these groups of words :

• “Trayadasi (an) not” (southland/way to the south = People from easthern Uletha were passing by this region to go to Tarephia for commerce)

• “Panes Ka’lini” or “Scanda Ka’lini” (region of the great lake)

• “Kapanes ligoi” (united great regions)

Maybe you have other ideas.. With this work, I could start making wiki page about the country.

As you can see on this area, some countries have their frontiers in the sea, a few kilometers away from the coast. I would like my country UL203 to have the same. What can I do ?

I started drawing a city (yes, real paper and real pencils !) called Tilia, 1 year ago. I’m drawing maps for years and I’m doing it better everyday, Tilia is a kind of goal of the big city I would love to live in. It is inspired from many different european cities and has a great history that I’m still writing. When I learn good facts about a real city, I try to apply them to Tilia. I’m still drawing it, an update will be added in a few weeks. I’m also drawing other cities and villages of my country on paper.

I’m talking to thilo by messages to make Sathria’s relief / economy / roads / languages / currency… and UL203’s correspond (not to be the same, but to keep things logical).

And I have a very important question : As I started drawing cities and my country on paper, how can I reproduce them on the OGF map ?

Hi,

I had the idea of creating the World Organization of Sustainable Urbanism.

The WESU is a an organisation that aims to promote sustainable urbanism around the OGF world.

Here is the head office :

The goal of this organisation is to make a group of sustainable cities to give exemples : to show that natural environment can also be developped in cities and that we can also fight aggaist global warming in OGF.

You can ask a WESU label for your city to join the organisation. But your city needs to follow several rules :

• be green (with parcs/forests/natural places and clever ecological systems as Gobras city’s woods for exemples : http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/20.7124/86.6517)

• be quite unpolluted (not too many highways and carparcs/with a good railway, metro or tramway system/few cars and many pedestrians streets)

• be social (many pedestrians areas/cultural places/public gardens…)

Some of the previous rules can’t be seen on the map, this is why you should explain how your city is eco-friendly (ex : green energies). You are welcome to add things to this list if you want.

If your city respect these rules, you are also welcome to add the WESU ambassy to it.

Also I’m not english so I don’t know if the name sounds good.

I know this is almost nothing but I want to say that I really appreciate mapping here.. I’m currently working on the first one, in my country.

Hi, I’ve just got my territory (UL203) and I wanted to make big lakes and modifie the coastline to make it more realistic but I don’t know how to make them, for the moment I can just make little bits because I’m using iD… So I downloaded JOSM because I read that it will be easier to make big and long things. I followed the FAQ advices for editing with JOSM on the map but when I select it in the editing options (iD/Potlatch/JOMS) a message appears : editing failed : make sure JOSM is loaded and the remote control option is enabled. I don’t really understand what does it mean.

Do I do something wrong ? Do you have easier ways to make big and long things for my country ?
