Hello,
I have had mixed results trying to portray a planned highway extension. I have been using the “highway=proposed” tag and then a “proposed=highway” key, as instructed here.
At first I did not think this worked at all since the ways just disappear like untagged items, but then I switched to Histor’s style and it does in fact display a dashed highway like one would expect. (Histor I am coming around on using your style all the time, tip of the hat to you for its existence.) So this combination of tags does work, just not in the “standard” style that I assume most people use.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to overcome this? Anyone have a better way to show planned construction?

It’s not quite the same, but highway = construction renders a blue-dashed line which I use both for roads under construction as well as for planned roads. I made a decision to compromise by not differentiating between the two just because the highway = planned doesn’t render.

I do the same as Demuth, using highway=construction and construction=primary/secondary/etc…
As I use in Campo Verde and Paranabi - take a look, are different colours because the tag “construction=”

I too ran into this problem, and made the same decision to just call anything “proposed” “construction.” You can use “name=(Proposed 2017)” or such to disambiguate.

In the standard-style there are the two tags necessary, as Demuth, BMSOUZA and Luciano wrote. If you will declaire a road in standard-style as planed only, you can give a name like Lucianos solution.

The old OSM style used to show highway=proposed, the new one was changed where it does not show. I am disappointed by the change as well, but have adapted. In my case I simply accept that proposed roads will not show on the map but will be there if one is looking at the map data.
