Why ingerland a dominant power?

Posted by superleaf1995 on 7 March 2019 in English.

Why it is it? UK in real life is strong in navy because is an island, and its more practical defending the sea rather than defending the own land (wich leads to domestic loss and domestic loss leads to unable to colonize properly), UK was really strong because its navy protected him a lot, (without his navy UK very probs lost WW1 and WW2), UK used its navy to navigate trough the world, and trough making many colonies around it (US,Australia,New Zealand,India,West Indies, and many other countries), so it happens exactly in OGF Ingerland with FSA and more countries, but i think Ingerland should be a secondary power like france, wich had many navy but not like UK, but had a lot of more soldiers, in contrast to UK, Ingerland is not an island so it will be more concentrated on protecting his mainland, even trough ignerland had islands off coast, it would need to still defend its mainland, navy would be secondary thus making everything hard for ingerland (Unleast its an switerzeland but thats fucking impossible since colonizing isn’t neutral act, and will un-neutralize it).

Ingerland is a dominant power because most mappers want their countries to speak Ingerish, and so Ingerland had to have been a dominant power. It’s not logic, it’s “meta logic.”

Ingerland is where it is and the way it is because user Andy got here nice and early and made it the way it is and where it is. And we late-comers just have to deal with it, because Andy has zero interest in collaboration (I asked him about it, a few years ago).

“First come, first serve.”

Anyway, there are plenty of ways to make a “just so” history so that Ingerland had some advantage to compensate for it’s less propitious position. Perhaps they industrialized a bit earlier in OGF than in the real world, giving them that much more of a technological edge. Perhaps there was a widely dispersed Ingerish-speaking diaspora in the pre-modern era (look at Pretany, at Wesmandy, or even Alora). So instead of one Ingerish-speaking empire taking off in the 1600s, there were several. OGF doesn’t have to be a perfect, parallel-Earth. I think it would be impossible to make it happen, given the loose nature of collaboration here.

And by the way, @Jesus - is it really necessary to use profanity in what is otherwise a reasonable question?

One thing I’ve realised is that what we do need in OGF is a cohesive storyline for why the world is the way it is.

Of course, if done wrong, this could veer off into overwikification, and each country is sort of a puzzle piece which needs to fit in to the world at large… but one major part of this storyline is Ingerland. Why is it the way it is?

Interesting, Luciano, that you would mention a ‘diaspora’. It’s possible that these countries had Ingerish influence early on, and from here culture has spread. Maybe this goes against the idea of a few Ingerish-speaking countries where culture comes from, but many (it’s not just like in our world, with the Five Eyes or whatever).

The main problem is all of these mappers, I think it was Sarepava who said this, who have little to make their country of beyond ‘Generic City, USA’. I’m thinking, for instance, of all this uncreative American-styled mapping, and that one guy who made a country obsessed with money and unrealistic building plans. Where do they fit in to the puzzle?

As for Xenica, that is a ‘New World’ country, and not much influence on the world, except we probably supplied the rubber to make your car tyres.
