I’m confused. Since when is there a new landmass? What are (going to be) the policies for claiming this new territory (when it becomes available - I’m assuming it isn’t yet since I don’t see it on the overview map)?
Apologies if I sound mad (I’m surprised, not angry) and/or if there’s supposed to be a post about this and I wasn’t supposed to bring this up… even though it’s been mentioned already.

Oh - Paxtar had made a rotationing globe with the new land - see below in the user diaries. The form of this landmass is a try and may be not that, what later can be new land for OGF-users. So please wait a while …

The new landmass has been planned for a long time, and has occasionally been mentioned. Big changes are afoot… there are no official policies about it yet, and until it appears on the overview map, with demarcated territories, it’s not “official.” Note, however, that there is being developed a new overview map, here : http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Territories
Anyway, don’t panic or worry. Announcements will come eventually.

It’s only a first draft, and must be expected to change quite a bit. The policy is that the continents are “reserved for future use”. The rough idea is as follows:
Also, the continents don’t have names yet. That’s something that I haven’t even thought about, so suggestions are welcome.

Since this is the ‘new world’, we can name one or both after an explorer, like the Americas.

Thanks for all of your responses so far. Like I said, I’m surprised, not worried. I look forward to see what will happen with this new land, especially how it’ll look when we’ve finalized the shape of it and how we’ll incorporate it into the already existing countries’ history, if that makes any sense.

There are some countries left still so maybe we won’t run out of territories so quickly :)
It’s an interesting idea to name this new land after some explorer(s). Some country with water access can do an expedition.
Also, two expeditions are possible. For example one from Chastechek -> new land islands and another from some west country to other side of that new land :)
Of course it can even be an expedition od explorers from few countries working together! :)

I did some quick looking, and it seems that Drevet has the closest seaport to the New World (going West). It looks like Orinoco and Vega has the closest seaports going East.

The new continents will make for more trading and commerce etc. The linear ocean that separates the new world north and south could be a plate boundary similar to the one that divides the Atlantic.

So, here’s my idea of expeditions. I just added my country, so you can see that it’s quite good place to get to this islands :)
Also, somebody can make a map from the other side of Old World.

This got me thinking: surely the planet would have polar regions which are permanently covered in ice and should appear around the north and south poles? Obviously they would be uninhabited aside from scientific bases.
Also, as there are many ex-colonial countries in the existing world, could this new landmass be the ‘old world’ from which settlers originated?

I agree for the polar regions, poles with floe in water or Ice cap on the lands. We could maybe create more lands near the poles as there is not a lot of ice compared to Earth.
For a long time we’ve been considering that Uletha is a kind of Eurasia. I think that these new continents wouldn’t have been harder to discover than Archanta for example.
Also we can imagine that history of humanity began at several places at the same time, and these new continents would have a very old history as Europe too, mixed with Ulethan conquests after wars for example. And this should be planned before strating to map.

I just named the “new” land New :D History can be written by all of us, so it’s the Old World and we live in New one.
Also, I saw some icy regions on the map far in the north already :)

It actually scared me when I saw the new landmass! It’s like looking at a globe and seeing a new country you’ve never heard of before just show up out of nowhere…
