Albedeer Uni, Gobras City

Posted by wangi on 22 November 2016 in English (English)

It's taken ages, but the first pass of the Albedeer University campus in Gobras City is complete... Next up is more shops & facilities, but that can wait a bit. And the far west of the campus...

If you know where to look there's still a fair bit of the original plan by Wal there.

This looks absolutely terrific. I particularly like experimenting and research areas. Definitely one of the best universities in the OGF world.

It looks great Wangi. UG Prado Plains found some extra cash so now they are upgrading their campus and stadium too.

You really have a sense for detail. Nice work!

Oh man, this is amazing! Very high level of detail. I'm constantly amazed by Gobras City and how real it looks. To me, the infrastructure in the southern suburbs reminds me of suburban Houston, Texas (with the frontage roads and large interchanges)

Keep up the great work!

Looks pretty darn good there!! I agree with thunderbird that Gobras City reminds me of Houston, even down to the names of the freeways. :P

I live in Houston (Katy to be exact) and I was wondering what feeders were doing in Gobras. The difference though is Gobras looks even more suburban than Houston(proper). It seems the entire southern half of the city is low density burbs.

Thanks all.

Yeah, there's a fair bit of influence from Houston going on, but sort of independently from the various editors i'd say. Spent loads of time around SW Houston myself. Likewise there's a lot of Calgary in the suburbs too.

One of the gaps in Gobras city is that the centre and immediate suburbs haven't be completed to anything near the level of the out suburbs. My vision there is the street grid giving way to mid-density social housing & high-density towers (think post-war Britain). This is the only part where it's been completed so far: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/20.7130/86.6897

If I could go back in would have started editing near the center and then slowly made my way out. Uroobai was my first suburb and then I started jumping around a lot. I'd like to think that a lot of the suburbs have housing similar to the developments in suburban Dublin or London with semi detached homes on smaller lots.

Maybe a backstory for Gobras City could be that several international development companies created most of the suburbs during a boom. This would explain the slight differences in the street patterns. My edits could be from an Orinocan company using some Orinocan labor. Florida has several cities that were laid out by the same company in the 70s. If you look at Palm Bay, Port St. John and Port St. Lucie they all look the same and were all built by General Development Corp.
