Hm, thought I was done for the night, but apparently not.
I was just wondering: I would like to have shipping lines running from Orlenna to several other places, e.g. Khaiwoon, Villa Constitución, Phoenix, Elegantia … do I need to ask permission of the owners of those places to enter their harbors, or should I just go ahead and do it?

Probably best to ask, but for Villa you have my permission - feel free. I agree it would have been nice to have a tutorial. . . it has been a long process for me to develop skills in JOSM. I have completely rebuilt some areas several times as I get better at it.

To ask is better as not to do so. So I ask before the owner of the land, to build a shipping line.
And - has the land an useful harbour? So it is the first item, to have shipping lines to others, to set a harbour at the own coast. There can start your own line and there can land lines from others.
If there is a shipping line to another country, then the second step are embassies vice-versa. It is good use, to ask the other partner, if he want this.
Most people, I ask, agreed with shipping lines and embassies.

my doubt is about creating this very-long routes… in my own country, there are some islands far from the main island, and I dont know how to create a direct line between these ports so far away. The same problem to international routes…
