Pathfinding/Directions Issues

Posted by Aces California on 10 November 2017 in English.

I’ve being trying to fix an issue with a pair of intersections in one of my towns, and the issue is exclusively with the Directions/Pathfinding ability on OGF. Find linked HERE the issue at hand.

To explain, I have a one-way system on both roads, which is correctly laid out, but the directions don’t seem to acknowledge the existence of the A4 highway. I’ve relaid every section of the highway to fix it, totally delete the interchange and then rebuild it from scratch. I don’t see a reason why the directions don’t see the A4 highway as existing, and I pride myself on having all roads navigable with the direction tool, so this is frustrating me a tiny bit.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Keep Up The Mapping

Help Requested Urgently!

Posted by Aces California on 27 October 2017 in English.

I need some serious help, I’ve messed something up big time! So I’m working on changing the tags for roads in San Vale and Breassau State, and I deleted a bunch of roads from around San Vale and to the west of it, but somehow it didn’t delete all the nodes, so now there are blank nodes everywhere, and I can’t get rid of them all! Can somebody come and help please? I’m not sure at all how it happened!

Status of Weekly Words

Posted by Aces California on 3 October 2017 in English.

Sorry for the delay and lack of information, but I wanted to consider something up before I posted.

You are aware I did not post the Weekly Word for this week. Well that is because there is going to be a small but major change. The challenges will still take place over one week, with words picked to you can be as small or large as you want with it. But I think a week is too little time for people to come up with a unique concept and execute it, so we’re extending the time between challenges.

There will now be a week between each challenge, with the word for the next challenge announced as the first comment of each Diary entry to give people a week to think of concepts, maybe experiment, maybe get a slight head start (though beware with that, the challenge may not align with what you are building if you rush to build for the word).

Hopefully, this will mean more people will be able to compete in the challenges, and offer up entries that are greater quality for them personally, instead of rushing it.

The final thing is I want to remind you what the next word, starting next week, will be, so you can start thinking of what to do. The word is

BLUE

Thanks for reading, I hope to see you in the next Weekly Word Challenge, and Keep Up The Mapping!

Weekly Word; Hot Challenge

Posted by Aces California on 26 September 2017 in English. Last updated on 2 October 2017.

The Introduction

Hello again! Last week’s Weekly Word was a massive success and I thank everybody for joining us last time in the last challenge!

I want to preface this week’s competition by announcing much more publicly here for last week’s Weekly Word our winner is

Ūdilugbulgidħū with Mickle Iction

His work was extremely nicely thought out, with not only landuse and buildings, but an eye for detail from farm names to tags to even the power poles! It was incredible detail and definitely helped to imagine walking through that village.

Now, I need to discuss the words. I’ve decided to change the format once again with the words, to offer you all chance to think about a word before the competition starts. I won’t give you the exact challenges but I’m gonna to tell you the word for next week as well so you can start thinking on the topic.

I’d still like you to submit words, and good words will be added to the end of the list, maybe if you give me a really good word, I’ll put it right to the top of the queue ;).

Now! The word for this week is;

HOT

Another word that could mean multiple things and interpreted in multiple ways. Hot to me could link to anything from a volcano, a desert, a tourist resort, to a fire station, or building gutted by fire. Whatever it is, it has to feel “hot” in one way or another. For examples this week;

But again, I suggest you go as out of the box as possible with this word and surprise me. A surprise is the best way to gain points ;P. Be as detailed or un-detailed as you want, again it’s not the only thing I judge off.

Your deadline for this challenge is;

2 October 12:00 Midnight UTC

And again, feel free to add more suggestions, next week’s word will be “Blue”, make good use of it! I look forward to your entries for this week, good luck everybody!

Hey hey all, so this just came up on my Twitter feed, from the same coders who created Uncharted Atlas, another piece of code I follow.

Metropologeny appears to be a series of procedurally generated city and settlement maps that honestly, looking through, I would expect to see in OGF or real life! I’m amazed it was all done in code really! Thought it’d be something of interest for everybody to see, I’ll post another link below, and a link to the Uncharted Atlas, which is similar in that it’s procedurally generated countries. I would seriously suggest you check them out!

Weekly Word; Pheonix Edition

Posted by Aces California on 19 September 2017 in English. Last updated on 23 September 2017.

Weekly Word; The Introduction

Hello hello!

So we’ve slightly gone off the tracks for the Weekly Word, and I feel it’s because we’re mainly relying on members to take control of posting, responding, picking the winner, etc. Whilst it is nice to have a more community feel, I think that you need to have a strong and stable leader for the weekly running of it. So I’m gonna take an attempt at spearheading the whole thing, so welcome to the Pheonix Edition of the Weekly Word!

If you haven’t come across this game before, I’ll explain it to you in a quick fashion, any more questions you can direct to me or down in the responses.

The game runs for an entire week from Monday to Monday, roughly Midnight to Midnight UTC, though I might be a bit lenient for late entries by a couple hours. Each week, we will give you one or two words that will make you think out of the box in mapping something that is outstanding or unique.

I’ll also attempt to give you a few OGF examples of any words that are used.

NOW here is the twist in format for the Pheonix Edition!

Every entry HAS to be accompanied by 1 or 2 words that you would like to see in the next Weekly Word. I will then pick my favorite prompt for the next Weekly Word. So in reality, you can win twice on a Weekly Word if your prompt for next week is picked!

So let us continue with this week’s competition, your word you will be working with is

MINOR

Not everything that needs to be mapped are large Olympic sized stadiums, or Intercontinental airports, or massive multi-lane highways spanning an entire country.

There’s something to be said about the mapping of smaller items, it gives a sense of scale, location, economy, all sorts! So your challenge for this week will be to map something small, it could be a stadium or sports pitch, local or regional airports, country-roads, for example.

Referencing Needed

Posted by Aces California on 10 August 2017 in English.

Hey All, so, I’m still in Singapore so I can’t take on big projects, but it has given me time to look back retrospectively on aspects of Tierajas-Verdes, and one thing I have NEVER been happy with is the mountain region to the west of the country, as seen on the map if you click the Location link. I could never get it to look right even in a Macro scale, and I put that down to never really finding a good reference to work off for the mountains.

I will probably only start work on this once back from holiday on the big computer at home, but I want to know some places I can reference mapped in OSM or OGF, that can influence how I style my mountain mapping. I’m looking for like a Sub-tropical rain-forest looking mountain range, or just any with a really high concentration of trees.

Or alternatively, if anybody could give me some tips on how to draw them in a sort of OSM style, I’d love that too!

Thanks in advance! Keep Up The Mapping!

Weekly Word #7

Posted by Aces California on 17 July 2017 in English.

Hello people! So, since I won last week’s Weekly Word Electricity, and do check out the other entries! It is my turn to run the Weekly Word, this lucky number 7.

A note before I reveal the word, I’m glad I participated in last week’s Weekly Word since it kicked me into working even more on a project I have been putting off for quite a while, and it’s looking great!

So, our new Weekly Word, inspired by last week’s revealing of the new World Heritage Sites in real life, including our very own Lake District, the word this week will be…

HERITAGE

So, take it whatever way you’d like, some natural heritage like the Lake District, buildings, entire towns or villages, heritage railways, those are just some ideas I suppose!

The deadline for entries will be Thursday 18th at 22:00 UTC. Can’t wait to see your entries! The reveal of the winner may be a day or two late since I will be flying out for my holiday on Monday.

Keep up the mapping!

OGF Wiki Error

Posted by Aces California on 13 July 2017 in English.

Hey All, I don’t know if anybody else is having trouble with the wiki but it seems to be down for me. I don’t know if it’s local but I’d know it’s not if everybody else has a problem…as it goes :P I’ve got an error saying this exactly;

“Internal error - OpenGeoFiction(wiki?)

[75db9a2ba08f7e2051f974de] 2017-07-13 11:47:00: Fatal exception of type “DBUnexpectedError” “

So yeah, is anybody else having trouble or know if it’s local to me? I can be patient but I was editing an article, so I am not.

Thanks in advance

hello all, I need serious help with the new search thing..Noma…whatever. Frankly I don’t like it, because I don’t understand it xD I preferred the old search thing, but I don’t know the name of it either. Which is why I am asking.

What is the name of the old search thing that can search for specific tags? Or can anybody explain to me how I can search by tag on the new Nomatilian or whatever.

Sorry for being so frank, but I am extremely frustrated as I have not been able to understand it for months, and it is getting to me REALLY BADLY. Thanks in advance

Hey all, happy May. White Rabbit. I’m writing up a Diary Entry tonight with the hope that this May, I can do something different.

I need a break from working on the Bengali inspired Tierajas-Verdes, just to like…refresh. Come back to it with fresh eyes, fresh ideas, a renewed sense of motivation. Not to say motivation is gone, I love working on Tierajas-Verdes, I’d just like a change.

Which is why I come to you…I have 3 options on the table as I see fit. Solo, Community, Collaboration. I’ll go through each separately;

Solo

So…I’ve been concidering the case of BMSOUZA and a few others I can’t name off the top of my head, in that they have multiple countries of…varying differences. In my last Bliki (Here), I mentioned that I was considering options for the relatively TINY TA113c. And whilst, it is appealing to once again build…EVEN SMALLER on this level in terms of size of a country. And it gives an opportunity for a Mediterranean style project of that of Greece, Malta, Cyprus etc. I’m also drawn to the idea of what is currently The Holy Cross and reforming it into something different and more akin politically to a modern version of the old Papal States (?)…sorta a Religious Federation.

What I have been feeling conflicted with, is if this is technically allowed? If I can have a second state if I feel like my first is progressing quite nicely at a steady rate. And as said, gives me a different style to work on for coming back to Tierajas-Verdes, I can have fresher eyes.

Density in OGF

Posted by Aces California on 21 April 2017 in English.

Hey all, this is an off-handed question because I’m just curious if anybody else is as mad as me, but what’s the densest quality mapping you have all seen in OGF? Like packed in tight blocks of buildings. It’s because sometimes I do worry that the density I work at takes an effect on the OGF servers (though it’s probably not me bringing it down all the time realistically). Also, just because there’s something just aesthetically pleasing to see dense mapping.

Tonight, I have been considering the operation of the national flag-bearing airline of Tierajas-Verdes, JEV. I think I was on the right track in splitting operations between three companies comprising of JEV, Pavparvati, Liberan and Bidesi, as well as a cargo company.

However, I’m starting to consider the viability of running an airline between towns in Tierajas-Verdes which is smaller than Belgium. Which would require use of maybe 5-15 passenger airplanes. I can still see economically JEV Pavparvati running with that scale, IF it was maybe the largest percentage of transport between towns.

Sadly though, I intend for the railways to be the most used transportation between towns in Tierajas-Verdes, meaning the idea of JEV Pavparvati would be a failure.

This is where I’d like your input on the matter. Should I continue on with JEV Pavparvati as a company, run a smaller fleet, and make it the smallest company? Or more radically, share the air and rail between Public Companies.

The idea here, is that since the railways will be the most important transportation link between towns, I came up with two options. Merge the major railway routes of Tierajas-Verdes into a company in JEV, and totally rename and restructure the company, so that this new railway company will run the domesticated flights under the JEV name.

Alternatively, I am also considering making a brand new company, separate from JEV all together, though still Publicly owned, in which the railway company of Tierajas-Verdes that run the routes, will either run beside, or replace, long-distance train services with flights between towns. So for example, there may be a train-route from Punto de Christopher to Parirakbe, making frequent stops along the way. But there will also be a local flight on an airplane with 5-15 passengers taking you direct from Punto de Christopher to Parirakbe, but is still run by the national railway. If that’s easier to understand?

Wiki Template Help

Posted by Aces California on 8 March 2017 in English.

Hello, I need some real help with a template I am making. It’s seemed to have screwed everything up and I have no clue what is going on. The template is here (http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Infobox_football_association). I’d be eternally glad if somebody who knows what they are doing can fix whatever it is going on, everything I try to do makes it worse…I have no use in the world of code x3

Bliki Reminder

Posted by Aces California on 28 February 2017 in English.

Hello, don’t want to seem like coming across as pushing, but just as a reminder, I have a Bliki, and I have closed off February with an End of Month Review of my progress, instead of doing a usual Diary Entry. You can find it here! Leave a comment if you like, or not, you’re your own person!

Finding a Diary Entry

Posted by Aces California on 26 February 2017 in English.

Hey all, so I’ve been going back through all the User Diaries trying to find one post but it’s eluding me. I’m asking to see if anybody could help find it?

The post in question is about how large major cities are usually around 10km away from each other, and you’ll find smaller towns and villages between them, bringing up motorway connections too I think.

Thanks in advance.

My Bliki Blog

Posted by Aces California on 6 February 2017 in English.

Hello all! I’ve just made my first Bliki Blog on the wiki today (Ohhhhh now I get the name…seriously :P It only just came to me) which should replace somewhat monthly updates on my progress everywhere, offering more opportunity for you all to comment on anything to help or just give positives ^^. February’s entries can all be found in one place! http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/User:Aces_California/Bliki/February2017

Updates might be semi-frequent…meaning anywhere between every week to every month.

January Tierjas-Verdes Update

Posted by Aces California on 18 January 2017 in English.

Hello all! It’s been a month since I’ve updated you all on where Tierajas-Verdes is, and there has been a lot of development from last update. I can’t much remember how much was done last month since there has been so much work, so I’m going to update you on everything I am sure you haven’t been updated on.

To start, following on from the responses last month on the delta of the Changori River, I got JOSM which I have been using since, and have remodeled the delta to something I feel is more realistic to what I wanted.

I’ve also changed the peninsula a small amount so it’s shorter. And the rivers of the country have been thinned…and will probably end up even thinner as I work through. A general over-view of my nation can be found below. Also to note, I have been in contact with georgecg and Oxalia about developing the Cathar Mountain range, mentioned only a few times on the wiki when talking about the Liberan Peninsula. I’ve only done the rough-massing so far.

A General Overview of Tierajas-Verdes showing changes in the Delta, Bay, Peninsula and Rivers

Moving onto Parirakbe, it is almost coming to completion in the actual area of the city, moving into the country-side and farm-land. The Metropolitan Area is still far from done, including Bhunda, Chakhat and Magara, as well as a lot of country-side.

The Overview of Parirakbe, close to completion

I’m experimenting with showing off densely packed blocks much like found in Bangladesh and India. These packed blocks would task far too much for myself and for OGF I do feel, so I’m only showing separate buildings along the main highways, while everything else that is too complicated to map are one massive blob of building. What you think of the idea?

Tierajas-Verdes Flag-carrier

Posted by Aces California on 9 January 2017 in English.

Hello! The flag-carrying airline of Tierajas-Verdes is ready to be revealed to the world, if anybody would like flights to and from my country with the airline, just comment! Jatiya Eyaraoyeja Verdese, JEV

On a separate note, Parirakbe has a functionally mapped airport that I’d like to populate with some airlines now too, flying in and out. Parirakbe International Airport

JOSM set-up help?

Posted by Aces California on 10 December 2016 in English.

Help! I’ve downloaded JOSM, and I’ve been following the OGF wiki page onto how to get JOSM to use the OpenGeofiction map, but i’ve gotten extremely confused at what to do all together? What does it mean adding the server? It was already on Selected entires, it’s not in the default entries? What’s the “Imagery” menu? Where do I input the OGF map layers. I am extremely confused :c
