Wai Tong Project is moving on, New City, New Skills,
Posted by Hilsonbergman on 18 August 2018 in English.Hi Mappers, Recently I’ve been working on the city named “Cheung Kwen O” City. As you may see in the following link, the city pretty looks like Kowloon, Hong Kong, in late 80’s. The city is not yet finished but I have to take an exam in near future so I won’t be active for a month or two. Hope will see you guys soon~ Feel free to drop some comments :)

I live in Hong Kong and I can definitely tell where the name “Cheung Kwen O” comes from. The Chinese version is even more similar. ;P
So far the town looks very realistic in comparison to Hong Kong. I especially like the boats near the dock and the detail of the military buildings.
A question I do have is how the bridged bus terminal and if Kwong Wing Street is realistic. because normally streets do not go under buildings as the land underneath the building would be reserved for the building. Kwong Wing Street isn’t any major roadway so I don’t see it being economically feasible for it to be built in the first place.
Regarding the bus terminal, the ramps may be too steep. The entrance ramp is only 20 metres long and bus terminals aren’t normally elevated above street level. I think it would be more realistic if this bus terminal was relocated to the other side of Hing Fat Back Street where there is enough space that the terminal does not need to be elevated.

Hey neighbor, just wanted to tell you how much I admire your work and even though I don’t map as often as I would like I am still working on building my country out to connect to yours. Great job on Cheung Kwen O and I really like your other cities as well! The high rise “estate” complexes look quite realistic for how I imagine Hong Kong.

Thank you for your comment, yeah I think there is a better way to put the bus stop. Kwong Wing Street is a building passage instead of a tunnel, Just like 新城市廣場and Shatin Centre Street. I think you can check the feature out by right click the road.

Thank you and I love your city too, It just recall my memory of Philadelphia, I really want to revisit the city and grad a coffee from the Cafe on 22nd Street. I used to spend my weekend there.

I see what you mean by the mall and the underground passage. However, roads are normally not under buildings for a very long section. And indeed in the New Town Plaza (新城市廣場), the Sha Tin Centre Street is only underground for a short section as seen here. The length of the road underground is partially what caused my misinterpretation of your mapping of that street.
