Hello, so my interest for OGF sparked again, but sadly is reached a blockade. I can’t seem to set up JOSM for OGF properly, the FAQ is not as much of a help either and now JOSM is complaining about proxies for some reason. So the problem is this: I have pointed JOSM to the OGF servers, but nothing seems to happen, JOSM doesnt pull data from OGF at all, and the map downloading thing as background also seemed to fail. Can someone explain me step by step how I would set up JOSM for OGF? I’d appreciate it.

Connection settings / OSM Server URL: http://opengeofiction.net/api Basic authentication… Use Validate button to check it’s all good.
Imagery layers / Imagery providers: Add a TMS entry: tms[18]:http://opengeofiction.net/osm_tiles/{zoom}/{x}/{y}.png
When downloading make sure you click the (+) icon top right and select your OGF layer.

Sadly does not work, JOSM keeps complaining about a proxy error and I have read the JOSM manual and it just doesnt seem to help at all, it tells me to add a command to JOSM or -DJava.net.useSystemProxies=true , but again, never worked with Java. I get this error when JOSM starts

Would you like to change your proxy settings now?
Really running out of options and its frustrating. I will give another try at potlach but to me it just lacks (and you can only work in such a small area, not good for coastline work and such). Its a shame that theres no real alternative program to JOSM.

Since I haven’t seen the problems you are describing before, my guess is that there is some problem with how your internet connection / ISP is configured that makes it “JOSM-unfriendly.” As such, it makes it hard for anyone else to help you solve, because it’s not, technically, as JOSM problem but something wrong with your network configuration.
Are you on a proxy for your internet connection? Do you need to be on a proxy? I sometimes use proxies, but it has always seemed logical to me that trying to use JOSM over a proxy might be a terrible idea, for whatever reason. I have never heard of someone successfully using JOSM via proxy, although I guess people do.
Another issue might be that your java isn’t installed correctly or isn’t up-to-date. JOSM sits on top of java, so having java configured correctly is the first step. When I first set up JOSM, if I recall, I had some issue with this, and solved it by uninstalling java and re-downloading and installing a fresh, up-to-date version.
I agree that the JOSM manual isn’t much help for these types of problems.

What are the proxy settings in your web browser that you are using to access this website?

Check your antivirus and security settings, as it might be blocking anything from communicating with your Pc. What are you running?

@skquinn None, so thats the whole joke of it, I dont use proxies.
@Sarepava Have put JOSM manually to my firewall exception list. I run JOSM on a Windows 10 Machine.
Maybe Java is outdated, But I am getting accustomed to iD and Potlach, I have created like 50% of a town in iD alone. I’ll go send a JOSM a ticket and maybe they can help a bit more.

I have tried, unfortunately doesn’t work- I get no errors until I try to view the imagery, in which case I get “Error: no tiles at this zoom level.”
Until I have more time to fix this, I’m going to have to leave this.
