Hey there, maybe someone could give me a quick tip how to fix this issue?
I’ve downloaded the most recent OGF-backup, and cropped it with osmconvert to make some edits to Kojo’s railway network. So as usual I selected “13b”, to convert to .osm and keep ways and areas that go across the cropped area. When I opened the resulting file in JOSM however, it only showed point; ways and areas inside the selected area weren’t shown, however ways that DID go across the border for some reason showed up, see first picture:
As you can see the filter in JOSM is turned off. To test whether the problem might have been related to osmconvert, I directly exported a small area from the OGF map. When opening that chunk of data in JOSM, I get the result you can see in the second picture above. Ways etc. are shown, however they all look the same and are indistinguishable from another.
It might be important to mention that I use a new PC, and therefore had to install all tools mentioned above anew. Anyone who know what the issue is, and how I can resolve it? Thank you in advance :)

Today’s backup file was definitely defective. You can generally tell if the backup as some problem by examining the size - the size should be the same or bigger than earlier backups - if it is smaller, something probably went wrong. It happens sometimes, in which case you can’t use that day’s backup (e.g. today’s backup was 137MB, while yesterdays was 162MB - even if someone deleted their country, the file would still grow, because it contains changeset information).
As far as what happened with a direct export, I’m not sure about that - I haven’t been having much success with that method lately, although the error I get is just a hang, which I generally assume is an internet problem rather than an OGF problem. However, I have been doing edits with JOSM with direct download from OGF (using bookmarks in JOSM), without problems, since the downtime earlier.

Ahh well, I guess that explains why only points are shown; I’ll just wait until tomorrow then :) The issue with the direct export is related to how JOSM visualizes the ways etc. I think; do you know of any setting that change how JOSM renders the data on your PC? Because the data from the direct export itself seems fine, the ways’ tags are shown correctly.

I think you’re just talking about issues with the visual style in JOSM. There are ways to change it to a “Potlatch” style view or customize it however you want - try E)dit P)Preferences, third tab down on the left side (Map settings), second tab across the top (Map Paint Styles). Maybe this helps?

I regularly work from the backups and can tell you from experience that we are averaging a defective backup about every third or fourth day. For a while, every other day had something wrong with it; sometimes a lot of ways are missing, other times nodes have no tags when they should, other times there may well have been other problems I didn’t notice because they weren’t as widespread or obvious.
