Phoenix - Project cancelled

Posted by Mapping Expert on 2 February 2020 in English (English)

Hello to all users.

In the first instance, I want to apologize to the admins for causing a break in the rules and violations of the code of the blue countries.

Second, I wanted to declare that the project is temporarily suspended and that everyone is asked to reverse its editions (and possibly those of the others).

I must declare that I presented this proposal with the sole purpose of switching to Phoenix, and doing a good work for OGF. But, now I have caused a lot of work to the admins and I feel a great discouragement.

For now, I will be working in my territory. I'm not sure it's coming for me, but I'll keep a low profile.

It is disappointing that so far the editing has largely been deletion, before leaving any room for consensus to be reached. Items have been deleted which could have certainly been moved, resized or incorporated.

Plan, before the demolition.

And https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Blue_country_etiquette is crucial to any sort of project in free to edit territories.

Hi.

For a long time, most of the community has been concerned about the little realism in Mecyna. A previous user diary (I think of Zhenkang) talked about ideas to solve this problem.

I presented this proposal (never with the intention of becoming a coordinator) having a great concern with the subject. Many people agreed to erase the unrealistic areas of the city and remake it. So far a proposal has been submitted (which will probably be followed, since there is no other); where it is stated that the center must be reduced, so it was removed to remake.

Also (without offending) the opinion of the regional admin was requested, but no response was obtained in time. We hoped that this would help mappers have an example, not what we lacked the label of blue countries.

Now, given the circumstances, I believe that the planned will continue and a coordinator will be sought. It all depends on the opinion of wangi.

Thank you for your support of my proposal.

I do not appreciate blatant lies: "Also (without offending) the opinion of the regional admin was requested, but no response was obtained in time"

The truth is that I asked if admin approval was needed, but they said it would not be necessary. That was to say, I didn't want to offend him.

Which is of course not what you said. Asking on a user diary post (which I only read today) if you might need to talk to the admins is completely different to "the opinion of the regional admin was requested, but no response was obtained in time".

And you seem utterly oblivious to the fact you are talking to the actual person right now. And doing a good job of annoying them.

I do not know what to say for apologize. I had no intention of disturbing anyone, in fact it would be appropriate to delete this entry, although that will not change anything I said.

I am very sorry to have offended you, it was a comment too out of tune. I understand if you want to suspend me for a foul like that. Bye.

Was it really necessary to be in such a hurry? There are so many projects which don't show any progress in years where in others they can't wait from twelve to lunch. Doesn't seem to be a middle way?

I was just thinking about how I would like to see the city or what I could do. I would probably have started in the city center and have worked outwards, leaving the old stuff at least as inspiration for reworking and as a reason to break the grid.

But now you have blank space again and - no question - there will be a dull rectangular pattern in the future...

@Toadwart Honestly, I'm not sure if this is my fault or that of everyone interested in the project. In less than 3 days almost the entire city has been erased (and I have been part of this) and the old city has begun to be built, although the general plan has not been approved.

I think that this hurry excited me too much in a project that I rushed into, and after receiving a disappointment, I exploded and said things that I didn't owe to people who don't deserve that.

Now I regret my opinions and decisions, but the project is still going on and I cannot change what I did.

We will see if those who are participating (including me) first choose to choose the general plan before continuing to map - which was the original purpose of this newspaper.

These days have been very rushed for me, and I think I need a break.

Happy mapping - Mapping Expert

Sorry for commenting here, but I do not have a wiki account yet, so I was thinking of keeping motorway W and C, and making the dave mecyna motorway into a beltway going around. To see what I mean, look at the dark red in this picture I made. https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1QxFWUDMu7XH6qQf4cgD9IoxiktxVf9hUlVolHzGamME/edit?usp=sharing

That's basically what was there before, I don't know if we want the same thing, but a beltway could be a good idea. On a side note @newnw, why did you delete the old city, as there was nothing wrong my work, and it was going to be incorporated into the new plan?

Absolutely beyond parody. You're all so on fire about deleting stuff, before any agreement being reached, that new content is also being deleted.

You all need to read and really understand this: https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Blue_country_etiquette

At the very least I would expect users to take a sampling of the ways they are editing/deleting and check the history of them. If they are recent then you should be reaching out to the user, not just deleting.

As a blue territory most editors in Mecyna will not have a wiki account, and will not be getting one to just take part in this. So coordination should be led on the User Diaries.

Hello again.

The overall design of the project has not yet been decided, and we cannot begin to eliminate things randomly until we have a clear idea of what is going to be done.

Therefore, I ask (not as a coordinator, but as a project participant) to stop the excessive elimination of the city until it has a clear design. We do not want this to go away from the main focus, which is to help improve the image of Phoenix and thus set the example for new users. The purpose of this is not to violate the rules.

For all this, I ask that the regional admin (wangi) give us the guidelines on how to do this project. We do not want to have problems doing this, so we must do it well.

After having a general design, the next step will be to make the necessary adjustments in the territory. A coordinator will also be chosen to help you do this well.

Thanks for your understanding.

Common sense:

  1. Don't do anything which results in extra work for the admins
  2. Respect Blue country etiquette
  3. Fully include users without wiki access - it is a blue territory after all
  4. Discuss before action; do not rush
  5. Know the existing OGF rules & guidelines, respect them

I think the original mapping should be restored, a plan agreed before any further changes.

I will not be appointing a coordinator, this is an unofficial project.

I managed to recover the status of the city before the deletions, plus the few quality of life changes made in the city center.

This should stay like this unless someone comes up with a worthwhile master plan for the city.

Please don't delete the city for the sake of "cleanup".

So, no one can edit in the city, then?

As wangi said in the post before mine, preserve Blue country etiquette while editing in blue territories.

Massive deletes for the sake of deleteing and not giving something new in its place are not the way to go.

But, also from blue country etiquette: "Lower quality mapping should be respected while the user is actively working on it, but may be reworked or deleted once they have moved on to their own territory." It is clear that the outskirts of Phoenix (excluding Kazoon) are in a state of extremely low quality mapping that shouldn't stay the way it is for much longer. I hope a new plan can be put in place that rectifies these issues.

Honestly i hope we can remake pheonix, but instead we do it in phases to avoid anything like this so if one thing is low-quality we remake it and move on. If this project were to be continued, i feel that would be the best way to take it on

I'm making a new plan for phoenix and I hope that it will avoid the problems that happened before. I'll post it soon.

I think you should coordinate to create:

  • Map identifying areas and editors who have edited locally within the last few months
  • Map identifying areas to: keep, rework, replace (note replace doesn't mean completely razing the map - naming and ways can still be reused)

This should be pasted to a new user diaries thread, making sure to notify all the recent users.

  • A new plan can then be developed

Or, just leave it be.
