Complicated Interchange I made

Posted by Pancake Killer on 28 July 2017 in English (English)

Ok, so I do a few strange interchanges in Arlington, but they are all efficient (at least from what I can tell).

This one connects not 3, 4 highways (AR F 3, AR F 7, DO 1 and AR 3).

Any suggestions for this?

Location: Arlington Freeway 7, Powhatan, Deniro, Arlington

The question is, why? None of these motorways goes anywhere, and what is the sense of two parallel highways a kilometer apart? Nobody would ever need to go from DO1 eastbound onto ARF3 westbound or vice versa unless they wanted to drive in circles. There are a dozen other redundant ramps due to the unrealistic mania for highways here. The entire area could be simplified to one east-west highway and one border crossing at the end of ARF7, simplifying the interchange to a standard cloverleaf.

On the other hand, I can't wait for oil to run out so I can take my fixie and have some fun on the abandoned ramps.

In context, the country's motorways look quite moderate compared to neighbouring Susquehanna, which appears to be ruled by a highway-fetishist dictator who chucked a pile of red string on a map and ordered his apparatchiks to make it happen.

AR F 3 is meant to basically meant to be connected to the lower part of Arlington from the border.

DO 1 is meant to connect to Fuquay Island and the north coastline, as well as the AR F 2 border with Susquehanna.

AR F 7/AR F 8 are meant to go down the center of the country so you don't have to take the 2 busiest highways in the country which are AR F 1 and AR F 2 (yes I'm American, I just call mine highway because that's what I'm used to).

tl;dr it's for traffic e/w and n/s

I would make the highways more interesting by adding tunnels

Because this Arlington is based on central/eastern NC theme, and North Carolina is extremely flat, which makes it unlikely for tunnels (only in some parts if I think of it right)

Your nationwide motorway system needs rationalisation. Firstly every motorway that is east of the F7 from the northern border to the F8, and the F8 to the F5 and then north of the F5, all of these motorways need to be downgraded to either highways or primary roads because there are too many of them. The F202 and CV3 should be deleted. The F5 west of the AR3 should be downgraded to a primary road. The F7 between the F8 and F4 should be deleted. The F4's western end should be near International City and the remains the western remains should be downgraded to a primary road. Island City doesn't need a Motorway. F10 north of the F5 should be deleted as it is to close to F8. The Iklande bypass should also be deleted for the time being as Iklande doesn't exist. Then what is left of F7, F8, F10 should be merged into one highway with some realignment and one code maybe F2 but idk.

This is just my opinion on what you should do feel free to disagree.

Indeed too many motorways. Delete all down to 10 %, It seemed, that you have more cars in your country on the motorways as poeple in houses.

Haven't plopped down the house areas, as I generally plop down the roads first.

I will eventually do that though, thanks for reminding me.

The wiki generally advises people to plan out topography, then rivers, then the population centers, and then finally the roads. This is because countries tend to look unrealistic when the topography and population are created to match an arbitrary road layout.

No point in erasing what you've already done, though, so just try to keep the population/mountains/rivers realistic and it'll be good :)

So you have no old alignments that were changed to the new alignments? You should plan out logical routing in the past and then chew them up with your development to look more realistic.

On another note North Carolina has gone crazy with motorways and specifically Interstate Highway designations.

No Way:

Yeah, I've been complaining about NCDOT for a while now. I have a few friends in Charlotte that think it's fine, it's terrible though.

Generally I plan out my highways, but since I don't know exactly where I'll end up, I go way off course and never find a way to get it back on the track I expected without having to delete too many interchanges and stuff.

dryerlint:

The roads are really my priority, because how would you logically get someone from a place like Powhatan in my country for Cleveland? It's something I generally like, since I consider myself a roadgeek and I just want roads running throughout my country. The only topography would be places like Infinite Lake and Falt Forrest, because I am having mainly plains running through Iklande, Yanlik and Deniro.
