Hey everyone,
It’s been over a year since I posted a diary entry so I figured I’d let people know what I’ve been up to. I just finished Patriotland International Airport. Is the airport missing anything? This is my first attempt at mapping an airport!
In addition, I’ve been working on some harbor towns such as Port Perrine and Gundock. Both of these towns are inspired by older suburbs of Philadelphia, PA in South Jersey along the Delaware river. The block style is typical of this area, and implies thin, deep row homes with alleys behind them. The shore of Patriot Harbor is quite working class, situated near a lot of industrial sites.
Here are the long-term plans for my territory.
I would be interested to hear what you all think of my work so far, good or bad. I have so much more planned in my head, it just takes years to get it all mapped correctly. I map differently than most people, focusing on one small area at a time.

I really like the airport. As an IRL pilot I think it’s really solid and realistic stuff - much respect. The thing I think you should consider is the length of your smaller, east-west runway. The largest aircraft you would be able to operate out of that is a regional jet (the smallest commercial aircraft type). That said, not every city needs 2 big runways, so it’s just something to be aware of. Otherwise, again, really good stuff.

I applaud your mapping style, working on a (relatively) small area until it’s nearly finished (looking) and then moving on. You may not have mapped much, but what you mapped looks immensely good. Your borders between urban and rural areas lok magnificent, an inspiration to me.
I wonder why you don’t map in the FSA - or did you start too early ? Your mapping would be a great addition to our efforts.

I agree that there is a lot here to like. I think you’re off to a great start. I’d also like to echo Marcello: have you considered joining the FSA efforts? You would be a great addition to it.
My biggest critique that I have is interchange size and geometry. This is especially noticeable between the motorway segments and the surface streets. I’d suggest looking just a little more at the scale of the interchanges and consider what the curve radius is.
Otherwise, you’re off to a great start!

@Jamie Clumpas: Thank you! The airport is intentionally on the smaller side because the metro area’s population is only around 2 million. I think one runway capable of handling jets and one for small regional jets is plausible. This is also why the airport only has one passenger terminal, no separation of arrivals and departures, etc.

@Marcello: I’ve been working on all of this since 2015, and I don’t think I could handle another project like a big state. That being said, if someone envisioned a small project for me such as a neighborhood or small rural area, I’d happily map it in the FSA. Message me privately about that. Thank you!
Alessa: I agree, when I was beginning to map my territory I started with Center City. I was not familiar with JOSM and didn’t really know what I was doing. As a result, my city’s main area looks terrible (in my opinion). I don’t know what I should do about it, it would take a very long time to redo the city center. That’s a project I might take on if enough people encourage me. I will definitely pay attention to my interchange size.

What I can say is that the city has expanded since I last saw it, and I can still remember I commented on where the airport should be.
You should really consider taking a break and go to FSA, take a collab project there.
Overall I like the progress so far, just that I do not like to see empty spaces of land just outside the city. Patriot City residents be like…
‘Let’s have some fun out in the city!’ (Looks beyond the city border and sees nothing. Road ends abruptly). ‘Well, at least the children have space to run.’
