Stanton Partial Redo

Posted by yoyo21 on 20 March 2021 in English (English).

Attention new users: as the OGF wiki isn’t working, please read here for important site information. Thank you!!

Hello OGF community,

As FSA coordinator and a New Carnaby state coordinator, I am pleased to announce that Stanton is going to be improved upon. Me and several other members of the FSA community thought it would be best if Stanton had a more unique and creative design rather than the current one. We are currently planning for it to be based on this sketch from Toadwart for the waterways and coastline, and changes following that will be done on a more neighborhood by neighborhood basis.

If anyone has any suggestions for the project or wants to participate, feel free to reply here or send me a message.

I’ll be happy to help out with neighborhood detailing once things get rolling!

You’d figure the different counties would have to be rearranged with the new hydrology, too.

This is a great idea. I’d be happy to work on neighborhoods, as well!

As the owner of New Colsex County, i’ve been waiting for a while for Southside to get filled up as I want the northern county development to flow organically from the city into the suburb. Love that progress is being made on the city.

Portopolis, I overheard CharlieG was going to start work on Weybirton County soon- he claimed it a while back. I feel like mapping Ox Island could be really fun once things get rolling.

You are funny people. There is so many empty space, but you have to do nothing else as playing with what soon is mapped? I hope, you did not lost your energy after the start.

If you no longer want to develop the mapping yourself then that’s the way things might go. It’s a community project and therefore in a difficult situation. Many people put the expectation into Stanton to be the showcase city of the FSA or even OGF. Things did not develop that way. It is one thing to reflect why it did not take up momentum in such a way many expected. Maybe the expectations were wrong, maybe something else.

In the current situation, the FSA community came to the conclusion that it isn’t the showcase city but it should be. We could have come up with other solutions, like leaving Stanton as it is and create a new showcase city under other circumstances and with other expectations. But we agreed there should not be an alternative showcase city and Stanton should be revitalized. Unfortunately the NYC-cloniness of the city brought us to our limits. Therefore we tried to find a way to keep as much as possible by un-NYC-ing it.

And yes, we want to fill the empty space. Like downtown, which now has a number of streets and subways and very few buildings. But for revitalizing it, we need to take a holistic approach and that means revamping the roads and rails. They were fine for being built withing a few weeks, but now it would be time for detailing them. The arbitrary straight lines were fine for the initial approach, but now we need it a bit more adaptated to the geography and history.

And, I must say, calling us “funny people” is quite a questionable approach.

As the FSA-project started some years ago, Stanton should be in a “new-yorkish” style and mostly BMSOUZA and I design it so. Other FSA-towns are designed in “chicagoish” style - and nobody has a problem with this.

O.k. - if now a lot of people mean, it is necessary to change the trim of the town, it is not more my problem. Future will show us, if you design a better showcase. Good luck.

Is it not funny, to change what is - instedad of making some new things? There is so many white space in the FSA, blind endings of rails, motorways and roads - worth of work in first line.

And - at last - not only one time in the past I ask for devellopers for Stanton and New Carnaby and only few user will be engaged. So then now you can be happy, that a lot of people will dig in the area of Stanton.
