National Days in OGF?

Posted by zhenkang on 9 August 2017 in English (English)

Hello guys. Today's is the 52nd year of independence in Singapore- 9 August, the day Malaysia expelled Singapore and we are independent, like unexpectedly. My nation is commemorating the event through a National Day Parade, to read more see here.

I want to ask, in your countries, do you all celebrate national day, or some national event like 'Democracy day', Freedom day'. 'King's xx Birthday' etc.? Write down those dates below!

How does your country celebrate that event? Is it like a parade in front of a palace, or something else? Are there performances? Besides that, what does your country do leading up to the event?

In Singkangia, two days were celebrated: 'Republic Day' and 'Freedom day'. Republic Day was celebrated since the fall of the Singkangian Nationalists and the start of being a 'socialist republic' on 13 June, while 'Freedom Day' marks the end of communist rule in Singkangia on 31 August. I still have not set up a venue for such events, maybe that will be part of my next stage of mapping my main city in Singkangia.

I will also like to see the locations where these celebrations took place.

Wow, I have never thought of national days on OGF! Thanks for pointing this out! I think we could create some sort of calendar on the wiki, where everyone could add his nation's celebration days.

Karolia celebrates Unification Day on the 13th December, marking the date of the treaty that joined all 21 states into a complete federation. The President will make a speech and the day is a public holiday (or if it falls on a weekend, the nearest weekday) on which families may get together. But in general this isn't celebrated as widely as the Juuoli winter holiday a few weeks later, and Karolians don't tend to make enthusiastic patriotic displays in public anyway.

For Shilesia that would definetely be the commemoration of the internal revolt that took place in the Galician military stationing in Vinnish land conquered by them and Welstand-Westrijk. Revolting soldiers have founded Shilesia. Date still needs to be decided on, but it will be somewhere in the second half of the XIX century. There might be some Independence marches, and Shilesian (as well as a few Welsish, as Vinnmark vs Welstand-Westrijk war was the reason for Shilesia to appear on the map) flags on display.

29th of November is celebrated Glaster as some kind of Victory Day, marking the end of Commonian influence and the Glastian Civil War in 1947. The event is marked by the government and authorities but not extensively celebrated by the public. The holiday has regularly been used as an excuse for the government to increase national propoganda and to boost patriotism.

Glastian Unification Day is the main national day for Glaster, marking the unification of North and South Glaster in 1979. It is a national holiday and Glastian parades and festivals are organised to mark the occasion. Again, the government have been accused of using this day as a propoganda event.

Belphenia celebrates Liberation Day on April 19th of each year, marking the date where former Belphenian dictator Sasuke Volkman was overthrown by many Belphenians and its military forces in 2011.

Belphenia also has a national mourning day on May 1st of each year marking the date to remember the samurai and pirates, and victims of the Battle of Shirahoshi in 2011. It is also a national holiday and memorial services are organized by the Belphenian government, the Guilds of Belphenia (the Belphenian samurai and pirates), and the governing body of Great Heart.

Tircambry's national day would have to be 18th July, the date of the Treaty of Caerfeillion in 1748 which followed the third War of Unification and united the four former Cambric realms into a single kingdom.

I haven't thought yet about how it would be celebrated.

In Balonis, May, 26 is celebrated as Independence Day. On that day in 1823 the country became independent from Castellan. I created a wiki page about it once, which has more information, including how it is celebrated.
