Like the Asian Continent Point here, I have added continent points for Uletha and Archanta. Can someone else do the same for Antarephia and Tarephia?
Anyone else can also add tags for multilingual names at these points like the Asia Continent point with translations of Asia in Arabic, Chinese etc.

How did you calculate the exact centers of the continents? Or did you just take some random points?

I don’t even understand what the point of having a “continent point” is.
Is it supposed to render, on low zooms? I don’t think real-world OSM works that way. So it’s just an invisible dot on the map with no purpose? I’m all for invisible things on the map, but no need to announce, them, then.
Anyway, your links are strange - did you grab them from iD edit mode? That’s not a good way to share map links. Even your OSM link is like that - since I don’t edit on OSM, that means I have to manually edit the URL to see what you’re talking about.

It is rather random, but it is quite Centre and Mecyna seems like a good choice. I added them in blue contries for less trouble.

@Luciano I am thinking of how when someone searches Archanta or Uletha then the whole continent shows up, instead of on low zooms. The OSM is something like what you’ve stated. I think relations could be done or something to make the whole Archana show up when someone searches Archanta.

The concept is good. The problem with these points is that when searching them, they jump straight to zoom 19, which is not convenient in any way. Could this not be done by adding a place=continent tag to a multipolygon relation including the entire continent landmass and islands? This way it will function the same way as a border (which also would not work if it just jumps to a random point in the center in zoom level 19).

Never mind, it’s not possible to add this tag to a relation. Which (imho) means the nodes are kind of useless for searching anything.

@PortCal - in fact long ago (2 years?) I experimented with creating continent relations. At that time, I was trying to develop better methods for detecting and preventing “floods”. However, the problem with continent relations is that when you have them, any time you update a single bit of coastline, the re-render (map update) has to update the relation, which places a HUGE drag on the server performance as it has to include all the members across vast portions of the map. Arguably this is bad design on the software side, but anyway this is beyond our control since we use OSM “out of the box” for the most part. So we’re stuck with it, and continent relations are a very bad idea.

Indeed; continent relations suck. Plus for more on the utility of continent nodes you just have to look at OSM and the inconsistency between “7 continents” in the description and then both Oceania and Australia getting tags, and then folk variously not noticing or getting het up…
What’s the use-case for somebody searching “Archanta” on the map - would they no do that on the wiki?
