First off, actually how is a nuclear weapon base designed? What do you think a nuclear base should have? Because I have plans to create sites for nuclear testing for the Pretanic Faction State (the name will be changed soon), but so far I have seen a barely mapped nuclear site from North Korea: osm.org/#map=14/41.2264/129.1105. Is it because all nuclear sites are underground?
Anyway, does your nation have ever possessed nuclear weapons, or at least have ambitions to possess some and hence created such test sites? Or let’s reduce to a milder level: Does your country also do nuclear power? Show some of the nuclear power plans/ test sites if necessary.
I am not going into further details about Antigo’s nuclear weapons programme, without any consensus yet from bhj867.

Does Pasalia own nuclear weapons? Yes it does, but only a couple. Scalewise like apartheid-era South Africa used to. ( I believe they had 6 IIRC). I ,,mapped’’ a test site in the country but realised that maybe location wise its not the best location. So probably they wouldve done a test or two in the Asperic Ocean somewhere or maybe in another large allied country. The UK used Australia for its tests, France used Algeria.
Does it use nuclear power? Yes! One of the worlds major users of it even! Relying on it even more than france does in the real world. Not yet extensively mapped tho either. I could imagine 3,4 or 5 locations across the country.
How should a base be designed? Well it certainly doesnt have large flashing signs. Usually its either part of a regular large base, or missile silos in the middle of nowhere. So a couple silos and then just crew buildings. Certainly nothing that draws attention.
That aside: Do we know which countries use these? IRL its only US,UK, France, Russia, China, Pakistan, North Korea, cough Israel too caugh. So we dont want to end up with 30 nuclear powers, even if that would be possible.

Oh and test sites: Large spot of empty-ness. Some desert or remote island which were uninhabitated or only had small native populations who could be forced to relocate. Nothing really to map except dirt roads or abandoned towns, maybe a small visitor site. I know one of the large testing areas in the US can be visited by small groups if you sign up early enough. They left the ruined test buildings, flipped over cars, etc. there.

Will a country allow, to map nuclear military area in all details? I think no. So it is sayed, Latina has nuclear weapons - but you will find no details at the OGF-map.

Suya Ahn has zero. The country was formed after a long civil war and has a tradition of official pacifism. Nuclear weapons and their development are expressly forbidden in the Constitution.
As for nuclear power, I haven’t designed any nuclear plants and would be very interested to see what they’d look like. But Suya Ahn relies pretty heavily on hydropower so it may be a non-issue.

Ncadezaz has no nukes. Its military is only really naval and the nation is pacifistic in general.

Also, while the nation is researching and considering them, the state considers nuclear plants to be too short lasting to be of much good on the islands. There are also concerns as to the placement of nuclear waste from the plants and the land area that will have to be sacrificed.

@kingfries. At least thanks for some tips. Yeah it shouldnt be too noticeable, but hell… the world has managed to discover one of our nuclear sites…

Demirhanlı Devleti is supposed to have nukes althoulgh nuclear test range is not mapped yet. Also they want to keep it as a secret as long as possible so I would second Histor here and not map it in high detail. The fragment of the story behind the nukes is mentioned in the article about Eyalet of Alaklareli.
Other possible nuclear powers include probably UL137, Suria and this strange blob of UL099 if it remain unchanged. as well as some nations in Western hemisphere. Ah, we can also read betweeen the lines that Pretany has nukes.
In rerms of nukes OGF world seems to be potentially much more armed than our own but it is natural in such a polycentric world.

@Rustem I think we can collaborate together to build a nuclear site in Antigo. What are the chances Antigo will trade nuke secrets with Demirhanlı Devleti?
I may rule out UL099 to have nukes, after all I expect it to be some OGF Canada/Inuit/Alaska area, and not a superpower given the climate.

As to be expected, Freedemia is pacifist and thus does not have nukes. Lots of nuclear power plants though.

@zhenkang I see the cooperation as possible but it depends on several things. First is that it depends on the fact if I finally get permission to move to UL114. If not the cooperation is rather impossible due to distance between the countries. Second depends on Bhj if he accepts the vision of regional politics which I imagined once but by now it’s too early to talk about that. Anyway I can help with nuclear facilities in Antigo.
UL099 reminds me Russia (a big cold country in the north) that’s why I initially said it can have nukes. But even Russia has some warmer parts which are absent here which makes the UL099 significantly less populated and therefore weaker. But it depends on the final outlook Ii think.

The nuclear facilities are stationed in a large army base in Antigo. I will actually split up the area in time, but I busy doing the parts of Central Antigo.
I have also some ideas for regional politics, mainly the fact that Suria is an ally, Pretany, Inara and UL137 are bittersweet enemies and possibly other nations to consider.

Karolia has nuclear power, but no nuclear weapons. It’s a very peaceful country and even the suggestion of acquiring nukes would be political suicide. The building of nuclear power plants has been controversial due to the relatively strong Green party who have been part of most left and centre-left governments. In fact power generation has been quite a big political issue on Karolia since the gradual move to renewables has also caused environmental controversy over the building of dams and tidal barrages.

I’m still waiting for the territory request to be approved, but Oscadia will use nuclear power. Even though the bulk of the nation’s energy production is geothermal and natural gas, nuclear will account for around 20% of the energy production.

I think that on a map neither of these facilities would look different from a normal military base or another type of power plant, respectively.
For a powerplant in my country Bärland I am planning to map reactor buildings, turbine hall and cooling towers. But I guess a power plant burning natural gas would look almost the same on a map

How are most of the aforementioned countries able to build nuclear power plants or even nuclear weapons if they don’t possess a significant amount of industry, education and research and many other civil facilities (on the map!)?
They won’t be able!
In addition, small countries (>98% in OGF) won’t be able to produce nuclear weapons by themselves, they might be able to buy power plants from somewhere else, but there’s no market for nuclear weapons.
Since you’ve already spent 120% of your budget to build motorways and other main roads… there’s no mony left!
So I’m sorry, but I see absolutely no relevance in this discussion. What we need is rather education, health care and cultural institutions than a nuclear weapon programme. Nuclear weapons and other unreal gimmicks are ignored by me and hopefully all others as well.

I 90% agree, mstr. I agree that nuclear weapons don’t really make sense beyond like the Federal States, especially on a project that focuses largely around mapping- what country in their right mind lets people map their nuclear weapons facilities?
Though, I feel like nuclear power is a bit more of a different situation, considering it’s still one of the most accessible ways for a country to transition quickly away from coal and oil to renewables since a complete instantaneous switch is practically impossible. But that being said, I haven’t mapped any nuclear power plants in Freedemia (or any power plants in Freedemia for that matter) yet because I had more important things to map. But I do think that Freedemia at least has a lot of education and research facilities mapped with more to come, as it in its newest form is more of a city state than a small rural country with a focus in things like education, research, and technological development, so it would be at least more justifiable in comparison to some of the more Commonia-esque “second world” countries.
That being said, OGF is first and foremost a mapping project. If it’s not something that can or should be mapped in detail, it doesn’t need to be at the forefront. Nuclear weapons isn’t something that makes any sense as a focus, and 95% of countries probably wouldn’t have them anyway just because of the relative lack of superpowers.

I just asked this because the nation of Antigo has a nuclear weapons programme, and I also wondered for other nations in OGF. I am going to do some works on Antigo’s military in the new future.
That being said, I know small nations cannot have the resources to get nuclear power/nukes. (There is a possibility that Antigo is a market buyer/seller of the weapons)
Poor nations actually can possess nukes. Even Antigo, with 80% of its population in abject poverty, can still invest in nukes. This is what NK also do anyways.

While, Hoppon is a democratic country today, it has a long history of military aggression, and i’m actually working on converting Lallemand in the future into a former/current colony of Hoppon. Hoppon would not have the facilities, money or support for Nuclear Weapons but it certainly wouldn’t be against the development of nuclear weapons. Hoppon’s goals while less violent than the military era of government is to control Hoppon’s sphere of influence which would include Lallemand, and likely deals with Suvuma who is currently??? persecuting some of it’s inhabitants, I imagine if the admin let me, Hoppon would likely have small islands around the Central Ocean were failed nuclear testing could have been located as a remnant from the military era.
