I just wanted to say that I’m not dead yet - Litvania is still my country and I will continue developing it in the future, I’m just kinda busy with school and other things I’m pursuing, OGF currently isn’t one of those.

I hope you’re all doing well. I see my area has some new people around, and I welcome you, my name is Michal, I’m Polish and I own Litvania. You know, that annoying blob that has stayed the same for the past few months. Yeah, that’s it, that’s my country.

So yeah, just a quick update and I hope to be back soon.

I want to work on a nice looking contour map like https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/File:Topographical_map_of_Drabantia.png But I’m not sure if there’s a way to import the outline of my country into Inkscape from JOSM or I should trace it. Does anyone have experience with this?

Since no one has posted a monthly challenge until now, I’ll just post one. This month’s theme is local railways and Interurbans.

This month’s task is to build railways connecting suburban or rural communities to the rail network. Due to cost issues, these railways often have very simple infrastructure, they’re often single-track, have tight corners, run on streets or are built to a narrower rail gauge or structure gauge. They are usually built for passenger service, even though a few of them have freight service. They are usually electrified using some low-voltage DC standard, such as 600 V DC.

Real World examples for local railways or interurbans include: * South Shore Line * Vienna local railway * Attersee Railway * Halle-Bad Dürrenberg Railway

Is it me or does the search bar not work on newly added territories. And yes it contains territories new from months ago. For example try to search up Federal States on there. And poof!

I’ve continued to work on Lafort. I took some advice I got a few months ago, and I’m looking for some more. There’s a lot that’s incomplete, but one of my big problems is making my roads interesting. Especially in the northern parts of the city, they become kind of boring. What can I do to make my city better? Thanks!

Hello! I’m balthier4321, I’ve recently rejoined OpenGeofiction after a roughly 1 year hiatus. Unfortunately I had to leave OGF shortly after joining due to vision related medical issues, but now things have stabilized and I’m ready to get back at it.

Over that time I have been working on an anthology of short stories set in the fictional country of Oscadia detailing the rise and fall of governments, some peaceful transitions and some not over the nation’s history. And after looking for programs and communities dedicated to mapping fictional countries I ended up finding this place again.

I’m looking forward to finally getting all the locations and cities that I’ve been dreaming up for the past months down in a more… easy to understand format than just crudely drawn maps on notebook paper. My request for territory is still pending, but once that is done I can’t wait to show you all!

Just wondering what are the typical dimensions of a ‘block’? I am planning on starting inland first, so a typical Midwest state town block…. My town is bordering another town, so I think this would be easier for me to start mapping.

Through the last six months I’ve redeveloped Ellmouth, a British based city and the first city I mapped in Glaster around 3 years ago. A bit of zooming out is required, as the city is at the awkward stage of being too big or too small to appropriately fit a scale level.

I still need to finish mapping Ellmouth’s centre in high detail, and somehow map the large scale of countryside around Ellmouth. I’m a bit hesitant to begin that proper, however. I am able to map rural environments effectively but the vast scale and having no place to start and finish at is a major deterrent for me. Any tips?

If anything looks out of place or illogical, that means it’s probably still in the development process. Particularly in central Ellmouth mapping is subject to change, but don’t be hesitant to point things out!

It really is better to do ALL the geography layouts before doing the actual cities/roads etc. Currently trying to figure out why X is in A instead of B even if actually B would be more logical in Hindsight. Jeez…

Here’s the thing.

OpenGeoFiction has always been a really interesting idea to me. Collaborating with other people to essentially create a fictional Earth is such a cool thing to do, in my opinion. But, some of you may know that I have, multiple times, started mapping, lost interest, and come back again. I have just recently gained interest again, but I don’t want to go through this cycle again. I think I have identified the main reasons why I keep losing interest:

1. I don’t have a lot of free time to do this, and sometimes I just don’t feel like mapping. I think I need to just accept that maybe I won’t make edits for a little while, instead of simply giving up and saying, “well, OGF must just not be for me.”

2. I need to find the things that interest me. I found myself, the last few times, getting quite bored at doing monotonous things that I feel like must be addressed before moving on, when they really might not.

3. I need to be okay with not being perfect. No real city is exactly perfect, and neither should an OGF city be. Of course, this should be within reason, it shouldn’t just be stuff thrown around, but it doesn’t have to be this perfect, symmetrical grid. Speaking of grids…

4. I think I have a problem with grids specifically. I live in the US, so grids kind of come naturally to me. I feel that they have to be perfectly aligned and spaced, because my thought is “well, in real life, if they had a grid, it would be perfect!” I think I should just choose to avoid grids altogether for the most part.

I think also having some sort of goal in my head for what the final city should look like would help.

So, most of that up there was mainly written for me, but I would like to ask the rest of you of your thoughts. How do you keep yourself interested? How do you overcome perfectionism?

Today, my computer just prompt me with a message like this one:

Then a GRUB4DOS shit prompted and showed a bunch of options of Windows SLI complete mode, default mode, etc. And a command line

Then i try to boot them all with no success, then tried to run the GRUB comand line and tried to figure it out, also with no success.

Anyone who knows how to fix it, tell me please.

In my day job, I work in the civil engineering field (specifically residential and commercial site development).

I have been floating an idea in my head to create a basic how-to on site development and I am curious to know how many of you would be interested in something like this.

The entire site lets you pick a territory and write about it. It’s basically PlanetWorkShop, a site owned by ConWorkShop. You can add your languages there and stuff. They let you make like unlimited countries but they will automatically not be on the global map.

Wassup everyone,

Hope you all are having a great day so far. Anyways, I’ve mapped about 20% of the map in Aidlenaide and I’ve gotten better in mapping, since I started training in the free territories. I believe i’ve gotten way better.

Anyways I still think I have small weaknesses, so I hope you guys can help me with my mapping, give a bit of suggestions and examples which I could use to modify my territory and civilizations better.

And whoever suggested JOSM to me thank you so much, it’s way better when creating really big features. I love it!
