Hi mappers! I’ve been working on the immersive zoo of Edetanea (https://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/-16.33997/129.90213), the Biopark and I’m happy to see it almost finished. Tomorrow I’ll map two restaurants and complete some related places. It would be great to know which natural features and animals are typical of your countries, how are they habitats, and so on. Thank you and happy mapping!

Hello!

Long time no see, so I have a problem, namely a problem with how stuff appears, check out for yourself

https://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/63.15464/47.52682 On the normal render, you can’t see the ‘zeegracht’ or the island in the middle of the of the lake, but change to topomap or histor, and you can.

I have tried everything that I know of, but I really don’t see what’s causing it, so is there someone out there who can help me fix this issue?

Hi everyone!

In this essay, I’ll be trying explain to you, what will I do and my goals.

Firstly, I need to finish geographical things and arrangements about it, before constructing cities, special zones(industrial, mining or ports etc.) and roads. Unless I can do them, I can’t construct cities. You may sure that, my country’s geografy will be so good and amazing, At least I hope so.

Secondly, I wil not making American-Type Cities or others. I have an idea about this thing and planning. By the way I’m obsessive about geometry, symmetry and layouts. I think for another plan about my city plannings too.

Thirdly, There will be Equatorial-Semitic culture, in my country. The reason I choose it about my plans and purposes. Another reason is, I want to create a different culture and race and I called it Mascarens. It is a culture of Arabic-Jewish blending. Their language will be looking like Arabic and Hebrew but will not be using Semitic Alphabets, just Latin alphabet cause of easier than Semitic alphabets.

Except those, I’ll continue to use English about roads, ports and special things, just names will be different . I wrote as much as my English and I’m looking forward to your thinks, criticisms and opinions!

Thanks for reading your understanding!

Regarding the Gulf of Hetzer, it has occurred to me that a shipping line could be established to serve ports on that body of water. My suggestion to the other mappers on the Gulf is to link Caerarthen (Tircambry) with Eskwick (Wesmandy), Kongshavn and Vinn (Vinnmark), Larmonne (UL141), Szenhegy (Isztanorszag), Minogue (Hinton), Kirchenburgh (Welstand-Westrijk), Ligota (Szlonsk) and Solsburg (Utterland). What do we think?

This is rather philosophical:

You draw an opera in your map. By doing this, you acknowledge that in the OGF world the musical genre of “opera” exists. But this genre only came to be because of European music history of many centuries, so you acknowledge that this has taken place, too. So there has to be Europe, which there isn’t in OGF.

If OGF is a different world, why would they even have operas? Would they have orchestras? Wouldn’t they be playing totally different instruments?

Another example: The OGF encyclopedia states “Avoid referencing real world companies, organizations, and famous people or characters”. Alright, no Coca Cola etc. But what about math and science, for instance? Do we have to come up with a new name for Euler’s number just for the sake of it?

Of course all of this doen’t really matter much for the mapping itself, but I can’t wrap my head around the concept that the OGF world has to be similar to the real world when no real world history, people and places are supposed to exist…

I’ve been working mainly on paper, like tracing maps, writing ideas and stuff like that. Also I don’t have too many time, so updating Aŭstrasuno Tero will take some time and I’m considering little changes and adjusting things. I’ve been looking for a grid background for JOSM, but I think there isn’t any.

Meanwhile I’ve found an interesting exersice of summarizing a country information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkSo0WIVNcw

I was wondering about the status of making important religious sites - Like the Vatican, Mecca, and Jerusalem. I would think it is okay to do it, but after reading some wiki talk pages about it, I am not so sure anymore.
It would be great to see a place like that somewhere in OGF.

I plan on creating one of the above if I can indeed create one of those places.

Thanks,
Zekiel

May I for once (hopefully) express my extreme displeasure in the recent change of OSM / ‘Mapnik’ rendering for ‘farmland’ ? I know there has been a discussion on GitHub, I know there is a (for some) valid reason regarding confusion of colours for social amenities and farmland, but still…

My point is this: I model a tropical island. There, farmland is rarely vaguely green, as rendered now, but often a vibrant yellow. And larger patches of farmland in moderate climates now almost look like the default background colour.

I know ‘mapping for the renderer’ is an ultimate sin, but f#*k it, I’m trying to make ‘my’ turf look good. For me, OGF is as much art as it is skill. The sudden change of my plantations from sort of golden glow (sugar cane, anyone ?) to a decrepit ‘vomit green’ is realy annoying - even if I have to accept it in the end.

sorry for ranting, thanks for letting me blow of steam ;-)

Marcello.

I’m John from the Philippines and I’ve been a user for quite a few years. One of my big projects here is my project on the connection of the separate rail lines in Commonia. Right now, I’ve been working to link the previously separate rail lines in the southwestern territories, as well as by creating new railway stations. Right now, I’m working to connect the rail services in the West and East Cape regions and am planning to connect to the central parts of Duvar. A rail depot is now in operation south of Nueron Point in Brogen to serve local passenger trains and a freight terminal is being constructed in Dodgerstown to accomodate freight trains to the city ports. A connector line to bypass the central stations of Confluencia and link its north and south railway lines is now completed. As of present almost every major city in the southwestern coast of Commonia has a dedicated railway service. I’m also doing a line extention and expansion work in the northern areas to link with other rail lines already in place.

Here’s hoping every part of Commonia has a dedicated railway service.

Hi All,

Following the advice of OFG Making Realistic Countries, I’m trying to draft my landscape and natural resources in detail before beginning to map human stuff. My country is Embla in Antarephia. Check out the latest draft (rough sketch) on my blog here:

https://emblaogf.blogspot.com/2018/09/revised-elevation-map.html

Let me know if you have any suggestions for the realism of terrain/river systems, placement of population centers, or advice on continuing to build detail into the terrain.
