I think there should be another opengeoficiton site (earth.opengeofiction.net?) that is the real planet earth but includes only natural features. That way, we can colonise our actual earth. The borders of countries will be maintained but can be altered by virtual wars. Country names would be the same as their real world equivalent but people are encouraged to change them after getting posession of the territory.

This would be a lot more fun then OpenGeoFiction; more of alternate universe. It would also be interesting to visit your creations in real life.

There are probably some people who have heard of GauGAN, a program developed by NVIDIA.

It is an AI-powered engine which makes landscape, of your choice, based on millions of photos of geography.

It works like paint, you paint some things on it, click on a button, and boom it becomes a landscape.

It is an online program.

Right now, GauGAN is open for demo.

This means that y’all have access to making unique landscape with tools such as clouds, mountains, hills, water and rivers, to perfectly match your mapping.

Note that GauGAN is AI, so it may be confused at some things you draw, for example if you detail it too much.

Note that this is not an advertisement, but rather a reminder for people wanting to create unique landscape eventually for a wiki article.

GauGAN Demo

Demonstration

I actually made this landscape. This is a demo for some local hills and mountains.

I prepared the poll for the basic names in AR045. the poll will last a week and then the results will be counted and presented to the community in reasonable period of time.

All users of OGF are allowed to vote however the wage votes of people who own territories in AR045 already will be doubled.

The poll is divided into two due to technical reasons:

  • Part 1 - country name, flag, motto and some collaborative provinces.
  • Part 2 - the rest of collaborative and free-to-edit provinces.

In both parts giving the OGF username is required to prevent scam. This information won’t be published in voting results.

To discuss the names visit dedicated thread in the wikiforum or write here if you don’t have wiki account.

Hi everyone. I’m Martinawa, owner of Adaria, and recently I’ve been involved in a project regarding the topography of my country, eventually uploading into the topo layer the a contour map on the whole country. I’m not here to talk about my work, though, but the topo layer itself.

I’ve been enjoying my time with the topo layer in Adaria, and I have the feeling that working on a topo map for the OGF Topo Layer is a very intensive but satisfying work. Sadly it’s work that often goes unnoticed by many mappers, either because they don’t pay attention to the layer itself, or because topo edits don’t show up on the OGF edit history (as they are actually not edits on OGF themselves), and I think it’s a shame that many topo layers go completely unnoticed because they only cover small terriories. (As an example, I didn’t know until today that there was a topo layer map of Udilugbulgidhu’s Hesperis

I’d like to suggest the admins (and to an extent to the whole of the community), that this layer should have a little bit more of a presence into the OGF world, as it can become an essential tool for worldbuilding if well used. For example, keeping a kind of “history list”, with the edits made in the topo layer would be useful for those looking for inspiration, and also a chance for the users who made their topos to feature them and get feedback.

I know that user Luciano has been for now the go-to source for everything about the topo layer, but it’s a shame that there’s only one person to go to when wanting to ask about how to make such a thing. I’m of course willing to collaborate into making the Topo section of the OGF map a more comprehensive and motivating place for people to start adventuring themselves, but I’m sure more people could give their insights in topography if that part of the map was to be “easier to notice”.

Happy Mapping,

Martinawa.

Was browsing the web and stumbled on an old OGF tab. I decided to try my hand at mapping one more time.

I need help though. Not with mapping, I’m fine with that. It’s about getting a territory. I tried many, many times to request a territory, but the answer was always “keep trying, make it bigger,” etc. etc. Now it has become much harder since the implementation of the new territory system to get a territory. What should I do?

Edit: I just noticed that UL303 has been claimed. :,( Are there any available territories consisting of a small peninsula and some small islands? (Can be anywhere, but preferably around a temperate region). Thanks in advance!

Okay so this is a bit of a stretch, but I need help finishing Ykphane in the lines of Zoning and creating a capital district of the city. Honestly, I would also like help with a larger project that is the coast line of Aracadiana. I’m half tempted to open up my nation to more mappers but I also am scared of losing progress. So if anyone is interested in these following projects please message me:

  • Ykphane (Capital District )
  • H5, H5W, H6, H10
  • Districts/Oblasts
  • Coast Line (More Islands)
  • Villages along Route 41 (Islands)
  • H49 Corridor
  • H7 Northern Terminus near Emedekee Basin
  • Route 27 Removal
  • Route 88 Removal
  • Route 73 / H7 Interchange Removal

…

If you couldn’t tell by the list, I have trouble finishing projects.

I recently built the football (soccer) stadium for a Federal States league team I plan to add for Sierra.

It’s presently called the Meadowbrook Park, but wondering if anyone has a business to sponsor it. I like the current name, but it would fit in better like a sponsor name (most U.S. stadiums seem to have one).

I’ve been trying to get an idea of the potential weather conditions/climate of the southern half of Nova Calabria, specifically, the state of Sotagnà as well as the mountains in Sotagnà and the southern half of the country. Nova Calabria sits just north of the southern tropic, which i’m imagining the entire country would fall into the humid-subtropical (cfa) and maybe a tropical-monsoon climate (am) in the northern coastal areas. My question I guess is how extreme could the weather get? I’m picturing that due to winds and the water, the western half of the area would be slightly cooler;

December - H: 88 L: 75 January - H: 91 L: 77 Feb - H: 87 L: 78 March - H: 84 L:75 April - H: 80 L: 71 May - H: 76 L: 69 June - H: 69 L: 58 July - H: 66 L: 54 August - H: 72 L: 59 September - H: 77 L: 63 October - H: 81 L: 65 November - H: 84 L: 69

and the eastern half would see temperatures an average of 5 degrees warmer on the eastern half. But the reason i’m asking is because humid subtropical has a pretty expansive definition and I have very few nations around me to gauge the temperatures. Lexington Kentucky and Orland Florida are both humid subtropical but Lexington is lucky to see 50 degrees in the january while orland florida is generally in the 60s to 70s during the winter. I have marked specifically the western side of the state and the answers I see will help me decide on the southern half the mountains as well if any form of snowfall would be appropriate in the mountains (not yet mapped as far down in Sotagnà)

I have a pleasure to announce that AR045 is officially open for new users. Anyone who is interested in taking part in this amazing project may ask for a territory now.

Along with the opening I created the page with submissions for AR045 where all users may propose names of provinces, people and solutions for highway systems. The proposals will be discussed and voted later.

Have fun,

So I was looking at Wiesbaden Village and it has buildings and roads in German (or at least based on the language). I think it is good to make this area a sort of the old town of the city. Since Gobrassanya was supposedly colonized by Europe-like countries, it wouldn’t be surprising if Gautig (and the surrounding areas) was colonized by Bloregia, Eäßnordælånd or Eshein. It would be really nice to see the entire area be based off a German city. I wanted to use Qingdao as a basis but there’s not a lot of German influence there, so I think basing it on Munich would be a good idea.

Hi mappers!

It has been more than half a year since I started to map my territory and when I made a user diary in march where I showcased the early results of my mapping in Valka. There are many new things to show that were mapped in the last 6 months.

Update

  • The city center with the already showcased main station and a pedestrian zone, the government quarter including the parliament, the central park and a royal residence east of St Albert Park

  • A quarter northwest of the main station including a large university complex, some residential mapping and the Valka Zoo (coming soon)

  • A leisure quarter on the south coast including parks, museums, hotels, and other stuff

  • Mostly nature mapping on the island south of Valka including a very natural island, a small town, a village and a larger town (Melston).

  • aaand other stuff including The port of Valka with a large river delta next to it, a nuclear power plant and bits of interesting infrastructure mapping here and there and of course the already showcased airport north of Valka and Mayerstown and the fort!

What’s next?

I’m going to continue on Valka and the core city, will delete parts of the financial center, the fair and trade center and tweak a bit here and there. Then I’ll eventually continue on the island south or wherever I’m interested.

Tips?

What can I improve, add, delete, tweak?! Any tips are appreciated!

Thanks for reading the update and happy mapping!
