What's wrong with the wiki?

Posted by Toadwart on 21 July 2020 in English (English)

It has already been a bit slow for a while... But now it's just ridiculous. It takes minutes to load a page.

Has it been overwhelmed with overwikification? Or is there a more plausible explanation?

Most of the time I can only get the wiki to load the basic HTML.

It's certainly possible that the wiki server is starting to reach its capacity (in terms of user activity, pages, or bytes). I'm not super technologically experienced though, so I'm sure somebody on here would have a better answer than me.

I have the same issue as Yoyo. Takes minutes to load, then just "gives up". I end up cancelling loading and get the html. (which works fine, but is annoying)

Modules mediawiki.legacy.commonPrint,shared and mediawiki.skinning.interface are broken and takes a long time to load

Admins should consider upgrading?

OGF runs their wiki servers on a potato.

I'm having exactly the same thing. I give up loading after like 5 minutes, and when I press stop loading, it takes me to basic HTML.

Bloody annoying when editing wiki pages for minor faults...

I would love to see an answer from admins on this. This is a huge issue here on OGF, one that could cause a huge hit in collaboration effectiveness if not fixed eventually.

Maybe we can resolve that by getting rid of the wiki altogether?

There are free online wiki services, such as Fandom.
