Proposal: Mississauga-Bayview Bridge

Posted by Volcanizion on 30 October 2019 in English (English)

Looking at Gobras City, it sort of resembles Tokyo with how it shadows over cities like Ominoso and Margenson. And in Tokyo, there's a highway way out in Tokyo Bay called the Aqua Line connecting the two sides of the Bay.

So I'm planning to construct a sort-of highway connecting the bay together. Realistically, it would cutdown on travel time between Havreg and Eastern Gobrassanya as it would have to pass through Gobras City (which I would assume has crazy traffic).

This can consist of two bridges with a tunnel in between.

EDIT: PROJECT CANCELLED

Tokyo Bay Aqua Line is around 15km. Your proposal could span over a length of 40km... Also Gobras City suburbs are really not that developed (Maybe you should try develop them up to the Tokyo standards?) so it'll be a huge waste of money.

I do agree that these highways may be necessary to have a bypass to serve freight traffic, maybe extending A 201... But again, not every city (Even Tokyo!) has a bypass, so there's the money issue again. It's also recommended to contact the coordinators first before making major highway changes. See here for collaboration info.

I agree with wangi and austinhuang here.

Also, please stop deleting other people's work such as the Parovian Quarter, where you removed thirty-seven ways, and the Phailoon City International Airport, where you removed ten ways. Please discontinue such edits, and be more constructive.

My bad and thanks for the advice.

Any suggestions on how to improve my mapping work? Are there any areas in Gobrassanya where I can improve or build u

The entire idea of blue territories (for me) is to demonstrate that you have basic mapping skills. Should you like to create on a larger canvas, get a territory, but only after you practiced your skills to be ready for so. (Also read the wiki for regional acceptance conditions)

To improve your mapping, it is best to look at real-world examples on OpenStreetMap.

There is still space in Commonia to develop towns and stuff. Maybe you can try develop this town for example: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/9.0079/157.6518 If you like to draw airports, natural features, a rail line, military bases or anything for the town, feel free to do so.

I only partly agree with austinhuang. Commonia is definitely for demonstating skills, but Gobrassanya stands out more like a shared project, where different mappers can communicate by mapping in turns and building up on the work that others have initiated. Personally I would like to see the community develop more that direction. But big changes always need discussion first, if existing mapping is involved.

It really depends on what you prefer. Wanna map big and fast? Go Commonia, find an almost blank spot and start from scratch, or map a territory of your own. Wanna extend others' good work and make it better? Go Gobrassanya, go slow, be careful, check wiki, communicate with others and keep learning.

As always, happy mapping!

I'll probably extend others' good work on Gobrassanya because Commonia is a whole other can of worms.

Please keep in mind that good mapping is all about the small stuff. See the big things as a reward then. Building a motorway across a bay is somehow like spending a shitload of money for no benefit.

Very often when I look at a newbie's territory, I see nothing but motorways along the coasts, and as a cherry on top, there is a motorway somewhere across a bay without any reason. Seems to be a common thing.

Go to a suburb and build some residential roads, some reasonable buildings and a bit of environment. I am sure no one will complain. But just picking the motorways, you are sure to find opposition - for a good reason I think.

austinhuang mentioned something I was very interested in--extending A 201 around the western suburbs of Marangai through Kialeha to then turn at Pradaleen, ring around the far outskirts of the Sterbing metro area, and meet up at A 4 at the other end. I would like to see this project through, maybe even marked as construction or a proposal.

Charlie, that wasn't what I meant... (Yeah I know I didn't specify it)

I meant to extend A 201 northwards to connect to A 2 at a certain point, as to bypass bayshore freight traffic to prevent it from mixing with urban traffic. However, there's the plantation... And tunnelling 5+ km is very unrealistic. So for me, I propose an A 201 extension along Millenium Highway (map spelling, no typo), Gobras Boulevard, Western Gobras Curve, then Columbia Avenue to join A 2 at exit 9. The entire length will be elevated, which will significantly increase construction cost... So maybe not.

For the southern end however, there's no need to extend A 201. Slightly more south, Highway 33 (Marangai Expressway) has the potential to bypass traffic from A 4. Therefore, I propose extending Highway 33 to meet A 4 south of Pradaleen, then upgrading Highway 33 from Hadgefort Interchange to A 4 up to motorway standards, possibly renumbering it.

There are other problems regarding motorways in Gobras City: A cross-country (Queensboro ~ Marapura) semi driver may not be able to find a way to avoid commuters in this metropolis... So in addition, I propose upgrading Highway 51 (Milaukashka ~ Lualino) then extend it northwards to meet A 1 at Braxton Township (what a gigantic driving school it has, btw). Some motorways also seem to be quite extra, like A 221 in Margenson (not a significant bypass, also long tunnel) and Anah Heritage Parkway / Highway 301 (Attikai Expressway) east of GC (runs closely parallel to A 1, insignificant bypass). There are plenty of chances for people to improve the highway system. Charlie, since you actually edit Gobrassanya quite often (on the contrary, all I have in Gobrassanya is a bus company), will it be possible for you to study the changes I proposed? And also for Volcanizion - you can pitch in too!

austinhuang, please discuss this at OGF:Gobras City, not the User Diaries, thanks.

(comment: Gobras City isn't lacking in the motorways, the Plantation is a conscious barrier to that)

More generally, if somebody wants to "improve" something created by another user then check the edit history for the relation/way/node and contact the relevant editors by message in the first instance. Also, there are plenty area that need detailing, without stepping on toes.

OGF:Gobras City is the home for Gobras City collaboration. I know that's tricky when users without territory and advanced mapping are no longer generally given wiki accounts.

You can call me Austin. Comment moved. I would still say new users should try to communicate on User Diaries, then others should pitch in (Wiki could trigger overwikification).

Thanks.

New users should contact specific users via messages, not everyone using User Diaries.

Where a user is making high quality, considered mapping in a blue/purple territory then they can get a wiki account, but limited to collaboration use.
