It was my goal to finish the city of Siuvna in Garlis before mid-october, the whole city and suburban area up to the “everything-but-buildings” level of detail. That’s because this is the start of a period where I have only very little time for OGF. However, I did not succeed. But that’s not too bad, I like the city very much so far (not everything, but the majority). What do you think?

There’s one important language issue: Garlis was supposed to be Romanian-speaking, but things developed a bit differently and it seemed more logical that the “homeland” of Romanian in OGF is Antharia. So user @stjur supposed that the Garlian language, which is his creation, might be some type of “Proto-Romanian” - and I liked this idea very much. The problem was (and still is) that I don’t speak Romanian and I’m also not good at imagining a “proto-Romanian” language, due to my missing knowledge of Romanian language evolution. So here I want to thank @stjur for his help with naming streets and squares and all the hints he gave me for the language. At least the place names (towns, cities, villages, suburbs) are almost all my own creations.

I have to reduce my mapping time in OGF during the next months, but I hope that I can spent an hour or two from time to time.

Happy mapping!

Johannes

(Don’t mix this up with the “real history” of the name “Uletha”. I have no idea about that yet, or is there something written in the Wiki?)

When did the name “Uletha” come up? Already in 2010 I imagined the continent around Kalm, where the cities of Forberg (the first city I developed in Kalm) and Tarott are located. It took a while until it got its name, but it must have been at some time in summer 2010 that I found the name, together with a good friend of mine. We wanted to find a nice name, starting with a voal, but not with A or E (and yes, maybe also not O) :) and we both liked “Uletha” as a continent name. “Ulethaplatz” metro station of U7 metro line in Tarott was the first appearance of the name on the map, before the start of OGF. (See also this very old and bad quality version of the original Tarott map). Later, I called the old harbour re-development area around Ulethaplatz “Ulethastadt”.

In summer 2013 I sketched the first version of the Uletha outline in OGF, and Thilo did the other continents of the old world (I liked his ones a bit more, Uletha is in some points a bit too close to “Eurasia”). Before the OGF Uletha outline sketch I only had had a very rough idea of the north-western part of the continent.

(By the way: At the time I imagined the harbour of Tarott, I also imagined the name of one of the continents of the so “new world” in OGF: Ereva and one of the harbour bassins got the name “Erevahafen”. I did not name it in the OGF map yet, but you can see it on this old original Tarott map (at Q10). Later I was happy, because the name was chosen for the respective continent in an OGF continent naming competition.)

So, this is how the name developed. I just wanted to give you some details here.

Happy mapping!

I started my own territory. The islands at the southermost tip of this continent.

I really wanted to edit the coastline since i thought it was too straight. But i have some issues on how to edit the coastlines. Can you please help on steps on how to edit this feature? I know about the visual in the wiki. But i just want more understanding of the coastline so that i can give more detail to the coastline without destroying or redoing the entire island’s coastline.

Thanks,

AndJO

Hi everyone. I’m new here. I barely know how to use any of the editors. Just downloaded JOSM a few minutes ago. I’ve been doing everything in iD, but the tutorial didn’t work for me when I tried to use it, so I’m doing everything by trial and error.

Anyway, I’d done some edits around Gobrassanya and I noticed a town called Authou with only the major roads, railroad, and urbanized area drawn. I decided to focus on Authou and try to develop it into a full-fledged town. It’s near Artana, and I think of Authou as a small town that turned into a bustling suburb. I’m thinking of American cities like Olive Branch, MS, Franklin, TN, and Marietta, GA.

I still want to fix the A270/19 interchange and the western 19/Academy Street intersection, and add an interchange between A70 and 465/Hickman Road. I also need to extend 465/466 further. If I define the city limits, they’ll go out to all the highways and include the A70/A270 interchange.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Anything I’m doing horribly wrong I should change? Anything I’m doing right I should keep doing?

Hello everyone, nice to meet you guys, I haven’t talked a lot here even I’ve been active for several months right now.

I want to ask some advice from you guys about one of my first city called Puerto Esperanza, a riverside town that used to be a big industrial city but decaying because the industries went bankrupt. But the government want to make it as a tourist city.

So, what I want to ask: 1. Does the layout is enough for a city for 3mil population? 2. Does Puerto Esperanza need any mass transport beside bus? 3. Is there anything in particular such as infrastructure etc that needed to sustain the city to be tourist city?

The city economy itself resemblant from mid economy cities like Penang, Malaysia, and Cartagena, Colombia. I hope you guys get what I mean, any advice would be very good for me, and Thank you! :)

Bloregia, Inara, Pretany, Shilesia, Utterland and Welstand-Westrijk have already started the first steps of the formation of a Northwestern Uletha Union. This is more than just a paper empire feeding. More than just a fictional agreement. This pretends to be a real agreement between users, reflected on the fictional ground of OGF, in order to share experience and work together for the development of the area. At this point, we are discussing a constitution draft. Make me know if anyone of the next countries are interested to join:

Garlis, Kalm, Ventria, Isztianorszag, Grossherzogtum Ertelden, Ionadalba, Wesmandy, Cernou, Tircambry, Nordurland, Rutstinaskunta Ylevälfivet, Vinnmark, Koban, Galicja, Lanyenja, Svedonia, Pohjolsmaa nad Vandern.

i just started mapping on this site a week ago.

I just want some advice to how to make my city better. I want to start a new country, but I want to finish to what I have started. I tried going to that old European city and then with suburbs spreading out at the outskirts. I still want to ask you dear mappers to what I should do to my city more to make it look better. Thanks. JOMO.

I have tried my best to produce the highest quality work I can for OGF, and I am improving, but nevertheless, how could I improve (roadwise) on this place? I want it to have a more planned theme like Salt Lake City, which by the way is not bordering a lake, with a giant grid. I know that there is something missing within this framework, but I can’t place my finger on it. Please help me. Any kind of criticism for this area only is welcomed. Ignore the surrounding cities. I am not proud of them and will be redeveloping them soon.

Thanks, Zekiel

I like to make a question: what will be happen if everything gets very crowded, and with the exagerated thing that you can’t make new buildings because everything as get very crowded and the oceans are full of crowded islands and there is no green/yellow countries anymore and the blue gets very crowded, what will happen when OpenGeoFiction when gets crowded? (And the under construction countries get avainable and then gets crowded too)

I’ve started mapping the city called Fridrichshafen. An interesting thing about it is that it has few intricate shapes and is mostly planned from scratch, like Mannheim.

What do you all think about the city, as mapped so far? Should I continue like this or should I change something?

To the owners of Nordurland, Slavonia, Ingerland, Schwaldia, Scandmark, Florescentia, Kalm, Myrcia, Ionadalba, Cernou, Wesmandy, Vinnmark, Welstand-Westrijk, Shilesia, Utterland, Ventria, Garlis, Pretany, Tircambry, Lanyenja, Bloregia, Piicura, Pohjolsmaa, Svedonia, Konsiat, Galicja and Isztianorszag.

We share more than just NorthWest Uletha. We are the closer thing to Europe here in OGF.

Yesterday, a discussion about verisimilitude started in users diaries, and we all saw that some things have to change. The union makes the force, and it can be the solution to many of our problems.

Lets create an union in our area in order to coordinate our politics, history, economy and international affairs.

Lets create a Parliament on Facebook, where we can discuss and vote for any of the decisions that could have be made.

Write a common history, coordinated and rich. Help between us. There are experts of so many different areas, such as history, mapping, transport, design, languages, etc. We can help each other and make not only our country but also the rest of our community countries great too.

If we have new users, and the new users politics discussed are finally acepted, we can discuss in our parlament where to let them map in order to control them and teach them without any risk of destruction or flooding. There are many blank countries in the area, or maybe we can just let a part of our countries for that in a rotative way between countries.

If we vote as a group, we can give the admin team the decisions or opinions we make or have and we will be listen in a quicker and better way. A vote for each country, not for each user. An unique democratic answer.

Lets work on the construction of this community and lets make us big and united.

As some of you may already know, one of my main interests in OGF has to do with the interaction between nations, international relations, collaboration as a whole. So, considering the rule of verisimilitude much discussed around our numerous forum posts, I’d like to propose a new question: is the international politics of OGF realistic?

Maybe most users are not concerned about that issue, but I am. So, I’d like to propose a few topics for discussion on issues that have always annoyed me on the global level lack of realism:

  1. Number of Nation-States

So far, half of OGF is open for mapping. On a quick look, I could count around 400 nation-states (areas separated by administrative borders level 2). Sure, most of those nation-states don’t have an owner and even a lot of those that do, lack a present, participating owner. Nevertheless, my first question would be: Is that number realistic? A world that expects to copy the current configuration of our real life Earth would ever have 800 nation-states? My short answer would be “no”. I understand some regions of Earth are overly divided into countries, like the Caribbean and Central Europe, but those are exceptions. Of course I also understand the need for OGF to have always open green states for potential users, but to which extent that would still be possible? Wouldn’t that lead to a world with a thousand micro-countries? That leads to the second observation:

  1. Size and power structure

I have a multipolygon named Borgense Park in the east of Utterland. However, the label for the MP appears far away from the actual location - look at http://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/55.6047/46.9116. The westernmost extremity of Borgense Park shows up to the east of Uisteren, yet the label is rendered 60 km to the west, near Rijksbergen. I have previously split the multipolygon, which may have something to do with it. The issue only appears in zoom 10.
