I haven’t had time to edit my country and I’ve lost quite a lot of traction. I would like to have some feedback (as harsh as it needs to be) in order to improve the situation the territory is in. I will accept any comment, including the ones about erasing city zones or whole cities.

Thank you in advance!

Hey guys, I am starting to think I am going to have to bite the bullet for this one and have the Pretanic Faction State uprising spread throughout all of Pretany, mutinize the Pretanic military sometime in the early 1940’s and execute the royal family and crown, and then start a massive invasion of neighboring countries. it would be A sweep of a new Rusk Empire that takes over Suria, Galicia, Estensia, and threatens Kalm and Garlis but due to the Egyt Mountains makes it difficult to complete a full scale invasion. Rusk Empire theb become a major threat to Tircambry, Wesmandy, and use ground forces to invade large sections of Mazan and Sathria, as far south as Castellan. The Naval threat extends far into the northern countries through the Great Rift Sound, and then becomes the catalyst for creating the Mid-Pretanic Canal to invade Much of Kalm and possibly the rest of Sathria during a later date through the Barsas River. This eventually puts countries in the southern hemisphere at risk with control of the Sathrian Navy.

I’ve just updated to the latest JOSM version (my old one was really outdated) and it gives the option to connect to the OGF servers with OAuth. This seems like a better option, since it doesn’t transmit your password in plain text.

However, when I click the “authorize now” button, in order to get an access token, JOSM throws an error: “The automatic process for retrieving an OAuth access token has failed.”

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you!

Last month I focussed on a small area of territory as part of Luciano’s challenge. It was the first time I’d managed to do that, and I found it really rewarding. I don’t know if I’d be able to do it again – my attention is already wandering. Meantime, it would be great to get some feedback, so if you’re interested and, while its still fresh, here is the [District of Sanaray, Urne, Yshon etc] in the Free Doonist Republic of Shadze-Ma. Maybe its not all of interest to you - but skip down to the end.

The main settlement is the town of Yshon, vaguely modelled on the town of Castro, Chile – approximately the same latitude and level of development. So we have a ferry port, docks and various other features. No rail infrastructure on the islands, but I intend to add buses in future. More buildings and features still to be added.

The north-western islands are pretty rural, some with tracks rather than roads, for example Otaeay, Jangruy, Nerezen/Valizen.

The same goes for the north-eastern islands, but the main (international) airport is located on the only flat ground suitable for a big runway, on the island of Urne. The independent island district of Tayfir – with old castle – is situated not far away.

The southern islands are much less cultivated, with areas of largely unmanaged austral forests. I suppose they’re hillier with much steeper slopes, as on Dshon.

There are a few peculiarities – which will be wikied at some point when I have more time:

The micro-state of Dulan situated a few km to the south (I can’t tell you why its a micro-state yet – I’ll work it out some time).

The Semi-Autonomous Area of North Karg – a pilgrimage site for Tlönists, with the site of ‘the Non-Clock’ a ‘‘hrön ‘’. Various other bits and pieces continuing the same themes: agriculture, docks and light industry, religious tourism.

After a bit of planning, a group met up on Google Hangouts this past Sunday to talk about OGF. Well, a group of two as it turned out: me and Simon, a.k.a. Sarapeva. I can’t speak for Simon, but I had a great time talking with him for nearly an hour and a half about random OGF things.

One topic that came up that I promised to mention publicly here was the idea of a physical meet up.

I know in April that Thilo, Joschi81 and Histor met in Hamburg for a day of workshopping - I wonder how that went. What do you say, guys, how’d it go?

Simon and I thought, since there seem to be a fair number of Brits, Germans, Dutch and Belgians on OGF, Amsterdam might be a good central place to meet (and an interesting city map-wise ;-) Although we also realized also that there might be more people from the Americas than from any other region, so maybe Europe isn’t so central.

And thinking furhter, I realize for this to happen will mean a lot of work for someone(s) to plan and even finding a place to actually meet up could be tricky.

So what do people think? Sound like fun? Sound doable? Who’s interested? What would the purpose be? Should there be an agenda and if so, what should be on it?

I’ve just added more to the Commonia wiki page concerning Commonian factions. I see a lot of potential (and potential abuse) of this system of factions. I’d like to hear what you think about the political situation of Commonia and how it impacts on the rest of the world.

I also remembered that Commonia is supposed to be an official AN mandate. Clearly the AN hasn’t been doing a good job at keeping order, unlike Agarderia, which was under AN mandate 2000-2006 and now is back on its feet. This raises questions. Is it even feasible for the AN to even attempt to stabilise an area the size of Brazil when the terrain is often Vietnam-like? Knowing all the trouble the USA got into in Vietnam, how does the AN cope? Would this serve as a major criticism of the AN?

Tangent: The AN was formed out of a dispute between 2 organisations in 1966. This sounds a bit mundane and slightly unrealistic to me, knowing that the League of Nations and the United Nations were only formed when people realised that world peace was a priority. Surely we could alter this to tie in with a Commonia related incident-the date is about right and in my opinion it’s far more realistic that way.

I’ve been working on a re-build on Dunwic’s central station this week. Sarepava gave me some very helpful feedback on the old station and I decided to start from scratch to rebuild it. It’s inspired by Dutch stations where the railway is on an elevated level with a concourse at ground level and metro tracks below ground.

I am particularly proud of the station plan on the wiki page.

Take a look: On the map: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/56.33525/19.25231

Hello,

I have had mixed results trying to portray a planned highway extension. I have been using the “highway=proposed” tag and then a “proposed=highway” key, as instructed here.

At first I did not think this worked at all since the ways just disappear like untagged items, but then I switched to Histor’s style and it does in fact display a dashed highway like one would expect. (Histor I am coming around on using your style all the time, tip of the hat to you for its existence.) So this combination of tags does work, just not in the “standard” style that I assume most people use.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to overcome this? Anyone have a better way to show planned construction?

Thanks in advance, r.s.

The final product is not complete, but I’ve finally gotten far enough with the hand drawn fold-out version of the QUARTA QLine Metro Map to post to the wiki page. I’m pleasantly surprised. It actually looks realistic, to me at least. It also includes (while it’s hard to see it) major bus lines, trolley lines, the QCommute system, and major parks and neighborhoods. You can sort of look at it and imagine what the full map would look like based on the overview map.

Just as a reminder, this is what it used to look like when I first posted about it:

Hello all,

I wanted to get some people’s input on how I should go about tagging land use for Patriot City.

I have noticed that everyone seems to have a different approach when it comes to tagging landuse. For example, Luciano has very little tagging in his large city, Villa Constitucion. Whereas Leowezy tags a decent amount in his city of Ro.

Yuanls tags even more elaborately in his smaller city of Ellmouth.

My question is, how elaborate should I go when it comes to area tagging. For example, if I tag an entire neighborhood residential, there may be businesses in that area, and vice-versa for the downtown. I would also like to maintain a certain amount of uniformity with my tagging throughout the city.

Should I just tag the city center and key focal points as commercial and the rest of the city residential? Or go all the way down to the parcel level? (could take years)

Just wanted to get your input. Thank you!
