…and it rotates in the same direction as the Earth, the natural areas should be distributed approximately as follows: http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/6737/51351719.14/0_a6251_4389e0dc_orig (Average temperature, the tilt axis, eccentricity orbit, etc. are also affected, but I think they are the same as the Earth. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the location of major mountain ranges. So I made a map as if the entire surface was moderately hilly.)

revised routes .. Freeways are now GA routes (Galitania) instead of national routes.

Motorway A-2 (and Primary route 2) have been extended out to Queensboro and will be the new western terminus of A-2

Streets and avenues need much development. nodes need to be connected where they cross each other at-grade

 Gautig AR

There is a new massive development for industrial and commercial development northwest of the airport.. Major streets are built on a 1/4 mile grid. Residential areas will be located away for the airport noise zones to the north and west of Weisbaden Village.. Please feel free to add any contributions

This city needs some major development as well. Since it is the capital city of the district it needs a Capitol. Also it is the twin city to Malinton AV (Alora) and should be about the same size

Hi all, I’m trying to develop the new town of Samunta in the Yantia district in Gobrassanya, in the promontory just northeast of Gobras City,

In my mind Samunta should be a medium-sized (e.g. no more than 250.000), peaceful town on the ocean, with also some hilly parts (depending on its backland terrain). It might be linked via a railway line and roads both westwards to Gobras City and eastwards to Artana.

Streets will be named mostly after English/Irish and Gobrassanian/Asian-like names, with also some Spanish or Italian names, in order to fit to the general name schemes I found in towns and cities of other districts.

Any suggestions and contributions on how to further develop Samunta will be appreciated!

Many of you have already discovered it, but now I want to make it official: Opengeofiction has a wiki, where we can build a Wikipedia-style Encyclopedia of our fictional world. Please visit it at

http://opengeofiction.net/wiki

To get an account, please send a message to wiki-admin.

The guidelines for participation are rougly analogous to those of OGF itself:

  • Generally, you should create/edit only articles about objects that you have mapped yourself.

  • If you have a great idea about someone else’s creations, contact that user and discuss it.

  • If you want to write something about the relations between your country and another, also discuss it with that country’s owner beforehand.

If you don’t feel comfortable with writing articles in english, please use any language you want. Of course, if you want other members to read it, your best chance is probably with using english, but that choice is completely up to you.

As written above, the wiki is primarily intended to be an encyclopedia of the fictional world of Opengeofiction, but it can probably also used to discuss and document many other issues surrounding Opengeofiction. We’ll probably have to invent some kind of naming convention to distinguish between those different purposes.

Any questions about or problems with the wiki can be dicussed here, or on the “talk” pages of the wiki itself. In cases where that’s not sufficient, you can contact the special user wiki-admin. Behind this account are Fleur and LeFaune (many thanks for taking that job).

Have fun!

Welcome to OpenGeofiction. Be creative and have fun!

Here are some important notes regarding roadway design.

Motorways, Freeways, Auto-routes, and the like are dual carriage-ways and both directions of the motorway should be drawn.

streets should be “connected” at intersections. many new cities show them simply overlapped. if it crosses and is not a grade separation (aka bridge tunnel) it should be connected at that point with a node.

If you desire you can add traffic signals to your intersections.

Bridges should not be unnecessarily long. and make sure to place it on the appropriate layer (such as Layer = 1) or where two bridges cross. Layer 1 and Layer 2 for the second bridge that is higher. 3, 4, 5, etc. same thing with tunnels and subways (layer = -1)

I am sure there are more pointers but these are a few to start.

I’m interested to know how you all come up with names for generic streets because I have no ideas.

At the moment I’m just taking random words from my (small) Bayese dictionary and adding “straus” to the end but the dictionary certainly won’t last me very long.

So where do you get your street names from? Do you even name your streets at all?

The Brythonnic Imperium was created simply to provide a basic map showing settlements whose names are being used in a game elsewhere on the web. As such, the map is perfectly adequate for purpose. However, compared with other ‘cartographers’ efforts here, it’s obvious that my own map-making skills are sadly quite inadequate to the task of adding ‘reasonable’ data to it - other than the very most basic settlement points!

I would therefore like to invite two or three other persons to assist me realise my vision of the ‘State of Brythonn’ & ‘The Europan Polity’ ~ being the two fundamental partners involved in ‘The Brythonnic Imperium’.

Those interested should not mind being directed from quite extensive literature that already exists about many geographic locales in ‘Brythonn’ [short form], and also through further conversation with myself. Good grasp of English will be needed, as some of my/text/prose can be rather dense! LOL.

In Brythonn [and thus presumably all-over this planet the folk of Brythonn name “Opengeo” (so named for the Spacefaring-Ark which transported their antecedents from Earth)] the native fauna & flora are descended from three separate ‘birth of life events’ that occurred virtually coterminously geologically speaking, over two billion local years ago. So Brythonnic folk face a daily battle with alien lifeforms, both domesticated and wild… and there’ll be every opportunity for those accepted to help me build Brythonn ~ to create new fauna & flora as well, marrying it to the landscape they’ll be helping me construct! There will also be much free rein upon where to emplace settlements of all sizes too… I’ve only placed 40 or so, so far - and I have a ‘Gazetter of Brythonnic Place-Names’ that holds over 3200 more (which total doesn’t include place-names from within the Europan Polity, wherefrom I have about another thousand to add!).

I find rivers to be one of the hardest things about this project.

Is there any easier way of creating realistic rivers relatively easily? Or is there some sort of guide that can help to create realistic rivers?

If not, would anyone be willing to help me a bit with rivers?

Thanks :)

Today have been mostly improving the depiction of rail lines and stations in the capital city, in particular platform lengths. I am working on the basis of high-speed trains needing platforms 400m in length, commuter rail 200m and metro between 100-150m. The central station (Kastjaam) has several huge double platforms over 500m long to accommodate long-distance trains, or two at a time.

Also added more street detail and the automated light railway in Osmila, which is the peninsula south of the capital (technically an island). This includes possibly the only station in the world to be located in a library, in this case the massive Bibliotekkariika (National Library and archives) in the town. It’s a pity we can’t show the actual appearance as I envisage having the platforms decorated with sculpted depictions of books and newspapers.

I have also started naming more suburbs, in the main vernacular language of Karolian (a mix of the three main Finno-Ugric languages with a little German/Danish thrown in). In other parts of the country a minority speak Románš (Romanian/Italian derived). A job for the future is to add consistent spellings and diacritical marks to places and buildings.

Location: Auguste Cape, Marada

As before Grand lake is open for all creative additions I am especially trying to develop areas north of the city so any one who wants to may make their contributions there. Also south Shore is another area that was recently started by another mapper. looks nice. hope to see more activity there as well.

In addition I will open up the Gallaton City area for minor updates and changes if you would like even though it is part of my territory. please feel free to add any buildings or help construct neighborhoods since it is part of the greater Grand Lake and Gallaton International Metroplex.

A new auto-route numbers as a-140 this does not conform to the numbering schema of the region. it may better to number it as A-114 instead since it is a looping spur. and is connecting A-14

A-140 would actually be a spur from A-40

In addition a new auto-route had been constructed into Arrowic but had not been completed … I completed the interchange. it is possible to extend A-56 northward to travel along the southern portion of AW-14 since it creates a duplicate route number. … please discuss.
