I have tried my best to produce the highest quality work I can for OGF, and I am improving, but nevertheless, how could I improve (roadwise) on this place? I want it to have a more planned theme like Salt Lake City, which by the way is not bordering a lake, with a giant grid. I know that there is something missing within this framework, but I can’t place my finger on it. Please help me. Any kind of criticism for this area only is welcomed. Ignore the surrounding cities. I am not proud of them and will be redeveloping them soon.

Thanks, Zekiel

I like to make a question: what will be happen if everything gets very crowded, and with the exagerated thing that you can’t make new buildings because everything as get very crowded and the oceans are full of crowded islands and there is no green/yellow countries anymore and the blue gets very crowded, what will happen when OpenGeoFiction when gets crowded? (And the under construction countries get avainable and then gets crowded too)

I’ve started mapping the city called Fridrichshafen. An interesting thing about it is that it has few intricate shapes and is mostly planned from scratch, like Mannheim.

What do you all think about the city, as mapped so far? Should I continue like this or should I change something?

To the owners of Nordurland, Slavonia, Ingerland, Schwaldia, Scandmark, Florescentia, Kalm, Myrcia, Ionadalba, Cernou, Wesmandy, Vinnmark, Welstand-Westrijk, Shilesia, Utterland, Ventria, Garlis, Pretany, Tircambry, Lanyenja, Bloregia, Piicura, Pohjolsmaa, Svedonia, Konsiat, Galicja and Isztianorszag.

We share more than just NorthWest Uletha. We are the closer thing to Europe here in OGF.

Yesterday, a discussion about verisimilitude started in users diaries, and we all saw that some things have to change. The union makes the force, and it can be the solution to many of our problems.

Lets create an union in our area in order to coordinate our politics, history, economy and international affairs.

Lets create a Parliament on Facebook, where we can discuss and vote for any of the decisions that could have be made.

Write a common history, coordinated and rich. Help between us. There are experts of so many different areas, such as history, mapping, transport, design, languages, etc. We can help each other and make not only our country but also the rest of our community countries great too.

If we have new users, and the new users politics discussed are finally acepted, we can discuss in our parlament where to let them map in order to control them and teach them without any risk of destruction or flooding. There are many blank countries in the area, or maybe we can just let a part of our countries for that in a rotative way between countries.

If we vote as a group, we can give the admin team the decisions or opinions we make or have and we will be listen in a quicker and better way. A vote for each country, not for each user. An unique democratic answer.

Lets work on the construction of this community and lets make us big and united.

As some of you may already know, one of my main interests in OGF has to do with the interaction between nations, international relations, collaboration as a whole. So, considering the rule of verisimilitude much discussed around our numerous forum posts, I’d like to propose a new question: is the international politics of OGF realistic?

Maybe most users are not concerned about that issue, but I am. So, I’d like to propose a few topics for discussion on issues that have always annoyed me on the global level lack of realism:

  1. Number of Nation-States

So far, half of OGF is open for mapping. On a quick look, I could count around 400 nation-states (areas separated by administrative borders level 2). Sure, most of those nation-states don’t have an owner and even a lot of those that do, lack a present, participating owner. Nevertheless, my first question would be: Is that number realistic? A world that expects to copy the current configuration of our real life Earth would ever have 800 nation-states? My short answer would be “no”. I understand some regions of Earth are overly divided into countries, like the Caribbean and Central Europe, but those are exceptions. Of course I also understand the need for OGF to have always open green states for potential users, but to which extent that would still be possible? Wouldn’t that lead to a world with a thousand micro-countries? That leads to the second observation:

  1. Size and power structure

I have a multipolygon named Borgense Park in the east of Utterland. However, the label for the MP appears far away from the actual location - look at http://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/55.6047/46.9116. The westernmost extremity of Borgense Park shows up to the east of Uisteren, yet the label is rendered 60 km to the west, near Rijksbergen. I have previously split the multipolygon, which may have something to do with it. The issue only appears in zoom 10.

Hello I invite you to submit entries to the 2017 Aulean Touring Car Championship. As many entries from outside Auleus are accepted as are circuits. Also, Ben Feltman Racing needs an international manufacturer International Teams can also use RaccSport and AADMA-Snyder cars. Please fill them in yourself on the wiki.

Hey everyone,

I have some knowledge on how to map central city areas, but when it comes to city areas which are not urban or rural, I get very confused. I’ve mapped some suburban areas of Igwepir, which you can see here. I’m referring to Vagheen Nort – a modern, densely populated suburb (similar to New Belgrade and Petržalka) It needs some work, but it looks decent. On the other hand, there’s Kritzen, which is supposed to be a typical German suburb (like this, for example). But when I map Kritzen, it never looks good at all. It just looks like a bunch of randomly placed streets.

Do you all have some advice on how to make better suburbs?

Regards

Dear OGF Mappers,

if there is someone who has the talent in designing roads and streets: i need help.

I’m trying to design this complicated intersection, but I’m not talented for this. (you can see it better in JOSM).

That is why I invite all those who are interested and competent to offer me their solutions.

This part of my city was built by the end of the 19 century so, the intersection should be designed from that perspective.

As a reward I offer:

1.To anyone who suggests something seriously: One street or park in the city named after them or someone from their OGF history.

2.To the winner of the competition: or

*mentioned square (crossroads) named after them or someone from their OGF history; or

*Avenue north of the square named after them or someone from their OGF history; or

*If you like something of buildings that I designed; I can make something similar in your country.

I hope there will be at least one offer. ;)

Hi!

I have been mapping my first village in Eelanti for a while. The area is not complete yet but I would like to get some feedback on it. The village is called Peräkylä

Some questions

What do you like? What would you change/improve? Does the area look realistic enough? Any ideas to improve the quality of my mapping?

About Peräkylä

Peräkylä is a small village in Northern Eelanti. There are two major factories: Peräkylän Junatehdas (Peräkylä Train Factory) and Peräkylän Paperi (a paper factory). The odd railway is used by the train factory. Buildings that I have mapped are mostly bigger apartment buildings (3 or 4 floors). The outer parts of the village will have smaller houses. The village is growing so there are quite many new buildings.

Thanks

Eevee

Hi guys, I’m a new user, I have been working on my country Bloregia, especially the capital Blöndel, for a few weeks now.

I kind of have a positive problem. I already have a fictional country on paper that I have been developping since childhood: maps, flag, language, history, train schedules, art, literature etc. This country It is “too ready”, it would be uninteresting to map it into OGF as such. It is also too much based on real geography.

So I decided to create a somewhat different country. I use some features from my old work, like the language and history and some selected map structures, combined with new ideas. I also intend to save a previous owner’s work in SW-Bloregia relatively unchanged.

I have the advantage of already having made some of the usual mistakes of new users in my offline work, so hopefully I can learn from them. I now try to work from small to big, in stead of starting with a network of highways.

Here’s some Bloregian history: http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Bloregia

Bloregia is open for all kinds of international relations: diplomatic, economical etc. I welcome embassies, company headquarters etc. in suitable areas of Blöndel, please let me know if you are interested.

Comments appreciated!

Looks like I flooded Uletha, that’s what the Coastline Maintenance says and that’s what the map shows. I’m really sorry, it’s just that I can’t find the problem. It says that the coastline is intersecting itself somewhere on Geanina Beach, just that there is no coastline in this location… Please help… Or is there someone else who has flooded Uletha? Or does it take a little longer to render? Somehow the entire continent is flooded and it’s probably my fault…

EDIT: Would you look at that… While I was writing, the problem seems to have solved itself. Now that’s awkward.

Hello, fellow mappers.

I hope you had a fun time taking on last month’s challenge, which focused on culture. The comments indicated some cool projects were being considered. I’d love to know how everyone did.

Unfortunately, different things in life limited my ability to finish work in Iola as I would have originally liked. I was able to finish the streets and pedestrian areas in the old city of Iola and begin building work around the ancient amphitheatre. There are a couple things like a café called “La Ekterra” (The Underground), which is right across the plaza from the entrance to the catacombs. A few streets are named after former monarchs or important saints, too. I’ll try to keep working on it this month, as I’ve enjoyed working in this area.

Mapper’s Challenge #14 — By Air and By Sea

The challenge for this month is to work on an air or sea transport option in your country. For this, airfields, airports, seaports, ferry terminals, and other air or water-based transportation hubs are welcome. There are quite a few major airports in the OGF universe, but what about smaller commuter airfields or agricultural-based landing strips? As for the water-based transportation, seaports are always an option. Don’t forget about commuter routes like ferries or recreational places like marinas. Even if your country isn’t on an ocean, river transportation is just as important. Major trade can be done by navigable river, too. (Just ask Vienna; or for an even smaller town with 3.5 times the tonnage, check Huntington, West Virginia in the United States.)

So, for this challenge, try to determine what the needs are for your country right now. There is a great guide for building airports over on the wiki. Seaports are definitely going to be a bigger challenge and require some more advance mapping, in my opinion. Once you’ve decided on your task, go for it! Give it a try and see what happens!
