It really is better to do ALL the geography layouts before doing the actual cities/roads etc. Currently trying to figure out why X is in A instead of B even if actually B would be more logical in Hindsight. Jeez…
Have a nice weekend everybody.

Here’s the thing.
OpenGeoFiction has always been a really interesting idea to me. Collaborating with other people to essentially create a fictional Earth is such a cool thing to do, in my opinion. But, some of you may know that I have, multiple times, started mapping, lost interest, and come back again. I have just recently gained interest again, but I don’t want to go through this cycle again. I think I have identified the main reasons why I keep losing interest:
I don’t have a lot of free time to do this, and sometimes I just don’t feel like mapping. I think I need to just accept that maybe I won’t make edits for a little while, instead of simply giving up and saying, “well, OGF must just not be for me.”
I need to find the things that interest me. I found myself, the last few times, getting quite bored at doing monotonous things that I feel like must be addressed before moving on, when they really might not.
I need to be okay with not being perfect. No real city is exactly perfect, and neither should an OGF city be. Of course, this should be within reason, it shouldn’t just be stuff thrown around, but it doesn’t have to be this perfect, symmetrical grid. Speaking of grids…
I think I have a problem with grids specifically. I live in the US, so grids kind of come naturally to me. I feel that they have to be perfectly aligned and spaced, because my thought is “well, in real life, if they had a grid, it would be perfect!” I think I should just choose to avoid grids altogether for the most part.
I think also having some sort of goal in my head for what the final city should look like would help.
So, most of that up there was mainly written for me, but I would like to ask the rest of you of your thoughts. How do you keep yourself interested? How do you overcome perfectionism?
Today, my computer just prompt me with a message like this one:
File not found –set-root –ignore-flop…
Error 15
Press any key to go tot he menu…
Then a GRUB4DOS shit prompted and showed a bunch of options of Windows SLI complete mode, default mode, etc. And a command line
Then i try to boot them all with no success, then tried to run the GRUB comand line and tried to figure it out, also with no success.
Anyone who knows how to fix it, tell me please.
PD I write this on my Raspberry Pi and is very slow
Good Morning/Afternoon!
In my day job, I work in the civil engineering field (specifically residential and commercial site development).
I have been floating an idea in my head to create a basic how-to on site development and I am curious to know how many of you would be interested in something like this.
The entire site lets you pick a territory and write about it. It’s basically PlanetWorkShop, a site owned by ConWorkShop. You can add your languages there and stuff. They let you make like unlimited countries but they will automatically not be on the global map.
https://planet.conworkshop.com
Dropped the link if anyone’s interested. You could probably fit some of your OGF languages in there.
I would talk about this in the talk page, but I do not have a wiki account and most of those talk pages have not been active for about 1 month.
So Skalenia has been negociating recently if it should join organizations.
October 2, they voted on joining 3 East Ulethan organizations, including EUOIA.
The results? A whopping 83% of the assembly said yes.
I’d like to say that i’m ready to join tose organizations, but i cant because of the 2 reasons above.
My first successful attempt at creating an island. Rate it out of 10 in the comments/replies below.
P.S. As of writing this, the island is only visible in TopoMap and Histor.
Hey guys is it okay to make a RHD city cuz most of my city are RHD and my neighbours are mostly LHD. thx
Good mapping and hello!
Here are some things to make your city/town or country better!
I think the majority of East Cape is Chinese
Wassup everyone,
Hope you all are having a great day so far. Anyways, I’ve mapped about 20% of the map in Aidlenaide and I’ve gotten better in mapping, since I started training in the free territories. I believe i’ve gotten way better.
Anyways I still think I have small weaknesses, so I hope you guys can help me with my mapping, give a bit of suggestions and examples which I could use to modify my territory and civilizations better.
And whoever suggested JOSM to me thank you so much, it’s way better when creating really big features. I love it!

I have built a city, Lyrdic and its suburb, Melaco. I will start a new area just west of the main Lyrdic area
Normally I edit around this same time every M-F but we lost power until just now so I am finally addressing unresolved issues.
Hi mappers! I’ve been working on the immersive zoo of Edetanea (https://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/-16.33997/129.90213), the Biopark and I’m happy to see it almost finished. Tomorrow I’ll map two restaurants and complete some related places. It would be great to know which natural features and animals are typical of your countries, how are they habitats, and so on. Thank you and happy mapping!
I’m in the process of reading China Miéville’s fascinating novel “The City & The City”, which is also adapted to a TV series. The plot takes place in a fictional twin city somewhere in South-Eastern Europe. The two cities Besźel and Ul Qoma have grown into each other in a weird and complex way, but they never really merge, and the residents have learned to see only their own city and instinctively ignore e.g. bypassers who are officially in the other one.
I can’t help thinking that an OGF version of the idea would be exiting. Obviously, the original idea as such is both unmappable (how to map a tree which is partly in one city and partly in another?) and too sci-fi from versimilitude point of view. But some kind of complex mixture of two cities – perhaps with two overlapping but unconnected road networks – could perhaps be cool to create as a community project. After all, there are weird things in the real world, too – it would be more or less a combination of Baarle-Nassau/Baarle-Hertog and Cold War Berlin.
This is just a wild idea I wanted to share in case anyone takes interest!
(Side note: It is interesting that the name of one of the two cities “Ul Qoma” seems to mirror the Finnish word “ulkomaa” = “the abroad”, but I can’t find any verification that it is intentional. I thought at first that the word was an invention of the Finnish translator, and I was astonished to see that the same name is used in the original English version of the book.)
Thank you for the advice you gave me on my last entry, but I need to solve one last thing….
Can someone detail my coastline? User Paxtar added 900 nodes to my coastline a few months ago, but I am 100% unable to move them.
Hello guys!
I’ve been developing a city (actually, more of a town or village) in Midistland named Icadena. Do you all have any ideas for how I can improve, or would any of my neighboring cities (like Ñunoma) like to connect more? Thanks!
Hello!
Long time no see, so I have a problem, namely a problem with how stuff appears, check out for yourself
https://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/63.15464/47.52682 On the normal render, you can’t see the ‘zeegracht’ or the island in the middle of the of the lake, but change to topomap or histor, and you can.
I have tried everything that I know of, but I really don’t see what’s causing it, so is there someone out there who can help me fix this issue?
