Hello everyone.
I seem to have reached 2 years on OGF, so it’s time to reflect on my progress as a mapper (just as I have done last year).
What’s happened: - Moving territories (not too far though) - More extensive planning
In general, I feel that I have improved significantly over the past year, though not yet to the level that I would like. Certainly, the only thing I can do now is to practice, and to continue mapping and improving until I reach that level.
One of the most important and positive changes in my mapping this past year is the major increase in my use of external plans. That is, I have been planning my maps better through off-site resources (i.e. paper maps). It’s much easier for me to edit and make any changes to a paper map (in my personal opinion), and it seems to look nice as is (so it’s something that I can keep as well). I think that using paper maps and external planning has been the biggest and one of the best improvements to my mapping so far this year.
I’ve made some great friends over the last year, and I have learned quite a bit from them. It’s great because I can ask them questions and get some more in-depth advice and criticism from them (as they would know the backstory and context of what I am showing them and can ask more questions that come to mind on a quicker basis). In turn, I can do the same for them, and all of us can improve as mappers together.
To sum it up, I have made amazing improvements this year, and I’d like to attribute it to my friends (you know who you are), the use of external planning (which I should have began doing long ago), and the use of JOSM.
I’m really determined to improve my mapping and I’m quite thankful for OGF and the people in it.
It’s time for round 3!
Thanks, Zekiel
I was wondering about the status of making important religious sites - Like the Vatican, Mecca, and Jerusalem. I would think it is okay to do it, but after reading some wiki talk pages about it, I am not so sure anymore. It would be great to see a place like that somewhere in OGF.
I plan on creating one of the above if I can indeed create one of those places.
As of right now, I have restarted my country once already, but it’s starting to become a mess now in my opinion. I’m wondering whether it is a good idea to delete it again or not.
Since I have rebuilt my country, I have felt good about the progress I was making at the start, but I am starting to get dissatisfied with the quality of my mapping. Much of the country is empty right now, which tells me that I have made some progress, but I don’t feel like I have made a lot.

Notes to ignore:
Any advice on what to do next is appreciated!
Would it be safe for me to assume a specific country as the official parallel to a real world place if another future country will come with that intent?
As an example, I am assuming that Ataraxie is the parallel of France since there is no other parallel currently in existence. In the future though, there will be a future parallel (UL141 I believe) for it. So is it safe in this case for me to assume that Ataraxie is the “France” of OGF and write a history based on Ataraxie being “France”?
(PS on the wiki page for a proposed war in the past, I placed Bélice in one Pot specifically against Ataraxie as it was seen as the imperialists that were the closest to Bélice culturally like USSR against Russian empire in the rw)
Sorry if the wording is confusing.
(NOTE: I don’t own Ataraxie)
Hi
So, I’ve counted the days (actually just looked at the day I got my OGFiD license and my profile says it), and it turns out that I have reached 1 Year at OGF. I don’t know what this means, but I can reflect on my mapping and how it’s progressed up to date.
I realize that I have progressed slowly but surely (just really slowly), and the quality of my mapping has only gotten better (I hope). I’ve deleted my country once because I realized how bad it is, I’ve tried European and North American style cities, and I’m still not pleased with what I have now.
What will the next year bring? Have a great day.
PS: I’m removing the dyke soon.
hi.
I just finished the Paul Luc-Jean Centrale Nucléaire (PLCN), and I wanted to know if it is the largest and how to improve it.
In 2003, the government of Bélice passed Le Loi Vert (The Green Bill), banning the use of gasoline cars by residents, among other things. One of the effects was that all old gas plants were demolished and replaced with the one new nuclear power plant. Construction was already underway as far back as 1997, and with a lot of government funding, the entire site was completed in 2018.
The construction of the facility cost the government the equivalent of $40 000 000 000, along with other costs associated with The Green Bill, which had put the nation into massive amounts of debt, but with the surplus of energy created by the plant, Bélice is now running more surpluses and slowly moving out of debt.
Each of the large stations (nicely named Station 1, 2, and 3) contain 4 state-of-the-art BEDU (Analogue of CANDU) reactors, and therefore contain 12 reactors in total. This one plant can supply the entire nation with power and still have more to export to other nations nearby. There are nearby wind and solar farms, as well as hydroelectric dams (coming in the future)
What do you think? Any questions?
Note: The buildings will be resized and the layout changed.
Is it allowed to use the Blue countries like a ‘Testing Zone’ for cities to see if we like it, then copy-paste it into our own countries?
Also, could it be possible to ‘Control’ those kinds of areas that we use as a literal ‘testing ground’?
I don’t know if this is supposed to go to forums.
Has anyone so dar tried making dikes in their OGF country? I know I have, and I’m starting the new project here, or the Real-World counterpart here.
You just knew I was going to reference the Netherlands, didn’t you.
If anyone has, please tell me how you did it and managed to get it to render in a higher layer.
I figured out how it was done in OSM. Still, I want to know how people at OGF have done it.
Over time, I noticed the Word of the Week being posted here for people to participate in, but now there aren’t any more being posted. Are the people busy, was it moved elsewhere, or was it discontinued altogether?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all! Does anyone know how to make a large plateau in their nation? I’m thinking that you just put a cliff, but it is not very representative of a plateau and doesn’t render as quickly as the structures around it. If anyone knows or has any examples, please tell me. Once again, Happy Holidays!
There is a cliff on the map that I’m trying to use as a plateau, but it does not render as quickly as the road on the other side of the border (At Zoom 12). This is what I mean.
Hello Everyone,
I have been here for at least 5 months, and I still don’t think that my mapping skills have gotten any better since Day 1. I am still very dissatisfied with my work and am willing to delete it all if needed. If anyone reading this has the time, could you please criticise my work in a comparison from Day 1 to now. I will not be disclosing the time I worked on it to give a fair atmosphere. Please give any advice, even if it is to delete it all and start over. Also, if I am to start over, I am wondering if I should start with all the roads connecting the big cities, then the small cities, then work on the big cities, then small. Any criticism is accepted, thanks.

PS: Thank you for taking the time to review this. I really appreciate it.
I have tried my best to produce the highest quality work I can for OGF, and I am improving, but nevertheless, how could I improve (roadwise) on this place? I want it to have a more planned theme like Salt Lake City, which by the way is not bordering a lake, with a giant grid. I know that there is something missing within this framework, but I can’t place my finger on it. Please help me. Any kind of criticism for this area only is welcomed. Ignore the surrounding cities. I am not proud of them and will be redeveloping them soon.
I’m sorry for bothering you about JOSM (again) so I’ll make it quick.
What are the controls (i.e. To make a way straight)? I looked at the controls list but didn’t find anything.
Please, if there are a simple set of controls, please send it to me.
Thanks, Trombonist2003
For another year, school has arrived. That means that many of us OGF mappers will be less or not active for the next 9 months. I don’t know why I didn’t post this earlier, as it is already three weeks into school for me… So please excuse us, and good luck for the year ahead!
Also… I need constructive criticism for making major cities. I don’t have any as of yet, but it’s good to plan ahead.
And… I don’t know how exactly this happened. Help?
I followed the video exactly on how to set up JOSM, but after downloading the area I want to work on, the layer starts off as a black background with a bunch of lines. I tinkered around with the layers, and even reinstalled JOSM, but it still remains. Is this something that’s wrong with my computer, or is this a part of setting up JOSM for OGF?
P.S: We should get a Discord server just for OGF. Just my suggestion.
How would you show subway lines? Would they not be shown, or would they be a railroad alongside the road? Also, how would you number subway/bus lines?
Is there a list of Observatories/Research Facilities in the Wiki? (Not including the Southern Islands)
P.S I’m thinking of putting an observatory facility on the location, but it may not have rendered yet.
Are there any restaurant chains in any country that anyone can use (Like Mcdonald’s of the real world)? Please let me know if there is a wiki for this.
Hi. Is anyone mapping their nation’s in the Filipino language (Tagalog)? If so, I would like to know what the equivalent in OGF is. Also we should have a map of the tectonic plates so we can see where mountains would be.
At what point of a nation’s development would it be appropriate to create a Wiki Page for it while not Overwikifying it? I was wonering as I was planning for a Wiki Page for my nation, but am not sure if my nation was even nearly developed enought to even think about planning for one.
