Today my colleagues at work discovered my activities on OGF for the first time - which is odd when you think about it, because I have been working for my current employer since November 2017 and regularly add things on my OGF maps during lunch breaks using my work computer where everyone can see me, so I guess they weren’t really paying attention until now :)

They thought I was playing some computer game; they mentioned a name but I forgot it (I haven’t played any computer games since - I guess - Supaplex in the late ’90s so I’m not really familiar with computer games at all) but it turned out to be what they thought of as the ‘background’ of those games. I think they were kind of impressed by the possibilities of OGF; if one of them tries it out I will be pleased but I think it’s not “active” enough for them.

They did comment on my mapping though. I have been working on Wyster lately and they suggested that the international airport of Hreawirc (the capital of Wyster) isn’t very accessible at the moment, so I should create a highway towards it. They could be right, but I’m not sure that it should be a highway. Wyster being a tiny country, it has enough highways already, I think. But a more prominent connection to the city should be made; I’ll put it on my list.

Did you share your OGF activities with friends, family, colleagues? What was their reaction?

Even though colonization is pretty non-existent, couldn’t there be some “remaining” pieces of colonies like the falkland islands of the U.K.

For example, my Hifnakia claims a little area in eastern Gobrassanya called Tranquenstein and i claim north-eastern UL-074 as Pelsbock.

But it is only autonomous and partially controlled by Hifnakia.

Soooooooooo… What do y’all think?

Why it is it? UK in real life is strong in navy because is an island, and its more practical defending the sea rather than defending the own land (wich leads to domestic loss and domestic loss leads to unable to colonize properly), UK was really strong because its navy protected him a lot, (without his navy UK very probs lost WW1 and WW2), UK used its navy to navigate trough the world, and trough making many colonies around it (US,Australia,New Zealand,India,West Indies, and many other countries), so it happens exactly in OGF Ingerland with FSA and more countries, but i think Ingerland should be a secondary power like france, wich had many navy but not like UK, but had a lot of more soldiers, in contrast to UK, Ingerland is not an island so it will be more concentrated on protecting his mainland, even trough ignerland had islands off coast, it would need to still defend its mainland, navy would be secondary thus making everything hard for ingerland (Unleast its an switerzeland but thats fucking impossible since colonizing isn’t neutral act, and will un-neutralize it).

Hi there, I’m the new owner of UL156 (now U̶l̶e̶t̶h̶i̶a̶n̶ ̶U̶n̶i̶o̶n̶ Ulerolånd) - and I want to share it with you

Some basic information about U̶l̶e̶t̶h̶i̶a̶n̶ ̶U̶n̶i̶o̶n̶ Ulerolånd

U̶l̶e̶t̶h̶i̶a̶n̶ ̶U̶n̶i̶o̶n̶ Ulerolånd (UU for short) is an immigrant country mixed together with culture from all over West Uletha. *Population: around 8 000 000 people *Languages: Ingerish (Official Language) / Galician / Bloregian / Eäßnordælåndic *Capital city: Ülegro *Government: Direct Democracy

Todo list

  1. Say hi to the neighbors
  2. Map everything
  3. (If possible) join VEC
  4. Map even more
  5. Profit™
  6. Build some embassies
  7. (Maybe?) get an exclave with sea access for port
  8. Even more Profit™

But what about MisterBean and his plans?

Well, as you can see on a map: a southern part of UL156 was cut away, stuck together with UL157 and then added to the earlier cut half of UL159 and called UL157 - made especially for MisterBean to build his fascist nation in :3

EDIT: Chilled and made name smaller. Also added Eäßnordælåndic.

  1. I have tried to upload a “GPS” file by typing in coordinate data into a plain text file according to .gpx file format, however it seems like the file disappeared immediately, and the link on that page was also not giving any OGF-specific information with only a link to OSM. Anyone know what’s wrong?
  2. I have tried to edit OGF with an app called Go Map!! but it’s keep telling me I have bad user name when I try to login into my OGF account even after changing the login server to OGF’s api server. Is this a problem in the application?
  3. I have also tried to edit OGF using the web iD editor, but it’s having the same restriction as the iD editor on the OSM service that make it pretty much impossible to plan or edit any large scale features using the editor directly. Is there any possibility to change that restriction to make it more suitable for OGF’s need?

I want to make a large city of 1 million+ people. My city currently has 50,000 residents and I need help expanding. If anyone wants to edit Taimatsu, West Commonia, then ur welcome!

Connection to transport

## Please not too many motorways xD So I want to connect my city up to: * Railway / subway systems * Highways, though only 3. I already am connected to 1 so I need 2 more. Also, If anyone wants to extend the great ocean road feel free to do so. This road is going to be only Primary, not like a Motorway. * Rivers, though only 2. We already have the Dorian’s mouth. I am thinking another river can go Inwards and link to the Dorian circa fifty Kilometres down the line. However, 2 rivers is a lot and I might just avoid that option. However, what are your opinions on this?

  • Ferry Routes, going to major Commonian Cities and to South Island Locations!

Thanks!

Hello OGF people! Recently I have obtained a territory in Archanta (thank you for that to admin) called Kingdom of Déserts, mostly covered by desert and then I started to develop the first city, called Argomikos. I have left the coordinates for you to give me your honest opinion; can you tell me if it’s unrealistic or if it’s alright? I am looking forward to your response, Mapping Expert

yup

Based on the success of the February City Sprint, I’m proposing a new challenge for the months of March, April and May: the Spring Cleanup.

Do you know people obsessively vacuum every corner of the house, change the sheets and wash the windows every spring season? Imagine something like that, but on the OGF wiki. The main objective is to go through your contributions and decide - are these pages and files necessary or can they be deleted? The side task would then be to organize the content you would like to keep into categories.

More information in related forum post.

I am working on a city in West Commonia and want to build it up and make it as realistic as possible at the moment. The City is called Taimatsu. It is a Japanese city with western developments. This city started in the 1950s and due to low budget in the early days, all they had was a few stores near the ocean and a Bull Track to take goods to the stores and for people to walk on. I want to make the city suitable for 250,000 people. At the moment it only fits about 30,000. (and also has a restaurant that scams little kids by starting up outside the main primary school so kids sneak out of school to grab a burger instead of going to the cafeteria, but that’s for another time) So could you please do some development of the city, I need more built up areas. Also, how do I get my dot for the city larger?

Thanks, Tyrone xD

This post is for native Spanish speakers.

I’m currently working on Castellabájo (Xʌшtaııʌҕʎɔo), a language based on Castellanese for San Basílio state in Unesia. Spanish is not my first language, so I’m not sure how it would seem to a native speaker.

I’m currently deciding between two different historical narratives as to how the language and script developed. Knowing how close or how far the language is from the original will help me determine which story I’ll go with.

What are your thoughts, based on what I’ve mapped [here] (https://opengeofiction.net/#map=14/-31.5302/165.7941)?

Are you able to decipher the transliterations? Are the contracted words potentially confusing? Aside from the written script, would you consider this to be a separate language or a dialect?

Gracias!

I didn’t want to let it pass without some kind of mention: as of today, the OGF City Sprint is officially over! It was a lot of fun watching the progress across all four continents. Big thanks to the more than three-dozen (!) mappers who signed up, and the dedicated folks who kept at it all the way to the end.

I’m planning to do something in the near future with the Daily Dose of Mapping Mojo posts, perhaps creating a kind of toolkit for breaking through mappers’ block. It would be really great to hear from the community about what your favorite resources were, and if you actually found some of the links that were shared helpful in thinking about your city in new ways.

=====

On a personal note, I first floated the idea of a city sprint because I wanted to hit fastfoward on mapping my capital city, and on that front it was a rousing success! I set a personal goal of mapping 100,000 objects in a month, and ultimately mapped a grand total of 103,636 nodes, ways, and polygons during the 28 days of February. I’m planning to write a post introducing Canan-Yar to the world over the weekend, so more to come. I definitely would not have had the momentum to do it without all of the sprinters! :D

Some of you may remember my handle from years past; I was mapping the Island of Mallorjhe in southern TA for some time before life… you know, happens (births, deaths, new jobs, all that stuff.) Long story short I have been inactive for about a year and I see no real likelihood of my coming back any time soon, much as I would have it otherwise. Perhaps one day, but not soon.

As ways to waste time with a computer go, OGF is among the best. I’m sorry to leave it, though hopefully I leave it slightly more interesting than when I started? Thats all we can hope for I think. It was fun, it was difficult, and I will miss it. See you around someday, hopefully. Until then-

Good Luck and Happy Mapping, R.S.

So, yesterday I successfully claimed territory AN150i. I am grateful to be able create a country.

So with that in mind, the city along the newly named Crystal Lake will be all but gutted for the purpose of rebuilding, as it will serve as the capital. For the most part, I did not like how the grid is. Connection to other cities will also be forthcoming for this purpose.

Another thing is to get the name of my country recognized on the OGF map, so I may need help on that department.

And last, but not least (for the time being), I am making the flag and coat of arms for the country.
