It seems to be the month for asking feedback on a particular area, so here’s my request:

I have been working on Känton for nearly a year and the street grid is practically complete. What I am interested in is your comments on the provision of facilities. Do I need more schools, hospitals, police stations, supermarkets, etc? Are there any significant buildings I’ve overlooked? Are the various ‘webs’ of residential cul-de-sacs at a realistic scale?

The city is very ‘intellectual-economy’-based but should there be more industry?

Even considering the city is ‘car-unfriendly’, should there be more parking? Or more out-of-town park and ride areas? I am not happy with the University junction 4 - how could this be remodelled?

Is the S-Raud depot big enough or should another one be built elsewhere (there is a small depot at Arpeiva)? What about the bus depot? Is the curve too tight for mainline trains?

Karolia is one of the least religious countries in the world - should there be more churches?

Does the topography seem right? The city’s lowest level is around 50-60m above sea level, so are the hills realistically high? Is an incline needed around the Haaluptee area to explain the large meander?

Finally, the population of the greater metropolitan area (so not just the city proper, but Kasmila, Taasialinn, Jorvaraanta and other satellite towns is supposed to be 530,000. Does this seem realistic? There is a lot of building and planning going on to expand greenfield and brownfield sites in the suburbs.

I am aware there are a lot more streets to name…

So I was editing the history section of my country, and I wondered, how to make a history in OpenGeofiction?

What about empires, do I make them up, or do I make realistic empires that have existed before or something?

I also noticed earlier that my land used to be a province in a country called Picard, do I note them too? On another note, I was curious, what happened to this country?

Hello everyone!

I was mapping and assigning names to places or roads ; and I wondered : are there any important or famous people (significant figures like heroes, politicians, celebrities…) in OGF world ; and may their names be given to streets, roads… ? (like in the real world)

Thanks for your answers!

Responding to Luciano’s challenge, I would like to know a bit more what other mappers think about this area. The map is obviously far from complete - and there are still relics of earlier experiments there - but, all in all, what in this city is wrong? What should I focus on deleting and reworking?

For background, there is info in the Kėzėpölān wiki, but all this is tentative (especially the economic stuff). The main points may be:

  • cool climate

  • very limited private car ownership

  • focus on family life and education

  • commitment to ‘self-sufficiency’ in food production, wide use of marine resources

  • commitment to hi-technology and industry

  • commitment to development of sports and arts

you can of course critique these as well.

I have made a blank map of the Great Sothern Island. Part of the Harda Archipelago, is the island where Semer Republic and Aŭstrasuno Tero are.

the map

I made it first downloading all the coastline data from OGF in JOSM, there was a need to filer it using the search options in JOSM (natural=coastline selected). All those filtered data, which should be the coastline and the administrative borders, where copied and pasted in the same position into a new layer in JOSM, then I exported it to a .gpx file. Using the aplication gpx2svg I converted the .gpx file to a .svg one. Once converted, I used Inkscape to read the .svg and then exporting the final draw to a .png file. This was made using Linux, I don’t know if there is a way to do it in Windows or Mac, but there should be (if not, try Linux, it is free :D !).

This is a blank map, it is an example of how to get blank maps easily.

Hi there!

During the last days, I was the victim of several “rookie attacks”, there were unwanted modifications in my country from several new editors (i think you all experienced this kind of edits). Even if those edits are quite small and localized in general, it would be quite comfortable to just undo the changeset the user made. Is there any way to implement this?

Greetings and happy mapping! Markus

Lately, i have been thinking a lot about the creation of non-OGF maps of OGF countires, continents etc…

So i thought, to practice my Inkscape mapping even more, i thought i would offer anyone who is having trouble creating general maps the opportunity to let me experiment and see what turns out best.

If you are willing to have me make a map of your country, please notify me below.

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently contact some user to set up flights from and to Balonis. I now thought: why not posting a diary to contact everyone at once? (And I also thought, why didn’t I think about this earlier :p) So here it is:

The past three weeks I’ve been working on my flag carrier airline BalonisAir. I would really like to add more flights. So, please give me suggestions in the reactions below where I could fly to. Do it as follows:

DESTINATION // COUNTRY // RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY (DAILY OR WEEKLY)

Example: Malojdeh International Airport // Neo Delta // 2 daily

Example2: Aéropuerto Regional Trece Templos // Ardisphere // 5 weekly (1 flight on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, 2 flights on Friday)

I’m looking forward to add some destinations!

Also, if you want to fly from your country to Balonis read the following. You always have permission to fly to Aeropuerto Internacional de Ciudad de Balonis. If you want to fly to another airport (for example the one in Morros) please contact me by sending a message.

Greetings, Niels20020

Hello fellow mappers, how are you all doing? I’d like to show you something really interesting I’ve found online, if thats ok with the admins. To start: So I’m myself from the ,Ruhr Area’ in western germany, which is a huge urban area that used to be germanys central steel and coal producer, with about 8 million people and a population density of about 2000/km, almost 8000/km if you only count the central urban part. The area used to be dominated by heavy industry until the 1980s and has managed to move more towards other businesses. Theres a agency that takes care of special projects like museums and also, here it gets interesting, Aerial Footage taken all the way from the 1930s until today. Some time ago these were published on a website called ,, https://www.luftbilder.geoportal.ruhr/ ‘’. Why am I telling you? Because if offers the opportunity to view the development of an european urban agglomeration in the past 90 years with footage from 1926,1934, 1952,1963,1969,1990, 1998, 2006, 2009 and 2015. I believe this is unique in that we have aerial ,google maps’ style footage of such an large and important area and that it might be helpful to be able to take it as help to see how cities have developed, with fields being transformed into endless suburbs or large industrial sites being used for modern warehouses or parks. You can zoom all the way in and even see how much space was given to cars during the 60s-90s and how cities started to re-arange urban spaces, large through roads becoming pedestrian zones etc. or zoom out and look how all these autobahnen that used to be under construction in the 1969 view are not only finished but covering the whole area, and where in the 1990 view one can obviously see the space where they wanted to continue but didnt.

If you want you can take a look, I’m sure others would find that interesting to look at aswell. Happy Mapping -kingfries (Oh and admins excuse me for this ,non-ogf-world’ post)

I’ve recently taken a break from ‘ultra’ high-detail mapping in Plowford(you might need to zoom in), and focus with some work on the Glastian capital, Wyndham.

Wyndham need a significant cleanup. Unlike most of my towns and cities, it was drawn in a rather haphazard fashion, and rather than drawing Wyndham all in one go, which was possible with all my smaller settlements, I decided to draw Wyndham gradually. This posed problems; Wyndham became a patchwork of poorly mapped, well mapped and iffy areas. I decided to fix the problem this week. Below is what Wyndham looked like before and after.

Hello Everyone. I am new to this community, and I want to add a wikia page for my [country] (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=7/11.555/35.442) which barely has anything yet (you know, for later). What do I do, and if so, what exactly do I write in these pages? Stuff like in the real Wikipedia?

Also, how do I make harbours which look real, like this? Does it require moving coastline or there’s another way?
