Hello, I need some real help with a template I am making. It’s seemed to have screwed everything up and I have no clue what is going on. The template is here (http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Template:Infobox_football_association). I’d be eternally glad if somebody who knows what they are doing can fix whatever it is going on, everything I try to do makes it worse…I have no use in the world of code x3

Hello fellow mappers,

I’ve had the pleasure to once again visit Prague during the last couple of days; hence I wasn’t able to update the wiki main page, and I forgot to do so in advance unfortunately.

One thing I wanted to share with you though was the following two pictures. I stayed in a cheap hostel at the edge of the old town of Prague. To access it, you had to enter a very inconsiderable front door, which led to a rather run-down stair case. All floors but one were occupied by either the reception or dorms, but on the 3rd floor there was the portrayed door, with a small sign declaring this to be the embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Czechia.

My point is, I often find that when we (and this very much includes me) map embassies (especially our own ones) we tend to go slightly overboard, most commonly even assigning a whole building or even building ground with large gardens. While such embassies exist, they are most commonly found only between major countries, or perhaps due to a colonial past etc. Any two medium sized countries (think below 50 mil) that are not even situated on the same continent will usually not have that much demand for diplomatic office space that it would require a whole building. Of course in the end many other factor play into this as well, aside from the wealth and desire for representation of the represented country the general city shape will play into it as well. In the real world, dense European old town centres will be much less inviting for free standing embassy buildings than new world planned capitals such as Washington D.C. or Brasilia, or cities with generally low property prices such as developing countries. But nevertheless, I think I might go back one day and readjust both some Kojolese embassies abroad (coordinating with the respective mappers) and foreign embassies in Pyingshum.

Hi, OGF-friends!

I need to read opinions of yours about one thing I am thinking last days.

Looks like Itacolomi is so big to Cariocas Islands. There are viaducts, a lot of urban buses terminals, football (soccer) stadiums, etc. Still there are other “big” cities in the country, like Gragoatá and Piratiba, but the “problem” now is focused in Itacolomi.

Currently I am editing Barra da Grama but my plans to 2017 in OGF are about re-creating Cariocas, my first country here.

So, I would not like to simply delete Itacolomi. I am thinking about “transfer” the map to Luslandia, another country I have but not so well mapped yet.

More exactly to Leopoldina, in capital metropolitan area, but obviously with not so much indigenous names.

And, after this, rebuild Itacolomi, but not the same size, and all the metropolitan towns in the area. And the rest of the country, hehehe…

Would be this a good idea?

Abraços a todos! Bruno Moreira

Can someone pleeaaassseeee help me? or at least send me some sort of tutorial that explains how to do it well? Its REALLY STARTING TO ANNOY ME that i cant get these dumb relations correctly. I have created relation deleted them, left out things, etc… i think it need cleaning by a proffessional. Not me. I cant even map river realistically.

I think i have badly messed up the neighboring countries rleations aswell, so @Nikolia i a, sorry if i did so.

It constantly shows up as just a separate country or some weird sh*t.

Salut,

https://discord.gg/E4UN5bs

You are an English-speaking user? No problem, you can also chat on this server! ;)

J’espère que ça vous plaira et à plus sur notre site favori (OGF bien sûr ^^ )

Bye !

Hello, dear OGF-community. After a hard time in life, I am looking forward to get active in OGF again. At the moment I am working solo on an own country, which is still located in Commonia, but which I want to move later on. I can’t really promise to finish it and so I thought, it would be a good idea to create it in Commonia, instead of having an own territory and then never finish it. Today is was busy at reworking the Malinton Delta in Gobrassanya (May still need some time to update). What do you think about it?

Regards, Bstn

http://i.imgur.com/7vHzvw1.png # Community-owned vs. privately-owned collaboratives

From this point forward, we wish to introduce some collaboratives that are community-owned, where ‘admin’ is listed as the owner and will appoint a user (or users) to serve as the territory’s coordinator(s).

A coordinator for a community-owned collaborative:

  • must develop the territory for the benefit of the community, working as a team with other active mappers there;
  • cannot make the territory private, closed, etc;
  • should find ways to include any well-qualified mappers who wish to participate;
  • will consult with admin before any major changes (decisions can be vetoed by admin); and
  • may be replaced by admin if necessary.

Official vs. unofficial collaboratives

In addition to distinguishing between community-owned and privately-owned collaboratives, we will also distinguish between official and unofficial collaboratives.

Behold, here comes my first actually quite useful diary entry…

I implemented a Level0 Editor on my server (Thanks Thilo for the DNS-Entrys) and wanted to share with you how it can be useful.

How to use the Level0 editor to rename things

So, who doesn’t know this, you set up a something, in my example a town, define it’s adminstrative boundarys, name roads after it and use the name in quite a lot of other things. After a while you think that this name doesn’t really fit anymore and you decide it needs a new one. The previous way was to wrangle with the bare .osm-files of JOSM, but now there is a much better way!

Step 1: Using Overpass to find stuff that contains the name

First you need to identify where the name is used so you zoom in on your country on the Overpass-Turbo, here you insert the name like this: ogf1.png

The name: tells the overpass API to look inside all name keys for your name, in my case it would find “Stadtwald Allerswarte” as well as “Allerswarter Verkehrsgesellschaft”.

I finished the first city of my new state of Teberia yesterday and I think that I can be a bit proud of my work if I compare it to other’s first cities :)

The city is called Polgiana and it has a somewhat mediterranean style. It wont be the largest city of Teberia, but maybe the second largest after it’s capital, which I will start in the next days.

I hope you like it :D

The eastern part of the city of Solsburg in western Utterland is beginning to take shape. It has a fortress, Fort Merken, which is glowering west, across the water at Fort Solsburg. The two fastnesses used to belong to two different and hostile factions. The western faction tried to cross the river many a time, but always ran up against the ramparts of Fort Merken. These are now clad in parkland, but the riverside street, De Bierkaai, is an obscure reference to this animosity. Fighting “De Bierkaai” means engaging in a futile battle, which you’ll never win.

Hello, I’m very sorry for my inactivity. I’d like to communicate that henceforth, Vinnmark is a collaborative country, mostly due to the fact that I’m having some health problems + school, so even though I’m still into Vinnmark, I don’t have much time for mapping, and I don’t want to lose it.

If you’re interested in mapping Vinnmark, you should know that there are some requisites.

  • Don’t map further east than Berles, as a gulf is going to be mapped there.
  • Names must look Swedish or Danish.
  • Try to keep the Netherlands in mind, with channels, dams and others.
  • The southern part of the country should have SOME French names.

If you are interested in contributing, start when you want, but message me when you are going to start.

Best regards.

My very brief summary of my own work on last month’s challenge: I didn’t do it. I thought about it. Does that count?

The problem, of course, is that I decided I wanted to have the Topo layer complete before beginning work on Comala. That became an impossibly huge project, as my contour-drawing mania started to encompass the surrounding region.

Anyway, Comala will eventually be mapped, and it will have no motorways.

How did everyone else do?

Luciano’s Mapper’s Challenge #12 - March, 2017 - Ghosts on the Map

This month’s challenge is a more manageable scale. It comes from Thilo.

He suggested “mapping things that aren’t there anymore.”

This is a common enough aspect of urban geography. This article (Los Angeles Times) is a good introduction to the issue in the context of North American urbanism. In Europe, you can find the outlines of ancient Roman amphitheaters, for example.

Some users have done this already, in OGF. There’s joschi81’s former railway station converted into a concert hall, in Tarott. I placed a “former railroad right-of-way” when I mapped the area surrounding the Irhoborin Refugee Settlement in Duvar, which can just barely be made out on the map (look for “Rail Street”).

So this month’s challenge is to map something that isn’t there anymore. Use your imagination, think about the history of your territory, and go for it.

Since I’m working on Comala, I think I might place a small, abandoned pre-Colonial city “under” the modern Ardispherian city. I was planning on approaching the city at least semi-historically (not at rigorously as user Pawl has been doing, but a similar concept). So I will draw a plan and place some buildings for the pre-Colonial city in a layer for Comala, which rather than uploading, I’ll just keep for reference as I develop the city.

Happy mapping.
