Hello fellow mappers, Since I started mapping I loved the OGF Wiki and especially the stat lists, something inside me loves checking which countries got the highest GDPs or murder rates. The thing is that we don't have many of these lists, so I'm bringing some ideas, hope you like them:
- List of countries by average wage
- List of countries by unemployment rate
- List of countries by housing type (houses, flats...)
- List of countries with paid maternity leave
- List of countries with universal healthcare
- List of failed states
Some of them have already been labeled.
Hello, fellow mappers.
I'm writing this to warn you that I've got new plans for Vinnmark.
First of all, I'm creating a big bay just like Lake IJsselmeer in the Netherlands, which will include an island in it.
I'm also changing the frontiers as I don't like how Vinnmark looks on the map, so I'll cut off some parts of it and keep them as 'unclaimed territories' so other neighbouring countries can claim them as part of their territory or either someone wants to make them his own country.
Lake Laika is going to be swollen by the sea so that the future city of Odense (which will be similar to Rotterdam in its structure) will be connected to the sea.
Thank you all really much for keeping our country Vinnmark alive.
I've got some ideas for you. I've realised that kind of peninsula where the city of Vinn is, looks much like Northern Holland, also that zone where the city of Köln is reminds me of Friesland. So what about mapping a chain of narrow, inhabited islands just like the West Frisian Islands? It would look great!
Best wishes, Halvard.
Hello, I'm very sorry for my inactivity. I'd like to communicate that henceforth, Vinnmark is a collaborative country, mostly due to the fact that I'm having some health problems + school, so even though I'm still into Vinnmark, I don't have much time for mapping, and I don't want to lose it.
If you're interested in mapping Vinnmark, you should know that there are some requisites.
- Don't map further east than Berles, as a gulf is going to be mapped there.
- Names must look Swedish or Danish.
- Try to keep the Netherlands in mind, with channels, dams and others.
- The southern part of the country should have SOME French names.
If you are interested in contributing, start when you want, but message me when you are going to start.
I've been since a month ago with this idea around my head. What about creating a gulf on the southeastern part of the Vinn sea? The gulf would give Esthensia and Vinnmark bigger coastlines, as well as creating a Denmark shaped peninsula where Welstand-Westrijk and Shilesia are, so they would gain a coastline (pretty interesting if they want to fully integrate in the Vinn Sea community) , they would significantly increase their territory and they would lose these artificial-looking frontiers which look really odd in a region that seems to be inspired by Old Europe. Vinnmark's new coastline would look a bit like the east coast of Sweden, with lagoons and pretty detailed islands, and I would be able to connect Berles to the sea (make it look like Stockholm and Helsinki mixed together).
The image features a basic scheme of how would it look, of course we would improve it a lot.
So what do you think?
Greetings. I've been thinking about some stuff about Vinnmark's history I'd like to share with you. During the 14th century, Vinnmark experienced its 'Golden age' and its territory occupied the now called: Clethmor (Klaitmör) Southclist (Söedige), Lanland (Lånland), Colensy (Klensk) in Wesmandy; Ventria ; Welstand-Westrijk; Shilesia (Sålskat); that big unnamed territory next to Vinnmark and some small parts of Esthensia. These regions later claimed Independence or were invaded by the countries they now belong to, but may still have some little Vinnish-speaking minorities. As you may know, the Vinnish far-right leader Blauer who invaded several countries, actually wanted to re-conquer the old Great Vinnmark.
What do you think? This is a map of how that Great Vinnmark looked like :
Not long ago, I read an entry about websites in OGF. That gave me an idea.: Why not making them real?
I remembered I have an un-used website, it's called Kooper.tk , and I tried to make a social network there. We can use it to make real websites with OGF-related content. We can make functional websites or just plain landing pages looking like real websites.
Just for fun. I don't think why someone would like to read a website about how great life in Kalm is or one about how to move to Ostermark, but it can be pretty exciting to build a life-like website about your country, with even your own country domain.
Your own country domain
An OGF website address would look like "http://kooper.tk/livinginvinnmark" , but you can link to it as livinginvinnmark.vk.
Is it a good idea? Would you collaborate?
Comment below, please.
How can I get a grey map (one of these used to show the location of countries, just like in Wikipedia)?
Can I actually edit the topo map and make it look like a real topo map?
I rememebered yesterday a page on the wiki or an article on the User Diaries that gave a bunch of country names and said if they were relevant on the world or not, and also a sample sentence like "Spiders? We have them, but we don't care".
I can't find it!!
I mapped a big number of island on a lake in Vinnmark, but when I'm going to upload the changes, a weird error message pops out.
"OSM server does not know about an object that you tried to read, update or delete."
I don't know what's wrong with that but I worked hard on it.
What can I do?
Vinnmark's capital city, Berles, is now open for collaboration. After I finished the basic schema of the city, you can now collaborate on the city.
*You can map inside the circle formed by the bigger highway.
*The northern part of the city should have nordic looking names.
*The southern part of the city should have french looking names.
*It's inspired in European cities so the central part must be old-looking and the outskirts should be modern neighbourhoods.
*Don't map too big.
*Take in mind it's a 1.3 million-people city.
Thanks for reading ;)
I found an old map where the area now occupied by Vinnmark, Welsrik and others; is named as Bayland. I've also found some info about Bayland in this page List of countries by economic statistics
I want to know as much as possible about that former country.
Tomorrow I will start editing it again. I'm going to edit the coastline in Vinnmark so I will create two big gulfs in the east and west part of the country. It is going to affect Wesmandy and Isztianország, because they will have a bit more kilometres of coastline and they should enlarge their frontiers so they will own a part of the sea.
Translate to the language of Vinnmark. http://lingojam.com/English-Vinnishofficialtranslator
Do you think a blog for articles we all can contribute in could be a good idea? I think articles like "The 10 best cities on OGF" don't have a place in the World News blog but we would like to have them.
Could you please translate Vinnmark to your countries' languages? http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/List_of_country_names_in_various_languages
Hello, I'm the owner of a territory named Vinnmark, located on the southeastern coast of the Vinn Sea. I'm building the new capital city, Berles, a city inspired by the cities of Amsterdam and Brussels, but as I'm a new user, I would like you to help me building it. I've read many articles about realistic cities but my cities always look like a bunch of non-sense streets, mostly because I don't make good motorways and that kind of. ... Would you like to help me building some streets, just streets in the city of Berles? This is the location: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/56.2588/44.5615
