The Miss Palaseskia competition is held every second week of June. Whoever wins the pageant gets to compete at the Miss (to be confirmed). The pageant use to be held on the third week of May from 1950 to 1962, then held on the last week of May from 1963 to 1988, then held on the first week of June from 1989 to 2003, and held on the last week of May from 2004 to 2016. Someone flooded Commonia.

After having watched the most recent video from Wendover Productions, I feel that this video will probably be useful for those wanting to space your towns and cities properly, if not locate them, especially if your country was made before cars even existed.

I would try and explain it, but I do not think I can deliver that video justice, since he is able to explain it in much better words than I can.

While surfing the map I noticed strange archipelago in the extreme south of Hesperic ocean (70 degrees south latitude!). They are not marked by “UNDER CONSTRUCTION, DO NOT EDIT” sign, so they are not neither Kartumia nor Tarephia, and also the islands are much more detailed than western continents.

This and this mappers have already build sth like settlements (with beaches, lol, at 70° S. lat.). What do you think about it?

Greetings fellow mappers, it’s time for another quick-build for this month.

Many of us have created fantastic detailed stadiums in our cities for many sports. But teams need training facilities too, so that’s the aim of this months CBC:

Build a training facility for your sports team(s). These will usually be located out of a city for privacy. You might want to include:

• At least two pitches, possibly more
• Small grandstands so that second and youth team matches can be played
• Refectory, gymnasium and storage facilities for the team
• Offices
• Parking and delivery areas
• Access roads and gates

For some inspiration, here’s Southampton FC’s Staplewood campus facility: https://binged.it/2j4bAIh . You can see at least four pitches plus a training field and other areas. The whole site is enclosed by trees and hardly visible from the main road (I drive past every week) to prevent telephoto lenses capturing what the team are doing.

I missed any conference that was done with OGF due to my location in the United States and lack of funds. But I would love to make a video blog about Pretany, and would love to see if others can do the same. Possibly put the video on the Wiki, or paste a link to it on this diary entry through Youtube or twitter. I think it would be a great way to explain each country verbally, and tell a little about the creators themselves. In the video, you would explain your country, your place in OGF, how you fit into the world, and tell a little about yourself. Also if you are tech savvy, add screenshots of your country into the video as you are speaking. Maybe make the video anywhere from 5-10 minutes long.

I was fascinated by the story of the Catacombs of Paris and how they came to be. There was once a cemetery in Paris known as the Cemetery of the Innocents that I plan to recreate an OGF version of in St. Richards. It was so full of bodies that they didn’t fully decompose and they used large fat deposits for soap. That got me thinking of an organized plague that could have ravaged our world at one time and how that could have effected our histories. I would like some input on this from other members to see what they think. It could be one plague, or a series of them. How would it have affected the population of the planet, and to what extent? I’m planning to add an OSRM-based routing service to OGF, but due to the fact that a lot of people don’t connect their highways with the ones of the neighboring countries there are a lot of so called “routing islands”. Also there are some problems with motorways, the best are the ones that are really oneways and have proper tagging at the junctions (highway=motorway_junction), otherwise stuff like this happens: http://imgur.com/a/EVaGr [These were just random markers placed on the map, no one should feel bad/called out/blamed by these pictures] If i should test your highways in advance just leave a comment.

You see this is my first time mapping on OGF and I can’t find the blue areas where I can edit and I don’t know how to do anything :/. Messing around by trying to add roads and whatnot (lots of fails up ahead) can teach me otherwise help will be appreciated.

Hello!

It’s been nearly a year since I joined OGF. I’ve made (I think) a huge progress - from overscaled town somewhere in Gobrassanya, thru Antharia, which I wasn’t really happy with to Shilesia, to which i moved after dropping Antharia (currently the country is owned by stjur who’s doing a great job, keep it up!). And after at least 5 redevelopments of my country I am satisfied with how it looks. Now, what are my plans for future:

• Expanding Ligota so it doesn’t look like it was cut in half, BUT not making it the biggest city in the world (it might happen, as i live in the biggest metropolitan area of my country, AND I love big cities), I will try to keep it maybe on 500k citizens maybe.
• Adding some mountains and rivers to the country - don’t have any particular concept yet, but we’ll get to that.
• Expanding wiki coverage - that means: writing more about companies in Shilesia, maybe an international organisation with headquarters in Ligota (I think i’ve got an idea for that). Besides that, I want also to focus on history, so it will make sense AND will be compatibile with the history of other nations in the region.
• More involvment in Midistland, recently I’ve been doing something here, but I think that the country needs more details and good mapping (by this I mean “not newbie-messups”).
• The biggest Shilesia-related project is currently the Shilesian railway company, I plan on making a few long-distance international connections (I plan for it to be the competition for flights from Ligota-Alfred Airport). I also want to make at least one short article for every station in Shilesia (a bit like it’s done on Polish Wikipedia, where every station, even the least important one in some eastern-polish village is covered) with a basic timetable (company, stations, frequency, rolling-stock).

Hello Guys!

Hope you all have a great 2017, and that you do things that no one has ever done!

I only joined officially in like October, but i believe i have made huge progress (as well as mistakes) when working within Litvania. I have worked primarily on roads, railways, small towns, larger towns and a city, and geography. All these i believe have improved my skill in editing the Opengeofiction maps, as well as using them for editing OSM (i also contribute there).

I would like to thank certain people for there special efforts to help me and to help me understand certain things here at OGF.

@eklas - You helped me alot with getting Litvania into JOSM, which i was really happy about, however now things are okay, and it works when downloading and editing areas from the OGF map. You also did a great deal at the beginning, when i only joined, you sent me links to FAQ’s, you answered certain questions etc… I am really greatful for all your efforts in helping me to get accustommed to OGF.

@Luciano - You helped me with the video you posted on Youtube about how to use JOSM with OGF. It did great help, and now i know how to use JOSM a bit more.

@Demuth - You welcomed my concession idea, which i was expecting to be rejected violently by most other people.

Everyone else who helped me with thise magical site i am really thankful to, as a year before now, i was starting tomthink about creating one myself.

So yeah, thanks to you all. I am really appreaciative, and greatful for all you efforts.

Hi out there, fellow map-o-holics!

it’s been a pretty short year, and many of you brought forward their OGF countries a lot in those 365 days. Me not, unfortunately. I was inactive for at least 75% of the year and Norðurland still is a quite empty country. This country is so freakin’ huge (well, I knew this in the first place…), I guess it will take years to fill it up with life to a satisfying amount. And the more I work with OGF and the more I come to the details, the more I recognize how hard I struggle with those details.

However, I was more active in the last quarter of the year. And for 2017, I hope that I will spend more hours here with you than last year. I admire your creativity - lots of ambitious projects on the map and beside. So beautiful to see such an active, friendly, thriving and creative commutinty evolve! We have a real nice project here (If you didn’t recognized so far ;-) ).

During the last month, I mostly fixed errors from very early edits (still way more to fix here) and refined things that were roughly sketched in the first place. I finally started do work on Norðurland’s still very edgy coastline with the help of a graphics tablet, GIMP and Inkscape. Things move on slowly, but they move.

At the moment, I follow 2 larger projects:

• Coast refinement in north-eastern Norðurland, with many fjords, islands and lakes

• Since today, Norðurland is a little bit smaller, because there is a new citizen in town: the country with the ineffable name of Ruhtinaskunta Yleväkivet (the principality of Yleväkivet) lies between Norðurland and Slavonia. The spoken language is Vinnic. This language is the remains of an older, mostly dead or further evolved language family that was spoken around the Vinn sea. Vinnic is based on - surprise - Finnish.
