After my town of Manniton has been relocated to AR120-33j from what is now AR909, I’ve been fiddling with some infrastructure integration work. I think this has been mostly accomplished by now and I’ll resume focusing on continuing to map the ins and outs of Manniton now.

On that note, I have a few general things I should investigate eventually. Comments and propositions on any of these are, of course, welcome.

  • ICAO codes for airports (for this civilian airport)
  • Religion demographics (for this place of worship)
  • Properly mapping public transportation (primarily bus lines; I’ll check OSM later for reference)
  • General checklist for what public infrastructure (medical, police, education, administrative, etc.) a town would need to double-check if I got everything covered.

That’s it for now. Have a neat 2020, everyone!

When I start Adalia I have planned English states at the south and Hispanic states on the north. But the proprietary of Espetrantio,in my south border is mapping in Spanish, while the proprietary of Elixity, in the north one ,is mapping in English. Viewing this situation, it makes more sense have the Hispanic zones in the south and the English at the north. While I don’t have much mapping, if it exists a moment to change the nouns is now.

What do you think? I must change it?

Looks like the newer backup files are severely broken after the date mentioned above, so much so that an attempt to extract Rhododactylia (and possibly quite a few other places) returns a completely empty .osm file. Is this everyone else’s experience as well?

I converted the whole file (from 2019-12-31) and I will see what I actually get, but it is taking a while to load up in JOSM.

Hey everybody in the OGF Community. I have something to propose. Since i wrote a diary about the GauGAN Nvidia software, i recieved a commented which sounded about like this;”We could make an OGF-street view”. I noticed it and it sounded really interesting.

Obviously it would be impossible to streetview all of OGF, it would require software and hardware and is somewhat patented by Google, if I’m not wrong.

So i thought about creating an “OGF:Landview” article on the wiki, so we could put a leaflet “slippy map” on the article and create some dots you can click on which would then show an image of the desired place.

There are already articles with these things, but not the same content, such as the EUOIA article with the dots of capitals of countries.

What do you think, could it be a smart thing to visualize your country?

Feel free to comment

  • Sincerely, Theruler.

Hi all,

At the moment I am mapping out a mountainous region of my country and as I was editing a lake with grassland into a large forest area, I exceeded the 2000 node limit. So, I tried to split the forest area into two to reduce to the node count, but I’ve obviously made a mistake and caused most of the forest area to disappear.

This problem has extended beyond my country’s’ borders so I would really appreciate assistance with this and I’m unsure how to correct it.

Regards, Arlo.

I think there should be another opengeoficiton site (earth.opengeofiction.net?) that is the real planet earth but includes only natural features. That way, we can colonise our actual earth. The borders of countries will be maintained but can be altered by virtual wars. Country names would be the same as their real world equivalent but people are encouraged to change them after getting posession of the territory.

This would be a lot more fun then OpenGeoFiction; more of alternate universe. It would also be interesting to visit your creations in real life.

There are probably some people who have heard of GauGAN, a program developed by NVIDIA.

It is an AI-powered engine which makes landscape, of your choice, based on millions of photos of geography.

It works like paint, you paint some things on it, click on a button, and boom it becomes a landscape.

It is an online program.

Right now, GauGAN is open for demo.

This means that y’all have access to making unique landscape with tools such as clouds, mountains, hills, water and rivers, to perfectly match your mapping.

Note that GauGAN is AI, so it may be confused at some things you draw, for example if you detail it too much.

Note that this is not an advertisement, but rather a reminder for people wanting to create unique landscape eventually for a wiki article.

Demonstration

I actually made this landscape. This is a demo for some local hills and mountains.

Hi everyone. I’m Martinawa, owner of Adaria, and recently I’ve been involved in a project regarding the topography of my country, eventually uploading into the topo layer the a contour map on the whole country. I’m not here to talk about my work, though, but the topo layer itself.

I’ve been enjoying my time with the topo layer in Adaria, and I have the feeling that working on a topo map for the OGF Topo Layer is a very intensive but satisfying work. Sadly it’s work that often goes unnoticed by many mappers, either because they don’t pay attention to the layer itself, or because topo edits don’t show up on the OGF edit history (as they are actually not edits on OGF themselves), and I think it’s a shame that many topo layers go completely unnoticed because they only cover small terriories. (As an example, I didn’t know until today that there was a topo layer map of Udilugbulgidhu’s Hesperis

I’d like to suggest the admins (and to an extent to the whole of the community), that this layer should have a little bit more of a presence into the OGF world, as it can become an essential tool for worldbuilding if well used. For example, keeping a kind of “history list”, with the edits made in the topo layer would be useful for those looking for inspiration, and also a chance for the users who made their topos to feature them and get feedback.

I know that user Luciano has been for now the go-to source for everything about the topo layer, but it’s a shame that there’s only one person to go to when wanting to ask about how to make such a thing. I’m of course willing to collaborate into making the Topo section of the OGF map a more comprehensive and motivating place for people to start adventuring themselves, but I’m sure more people could give their insights in topography if that part of the map was to be “easier to notice”.

Happy Mapping,

Martinawa.

Was browsing the web and stumbled on an old OGF tab. I decided to try my hand at mapping one more time.

I need help though. Not with mapping, I’m fine with that. It’s about getting a territory. I tried many, many times to request a territory, but the answer was always “keep trying, make it bigger,” etc. etc. Now it has become much harder since the implementation of the new territory system to get a territory. What should I do?

Edit: I just noticed that UL303 has been claimed. :,( Are there any available territories consisting of a small peninsula and some small islands? (Can be anywhere, but preferably around a temperate region). Thanks in advance!

Okay so this is a bit of a stretch, but I need help finishing Ykphane in the lines of Zoning and creating a capital district of the city. Honestly, I would also like help with a larger project that is the coast line of Aracadiana. I’m half tempted to open up my nation to more mappers but I also am scared of losing progress. So if anyone is interested in these following projects please message me:

  • Ykphane (Capital District )
  • H5, H5W, H6, H10
  • Districts/Oblasts
  • Coast Line (More Islands)
  • Villages along Route 41 (Islands)
  • H49 Corridor
  • H7 Northern Terminus near Emedekee Basin
  • Route 27 Removal
  • Route 88 Removal
  • Route 73 / H7 Interchange Removal

…

If you couldn’t tell by the list, I have trouble finishing projects.

I recently built the football (soccer) stadium for a Federal States league team I plan to add for Sierra.

https://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/-32.65884/140.76660

It’s presently called the Meadowbrook Park, but wondering if anyone has a business to sponsor it. I like the current name, but it would fit in better like a sponsor name (most U.S. stadiums seem to have one).
