I have decided that that will be my theme for my nation. What are the physical themes for this area, like roads, building size, etc. and what features are most common in these areas? What are some of your observations.

After Wyster’s recent expansion I ended up in discussions with neighbours about the creation of transnational trade routes. This lead to the initial mapping of the harbour of Reegyth. One thing lead to another and soon I was doing an unscheduled revamping of the harbour front of Wyster’s original southwesternmost city of Cervirc, giving ferry destinations their own exits, and adding other details. This lead to the recreation of the Central Station area, and before I knew it I was adding buildings to the city, with Aalborg and Copenhagen (Denmark) as well as Halifax (NS, Canada) as examples. I am not unsatisfied with the result.

I can add more detail (hotels, restaurants, shops, more schools, etc) and I plan to change other things in Cervirc (some items I mapped a few years ago already when I was still new on OGF), but now my eyes hurt so I should work on something less detailed first :)

Question :

Can you import OSM building and change the shop? It seems helpful for making realistic-shaped buildings or houses Is it against the rules to do that , because it is with Islands?

Canary Corner is kind of my ‘Babby’s first town’. I’ve tried to emulate some towns in the central valley of California, particularly Modesto.

I’ll admit what I’ve produced is honestly only kind of started. I’ve only really finished the downtown area, which is admittedly a lot smaller than what Modesto actually has. My main goal is to finish up the outer areas, where a lot of residential areas are.

I know Adobe is basically killing off Flash and Flash browser support later this year. I wanted to ask, I’d presume it’s not run/coded by anyone on OGF, but do we know if there’s any sort of transition plan for Potlatch 2 or a similar replacement since it basically runs on Flash? I know that some formerly Flash-reliant programs are were switching to HTML or something that is still supported, but I haven’t seen anything like that for Potlatch 2 when I looked it up.

Keep in mind I DO USE JOSM FOR MOST EDITS. So this isn’t the time to respond “you should be using JOSM and you wouldn’t have this problem”. There are just certain functions I find easier to use Potlatch 2 for, especially with quick edits where I can easily compare scale between tabs, and sometimes JOSM snaps to things in a way that can make it harder to get the “loose precision” I need at times. It’s just a nice option to have.

is there any kind of editor I can use for things like ferry routes and other large-scale things (National parks, large forests, rivers, maybe even some long motorways.) I’m just curious if there is because potlatch 2 doesn’t work for me and (As you probably know) the default one requires you to zoom in to 1,000 feet scale. is there anything I can do to make these things easier?

In Point Fern I’ve started to think my scale is too small , so i checked on scale tool and saw that my buildings were tiny and started to rebuild but this envolved more deleting than anything else and i’m wondering wether my new scale is right or not

First off: I really want to express my thankfulness on Histor’s work on it’s own Histor style map. But that being said, I also want to open a debate on the style itself and which direction it could go, which might be controversial: what about a complete overhaul of the Histor style based on the current standard mapnik style? Back in the days, I assume Histor style used to be a derivative of the then standard mapnik style, but with extra features such as ports, railroad differentiation, i.e. all things the standard map style lacks. But then the standard style had a complete redesign, and the Histor style didn’t follow and kept the old style. And now, Histor is editing the style to fix the problems the old style had, and which is exactly the reason why mapnik itself changed to its new style too. But the problem with that is, with all respect, the current Histor style seems a bit… amateurish. And that’s normal, because the new standard mapnik style probably took a ton of work by a lot of different people to get at the point it is now.

Hi everyone,

even if my city is not completely mapped yet, I invite anyone interested in placing the embassy for his/her Country. I’m not planning to create an “embassies quarter” quarter, so feel free to place it wherever you like in the city (just keep them in the central quarters, please). You can freely choose to use an existing building or map a new one.

I only ask you to write here what you are doing, just to keep trace of your work.

In the meantime, every feedback about my mapping of the city would be appreciated.

I was working on harca and looking around and noticed it was renamed to trifinia for some reason. I don’t know how to rename it and am just wondering why it was renamed. hope this is the right place to post this.

I need your help, I got stuck with 200+ objects in conflict with my previous upload, for unknown reason. Now I have a large upload I want to send, but JOSM is blocked because of the conflicts. Is there a way to solve them all and tell JOSM “just send my version of everything and overwrite” ? I don’t want to lose my mapping but I just can’t solve conflicts one by one.

Or is there another solution like deleting the whole zone (let’s say a city), upload it as deleted, and re-copy-paste the new data from my faulty OSM file ?

What is the most practical solution to deal with huge amount of conflicts ?

I thought these colour-coded maps may be worth a share, particularly if your street organization happens to be all over the place at present. For one thing you can see the logic used behind certain terms like “Drive”. Also it would be interesting to create some areas within a city with different naming systems, possibly to reflect historical growth and influences.

so I’ve just made these islands in the middle of the Cruzando delta. I’ve done my best on these, but they still don’t really look like anything you might see in real life. Does anyone have any advice on how to spruce them up a bit?

I’ve seen something weird go on with the site. I can’t load any of the tiles, which is a big issue because I wanted to work on my OGF territory. I know some people in the unofficial discord having problems with this, but nobody has reported on the user diaries. I hope this gets fixed somehow, because people need to see the OGF map.

After many years in which the number of my geofictional projects steadily grew (I have several more outside OGF) and the available time I have for them slowly decreased, I decided that I needed to do some cleaning and rearranging, so 2020 is becoming the Year of the Broom.

For OGF this meant that I wanted to focus on one territory instead of two remote and unrelated ones, and perhaps having a smaller total of land would help too, so I proposed to the admins to swap places and abandon my SW Archantan country Xsegunis (formerly Řots) in exchange for the often unoccupied UL040 as an expansion of my other country Wyster in Eastern Uletha. This has happened thus.

As for Xsegunis/Řots: I have no idea what will happen to it but if you see it slowly disappearing, it doesn’t mean that I have left OGF myself. I made back-ups of the OGF Wiki pages of these countries btw, so if they need to be deleted, this is now possible.

In the meantime my focus is on expanding and developing Wyster. I already wrote the addition of a piece of land the size of Slovenia (I think) into its history and made a set-up of the new counties and infrastructure. I also decided to use the opportunity to review the grammar of Wystrian; so far nothing has changed but perhaps I will alter the verb system. For the rest I have no big plans.

I have a proposal for blue countries and wiki article stuff.

Blue countries tend to have a mix of every culture, nearly non-coherent, non-consistent.

Therefore i think we could make them non-canon, and instead for describing specific places included in the blue countries as “fictional” countries. Countries not on the map, but used on the wiki to make things more sense.

Commonia, for instance, is a mix of every native tongue new users have.

This does not make sense if there is a german country describing a chinese district just across the border.

Instead, non-mapped, wiki-filler, and coherent “countries” could be described on the wiki.
