I’ve started a wiki page for an international organization called the “Developing Nations Forum” which is open to all low-income/developing countries.

The main point of the organization is really just so we can get a sense of which countries are low-income/developing and where they’re located, so anyone with this type of country should please go ahead and add it to the member list.

There’s also a list of former members, so if your country may have been considered low-income/developing anytime since 1968 (but not today) you can choose to add it there instead.

Thanks!

I’ve been on OGF for about two or three months now. I got my own country about a month and a half ago, and have been building there since. I’ve been looking at what i have built and been thinking to myself “Am I doing this right?” I’ve also been looking at the structure of real-world countries, and been trying to mimic them, but it doesn’t feel “right”. It feels like i’m doing something wrong… Maybe you guys can help. My Country is Caspilinia. Yokimpia needs some work done on it, and there is a village “Fronteira” where the three countries border to the mid-west near a mountain. I’ve been using Potlatch as my editing tool.

Elhadia (former location of Karolia) is now open for any user to edit. However, please consult with me before making any big changes like new cities and large objects.

You can read about the country’s history and other background here: http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Elhadia. Elhadia is an ex-Karolian colony and had a dictatorship following independence. The flavour of the map will be sub-Saharan Africa, a mixture of European colonial, traditional West African and Arab influences. Language is invented but should sound African.

The country is mostly desert, with some mountains in the north, and a little savannah and tropical forest close to the coastline. Many rivers and lakes are seasonal, there are also salt pans and oasis.

The main industries are the mining of iron ore, coal, copper and gold, as well as some rare metals like tantalum (used to make smartphones) and uranium. Agriculture growing fruits and goat herding are still widely practiced.

Elhadia is one of the poorest countries in the world and the infrastructure should reflect this. There are no motorways and only a few dual-carriageway highways around the main cities. Country roads are only in good repair when used by mining vehicles regularly. Railways are almost all used for freight. There are shanty towns and slums surrounding all main cities. Please, please, don’t slap yet another USA grid city with skyscrapers and motorway tunnels and a subway here, it doesn’t belong. There are a few modern buildings, even quite tall ones, in the capital, but mostly post-colonial layout of cities (which will mean a grid, just with a small block size)

Any small objects left from the old Karolia can be deleted.

Well, i have claimed the country (and admin accepted it). What do i have to do now? Do i need to make a region covering all of the country? Because i see that my neighboor did it. Also, i think i have to change name of my country. How to do this? I can’t find point which may display the name “UL033c”, so i can’t change it. That’s all for now. Sorry for bad English ;) .

Having been unsatisfied with my previous attempts at drawing the capital, which all desceneded into grid-madness, I’ve started building the city using the historical progression method similar to the way Wesmandy is going. As such, here is Sadiemarkt ca. 1200-1350ish. I’ve only worked on the area within the city walls for the moment, as I wanted to get some opinions before I went too far. Future expansion plans put the central business district stretching from the current center (within the walls) out to Trakẙ de Carrighi̋sa (south of the walls)

For context, I’ve redesigned the terrain for the whole country, of course matching at the borders, but I haven’t redrawn things except around Sadiemarkt and Cape Aritsom (across the estuary and along the peninsula to the north), so thats why the rivers are broken to the west of the city and other terrain mismatches.

When I contribute to OSM one of the tasks I like to do is updating the transport data for a few cities in the UK. This is shown on the Transport Layer which shows bus routes and gives rendering priority to public transport infrastructure.

I don’t know how feasible it is to bring this feature into OGF? It would be nice to be able to add bus routes and have them render on the map.

Further to thilo’s announcement below, is there anyone in the UK who would like to take part in some kind of meet up in the coming weeks? Easter holidays are nearly upon us which means I at least will have some free days. Where is the most central geographical location we could use? Who can travel the most easily?

Alternatively we can have another Hangouts chat.

Earlier i noticed another user has designed a fort on the shore of Gobras City northeast of downtown that despite the coastline having been edited, these edits have not shown up after several days. I have even attempted to look at this coastline section to see if there was something missing in the attributes preventing it from updating. The coastline is contiguous with the other sections and is in the proper way direction. Is their some form of coastline update protection in place that is preventing this section of coastline data from being updated. .

thereshouldbeapicture Well, hi! I did this thing in open teritorry and (i put nearby city for comparition) completely broke the scale. Do i need to remove it? Because i kinda like how it looks, also it’s my first city. And other question - i know that I need a few more days to claim a country but i’m asking anyway: are “ER” “KA” “OR” and “PE” continents still in construction? If they aren’t, anyone knows when will they be allowed for building?

Sorry for my bad English, it’s not my native language.

histor, joschi81 and I are going to meet in Hamburg, Germany, on the weekend of April 23/24 to have a two-day workshop about all things Opengeofiction. Though we’re all members of the admin team, the focus of the meeting is intended to be on the geography, history and everything else related to our respective countries rather than on administrative issues.

Anyone interested to join us? We’d be more than happy to meet some other members of this community in person. If you’re interested, please let us know, the sooner the better.

I’ve been messing about in Carpathia and, since I’m very rail oriented, I decided to adopt the OpenRailway tagging system for my country. I stumbled upon this group as I was searching for a way of detailing my railway.

In practise I don’t think anything changes since our renderer cannot handle these kind of information. Either way, it’s just a way of tagging some aspects that are not traditionally shown or cared about.

They have their very own wiki page osm.wiki/OpenRailwayMap/Tagging

What do you guys thing of it?

This was discussed in the wiki but I was thinking if we could create a language group spanning Kojo, Hoppon, Belphenia and Paxtar based on the Hopponese, Nihonish and Kojolese languages. If possible we could create a birthplace for these languages if the surrounding users were okay with it, in Wiwaxia or Ataraxia also Wiwaxia, Ataraxia and Pasundan-Padjadjaran could have ethnic minorities who spoke a Pseudo-Japanese language.

I hope by creating this user diary we could create a name for this language group and establish a region were the “Proto-people” or pioneers of the original language lived. I wouldn’t want to put limits on any of my neighbors but would like if they could help with the possible formation of such a region into their early histories. Any country who wants to be included and is near the region feel free to add your own language. In fact you could be on another continent like Paxtar and can add to the language group. I don’t want to restrict anyone and just want to make a history.

For names I already have a few. Axian Language Group (Axian Peninsula)

Palian Language Group (Sound of Pa)

“Unnamed Peninsula” Language Group (Peninsula were Kojo, Belphenia, Orinoco, Xerneas and Hoppon are located on, the larger peninsula that the Axian Peninsula spurns from)

Paxian Language Group (Sound of Pa+ Axian Peninsula)

Soulethan Language Group (Southern Uletha although it is in SE Uletha)

Pre-word

Hello, so I think a proper introduction is at place, is it not? My name is Legendardisch, I traverse places like r/worldbuilding and Nationstates, I have come to learn about OGF via r/worldbuilding. So I like to write and build worlds. I had a lot of issues with JOSM but I have learned to do stuff in iD and Potlach 2. Currently I am working on my fictional nation Legendardisch inside of OGF.

First town

So the first town what worked on was Reinoud, a small town north of the capital, it was a playingfield for me, to try and understand the editors. There are some errors, but I will work on Reinoud later on

image of Reinoud

You can find Reinoud here , every building is hand drawn and most houses have a house number. Some other things I need to do is put in the municipal borders and suburbs/neighborhouds, But I haven’t grasped the whole relation system yet, but it will come!
