I think that shipping canals are quite an interesting feature, especially when it comes to locks. So here’s one I’ve been drawing today: Schleuse Blochfeld. It is part of Fora-Kelm-Kanal, the most important artificial inland waterway in Kalm and it connects to Kelm river and Kohnsee in the east and to Fora river north of Forberg in the west. It crosses a mid-sized mountain range and thus it is not a flat canal like Mittellandkanal in Germany, but more like Main-Donau-Kanal with a lock approx every 20 km.

Do you like such a map feature? And have you ever drawn locks in OGF?

Best regards joschi81

Any country who would like to add a factory for their company can add take a spot in the Winston Park Industrial Estate. The country does not have to contact me, it can freely take 1 spot in the park. If the country wants a second spot please contact me so I can approve it. Thank you http://opengeofiction.net/#map=14/28.7425/24.6026 Industrial Park here

Mercian Airways is looking for international destinations to call at. We are a mid-sized flag-carrying airline for the Kingdom of Mercia.

Route map

Wiki article

Please post below with airports at which Mercian Airways can begin to operate flights and if there are any airlines in your nation which would like to begin flights to Elmham International Airport.

Mercia is a small island nation so my model here is based on Malta, I am looking for medium-haul flights to regional and international hubs and for trade and business routes. Malta’s most far-flung destinations are Dubai, Moscow and Stockholm. I would like my flights to be restricted to the area shown in the route map. - Adam

Hi, I’m just wondering how to create large, complex and realistic road junctions without it looking crowded and clumsy? For me it’s 2 motorways passing through, and another terminating. 1 being the main highway towards the city centre going north/south, the other being a bypass that brings traffic in and out of the city going east-west. The terminating one being from the suburbs and a small town (Melton) that has been swallowed up by the expanding city (Ellmouth). It was previously 3, individual junctions in a relatively small space.

Do you think I should leave it as it is (a poorly planned disaster junction) or if and how I should clean it up?

Work is progressing on mapping the state. The topography/geography is a blend of the Southeastern US and some aspects of the Pacific coast blended in. I have purposely drawn the area about forty years behind in infrastructure as to have a historical look in nature as the area is being drawn.

The emphasis at this time is on mapping many of the rural areas and the suburban areas. The cities thus far have a low density.

QUARTA redraw project

For the next two weeks-month or so, Quentinsburgh’s subway system will probably look somewhat weird and unkempt on the maps. I have undergone a project to redraw all of the lines with more realistic and more uniform design, more elevated tracks and different rendering so that it appears more like it does in Gobras City and other cities with a well designed subway network. For a while you’ll see both the old ‘messed up’ tracks and the slowly appearing new uniform tracks next to each other- I plan to delete the old tracks after the entire system has been redrawn.

This project should make more express lines possible, make it so that you can tell what trains stop at a station just by looking at the map, make more extensions of track elevated (It’s unrealistic to have a train completely underground all the way into the suburbs) more realistic station platforms (side instead of center), eventually marked station entrances and less sharp curves. It should also allow for better designs of developments alongside the railway and better stations, especially for places like the Geolympiad complex. (The tram will likely be redrawn as well.)

Fixing proportion as my next project

After/alongside this project, my malls and retail may change quite a bit as I try to create more realistically sized retail in more locations. Similarly to the issue with my fast food restaurants a while ago that is also still in repair, most of my buildings were far too big and it will take work to size them down, especially at larger malls. However, this should also help open up more space for more parkland, more schools and more walkable neighborhoods.

Some of you probably saw my news article from a little over a month ago talking about Freedemian computer giant QuinTech going out of business and newer company Stepstone Technology taking over the market by storm. According to the story, Stepstone was allowed to buy out what was left of QuinTech.

However, it left me with a very empty market. I wanted to have it where the commission or whoever that approved the merger did it as it being approved, but ONLY if the computer market was opened up to more international and domestic technology companies.

Looking for other companies to enter the Freedemian Market

So far, Freedemia only “officially” sells 3 domestic companies’ phones and computers- Stepstone (and what was left of QuinTech) for personal computers, smartphones and tablets, Megamer Games with a single gaming phone, and Zenergy, (a fake Zenith for Freedemia) with a very beta smartphone, tablet and computer line with good hardware but a developing operating system. I wanted to be able to gain more international competition, especially by having other competing companies like the ones listed here like Catpaw Group, Saehan Group, Real Creative, and the Khaiwoonese companies not listed there KhaiTel and Bipjarat enter the Freedemian market to compete against my domestic companies.

Looking for other countries to sell Freedemian products

I was also hoping to find countries willing to partner with Freedemia’s Stepstone Technology and at least the gaming side of Megamer Games so that we could sell more products in an international market. I’d love to see Megamer Games especially become a more internationally known and enjoyed company, and Stepstone was already supposed to be selling internationally, but without any responses from other nations I wasn’t sure where to start.

So I took a decent break from OGF to do other things… along the way I got employed, and as I come back home from work, I find myself gradually pulling back towards OGF and my country of HIltonia.

That being said… someone please explain the ins-and-outs of drawing good looking waterways. My waterways make sense geographically generally, but I can’t get them to look right, especially in terms of deltas and things like islands and patterns like the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I don’t know how to really “draw” them in JOSM so that they look natural. It seems like everyone around me knows how to do it right.. but I find myself still unable to do it no matter how many real world examples I use.

Thanks and it’s good to be back here!

Hi there,

since a while I’ve been sporadically working on the city of Jaka, in addition to slowly expanding the neighbourhoods of the capital Pyingshum. The city centre of Jaka is largely inspired by the city of Amsterdam, and is supposed to be not car-free, but well… very unsuited for regular car use at least ;) However, I’ve run into an issue to the north of the historic centre, west of the central railway station. Here, a highway comes from the north, and some other major arterias are supposed to connect here to exchange traffic with each other and feed to/off the highway. It is however also situtated at a relatively large body of water, so that a “simple” single interchange is not very easy to realise. Im unsatisfied with the current layout, mostly because it involves a diagonal bridge and some weird 2-level constructions and ramps. Regarding the traffic flow it quite maches up with the picture I have in my head, but can you have a look at it and give me some creative feedback or tips to improve it? Thanks :)

P.S. If you look at the historic centre, you ‘ll see that the roads with the type “unclassified” mostly cover up the canals unless one zooms in to a very high level of detail. I’ve tested a different road type on 4 streches of road , which makes the canals much more visible and the street more distinguishable. Could you quickly mention what you think about this and which rendering you prefer and why :D?

The move of Karolia to Uletha is almost complete tonight with the Santjana area relocated. Downloading small chunks and merging the layers did the trick, and then carefully rescaling and rotating to the new area. There are still some joins to fix and the task of creating new crossings over the much wider water between the city and Osmila, but this is relatively simple work. Other areas of the country such as Kyor and Sebee I will redraw from scratch as there was so little in the old locations it doesn’t matter to lose the sketches.

Other changes: Saarmae islands are larger and more spread out, existing as isolated rocky prominences that are on the same bedrock as the Taamras. The mountain range needs to be explained by a nearby thrust fault that also caused the gulfs on either side to be created.

Darcodia and Ispelia now have a rather long stretch of coastline that their owners would be welcome to elaborate. There’s also plenty of potential for cross-border road and rail tunnels, and ferries. I would very much like to make all the land borders more realistic too, mostly in mountain areas.

The motorway network will be largely revised to take into account new geography and landscape, as will much of the rail lines. Rivers too, to a lesser extent.

Users with airline maps can now update these to show the new location of Santjana and Vasireii. I appreciate this will cause work for you all, but the move I feel is in the interests of the community and will result vastly better in historical and cultural coherence with the rest of the world. Nearby countries now have access to piles of music, Finira automobiles, SAI jets, and as many double vowels as you want.

The ‘old’ Karolia I propose to return to blank and remove the ways and cities. The coast will be simplified but without removing any shipping lines. it might be nice to have this area as a former Karolian colony, now a developing country.
