We can all agree that OGF is supposed to be like the real world, but does not have actual real-world features. And if something exists in the real world, we avoid having it in OGF.

But, it often happens that we just keep something in OGF, changing nothing but the name (example: German->Gaerman). So basically, we have an OGF version for almost everything, just with a different name. I think this has gone too far - we need to be more imaginative, more inventive, more creative!

For some reason, JOSM has decided to stop working. When I try to download the map from OGF, I get this popup.

Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Edit: It works fine now after I made the area slightly smaller. See the replies for more info, if you’re curious or having the same problem yourself.

May is close, and the biggest european tv show is on a countdown. I’ve already seen in OGF something called geovision, inspired by eurovision, but in an international way ( and it seems its forgoten). I believe this should be related to Western Uletha, as it seems is the OGF’s Europe. But I want to go in a real interesting competition. What if a real world country competing in Eurovision is assigned to a western ulethan country? Create a singer or band, and a song, but link its destiny to a real country. What you think about this ulethans? Should we choose a country or do it ramdomly in a raffle? It has sense to relate it to the vinnic comunity, and it requires creating a ulethan tv broadcast union. For this first broadcast we should find a host. (It can be given to the country related to Ukraine (this years host). Ulevision? Ulethavision?

Another way to enjoy Eurovision hahaha

I hope this helps in cutting costs for motorways, roads or whatever, because I know every meter costs a huge amount of money. There is some mathematics involved,

Here is a scenario: You have built up 4 towns (or buildings or whatever) and now you need to join them up. These 4 towns (or buildings in the picture) happened to form a square (let’s assume) 1 by 1 Kilometer or mile if you are British. A picture of the

Hi fellow mappers!

In the last couple of days I’ve mostly busied myself with building the Philipsson tram - see my bliki - but have also stumbled across several things on the wider web that may be of use to us all.

The first is an open-source program called Makehuman. As the name suggests, it is a 3D CAD software for creating models of people. There have been several discussions about the issues around using photos of real people on the wiki, and I think this may be an answer, as it allows the user to create quite realistic virtual people with great freedom over features, pose and other aspects. The program is also quite easy to use, and more experienced users can export the models into Blender for advanced editing. I will put up some examples on my bliki in due course.

The second is a (propitiatory) video game called Cities: Skylines. This is a detailed and seemingly highly realistic city simulator that can create very large metropolis areas with all the infrastructure, growth and economic issues town planners have to face. I am not suggesting that you all rush out and download the game, but watching some gameplay videos on YouTube might be a good introduction to the way physical map features massively affect how a city works. There was one where a user redid all his bus lines to make them serve the rail stations and his economy grew by a whopping amount because ti cut commuting times. Anyway, I’ve bought the game and intend to try and recreate some Karolian cities to see if they really ‘work’.

There are also some very informative YouTube videos on transport topics, such as ‘why are trains so expensive?’ (the answer is a surprisingly good one).

Stay tuned for an update on the tram model build.

Although Utterland is still a little bare, I’ve progressed to putting in a narrow-gauge railway system in the hilly south. The map shows black lines as the ZUS network, red the (at times rudimentary) mainline network, and green the international connections.

I have yet to map the capital city, Uisteren, as well as most of the towns on the network. Just wanted to see how it works.

Apologies, I can’t seem to get the image to display. Help.

So about a week ago I posted on here after I joined, saying I was making my first town. I decided to give a little update.

First of all, I came up with a name idea. I was thinking of calling the town Furstrade. It’s a play on words, since it’s my first town, and it was built there as sort of a trade center (see my first post). You could also think of it being a town where furs were traded a lot.

My thinking for the layout of the town is to have a commercial area over in between the river and highway. (see map) I’ve already got that mapped out, aside from the actual buildings. Historically, this used to be an area where people would do a lot of trading between the other towns that were along the same river, and over time, it was slowly replaced with modern commercial buildings.

To the right of the motorway, is the residential area. I’m currently in the process of mapping this. Historically (I really like the idea of this having a somewhat detailed history, if you can’t tell :P) people who were dealing with a lot of the trade here decided to build houses over here, so they wouldn’t have to travel so far every day. These houses were kind of built somewhat randomly, though. When this was being modernized, the local government was on a bit of a tight budget, and so they decided to keep it relatively random. So the streets will be a bit nonuniform.

Finally, below the residential area on the other side of the river, will be the government area. This will be relatively small, and have things like the town hall and such, and maybe a small park.

Let me know what you think of this so far. If you have any tips or suggestions on things I should maybe do a bit differently (since I’m new here) feel free to tell me.

Wow, I spent way longer writing this than I should have…
