After reading your feedback from my last user diary’s entry I decided to cleanse my country and start to work from the beggining. If anyone’s interested in following the progress I’ll link the map below. As of right now I’ve started placing forests in the eastern portion of the country, albeit without much detail at the moment.

P.S: The map may be bugged due to the massive deletion, but once you zoom in you can see the new stuff to the east.

News from our glorious leader TRJ!

Despite the grave atrocities of the imperialist new mappers, resulting in the flooding of our fine world, the mighty dikes of Alfenschem, constructed under the guidance of our supreme leader, took on the wall of water with ease, protecting our grateful citizens. This feat of engineering shows once more the might of Forrintian Juche thinking, and the foresight and shining brilliance of our great leader. Our vengeance will be swift and merciless. Fire will rain down on your ill-constructed cities, cities devoid of the love of our most esteemed leader. The power of Forrintia will blossom for a thousand years.

Hey guys,

I am currently writing a wiki article for my finally finished city of Alfenschem. I have spend a lot of time working on it and I am looking for a fitting sibling city. The ideal sibling city for Alfenschem would be several centuries old and have (some remainig parts of) a city wall or other fortifications left and would be relatively small (Alfenschem has around 46.000 people living in it).

Alfenschem guarded the confluence of two rivers in previous centuries, so another city with a military or trade-hub history would be fun.

Do any of you have a (small) city that (partially) matches this discription and that is still looking for a sibling city, let me know.

Thanks in advance and happy mapping!

Hello again everyone. I really appreciated the feedback I got on my last post about my central railway station and now I have redesigned my airport and need some input again. I know a lot less about airport design than I do about railway stations.

Wiki article

Dunwic Flyhthæfen International

Before today Myrcia had a huge airport which I built thinking it would be a regional hub but, realistically, I think it was over optimistic and so I decided to start over again. You can see here the difference between the two airports:

I hope this new airport is a more realistic size. I’ve also improved the transport links, simplified the motorways and re-routed some of the railways.

Let me know what you think

Vinnmark’s capital city, Berles, is now open for collaboration. After I finished the basic schema of the city, you can now collaborate on the city.

Rules

*You can map inside the circle formed by the bigger highway.

*The northern part of the city should have nordic looking names.

*The southern part of the city should have french looking names.

*It’s inspired in European cities so the central part must be old-looking and the outskirts should be modern neighbourhoods.

*Don’t map too big.

*Take in mind it’s a 1.3 million-people city.

Thanks for reading ;)

As a few of you might have noticed, a new country, Drabantia (formerly UL108e), appeared on the map. Let me tell you something about my intentions with it.

Climate and geography

Drabantia is an underachiever in terms of geography. The highest mountain is going to be 1500 m tall at most, the lowest point the lake (I’ll consent on that with the neighbouring countries.) The climate is going to be Kopper Dfb, again not breaking any records.

Population

Drabantia is an underachiever in terms of population, too. The total inhabitant count is not going to reach 5,000,000 people. (Edit: It actually did, the final population I’m going for is 5,390,000.) The largest city will have 200,000 inhabitants at most (part because I don’t like large, crowded cities and part because I’m lazy.)

Wealth

While not the most wealthy country, Drabantia maintains a high standard of living.

Politics

Politics in Drabantia are boring. There is not much happening, the government is center-liberal and left-leaning since, like, 1850.

International relations

Drabantia is irrelevant and rarely gets to throw its 2¢ in on international level. However, that’s also the reason it has never been threatened or invaded: because no one really cares about it.

The country is open to all international relations, though. Just message me if you want to trade embassies!

Resources and industry

Thanks to the government infiltrated by the Green Party, the few natural resources Drabantia has are rather unexploited. It’s not like they’re anything very valuable anyway: the major ones include granite, clay and glass sand.

Drabantia is an industrial country. If you don’t mind the strict environmental rules, you can open a bussiness in there too: just message me (and wait till like, october, I’ll have designed some industrial and retail areas by then hopefully).

Greatest achievements and inventions

The following are things Drabantians are proud of:

  • Contact lenses
  • Press freedom
  • Potato pies

I have been puzzled for a while by this: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/-45.70595/70.17565

There is a white ‘island’ here, but in JOSM there are no nodes or coastline ways there. It is over a month since I changed it. Originally it was a district maritime boundary which I managed to accidentally tag as natural=coastline. But although I’ve removed the coastline tag - and shifted the way slightly - the white area remains. So it looks to me as if the render hasn’t updated on this bit of coastline. Can anyone tell me why, and if there is a way to fix it?

I wish I could go back just a couple of weeks to show everyone what St. Richards used to look like in Pretany. I am really trying to strengthen my detailed mapping skills over the past couple of days and St. Richards has been my guinea pig. Here is the new and improved Richards Point in Pretany. There was a former park that was relatively isolated, and now it is the hub of the new National Assembly. Many more details are emerging as I map, and I am finding it easier to add to the map once I already have something established.

I have a proposal to make, that we have annual awards for outstanding mapping, wiki articles and conception in the OGF project. A chief purpose is to showcase to new users good practice, but also to bring to the wider community attention map edits that they might not come across when viewing the map.

My suggested categories would be:

Best large city (over 500,000 projected population) Best small city or town (under 500,000 projected population) Best natural feature (river, national park, mountain range etc) Best transport feature (detailed railway tracks, motorway junctions, realistic airport) The Commonia Award for Restraint in Motorway Building and Grid Cities (not replicating Shanghai on every available grid square)

Best collaborative project Best wiki article Best created image (banknotes, stamps, etc) Best image editing (real-world image edited to be in OGF) Best cultural invention (most compelling, believable and inventive national or regional cultural feature, including language) Best OGF News article Best new member (any user joined in the last 12 months who has made substantial progress in mapping and upheld the spirit of OGF)

Suggested process:

For reasons mentioned above, we will allow users to nominate their own work, as others may not be aware of its existence. You may nominate to the longlist as many things to as many categories as you wish. After a certain date users will vote to nominate eight-ten or each to the shortlist, these will then be voted on either by a panel or by the whole community.

There is a general rule that the object nominated must have been created or substantially edited in the last twelve months to be eligible, however as this will be the first awards this will be less strictly adhered to. I would allow for example Khaiwoon to be nominated for best city even though most of the work took place.

Feedback please!

I created two new Infoboxes for:
- Roads (means Highways, Trunks/Expressways, Primary Roads, (Secondary Roads))
- Landscapes

Infobox Road

The infobox road is usable for large connection roads, like highways, trunks/expressways and primary roads, maybe also secondary roads. For minor roads and streets in towns and other residential areas, please use the Infobox street, which offers more details for suburban areas.

In addition to infoboxes, I created some courses of highways, which aren’t finished yet. Highway 1 (Gobrassanya). The symbols on the left are the templates I created for interchanges, exits, … As they’re drawn in 5 minutes, they don’t seem like much, so maybe someone who is interested in symbols, can draw some nicer versions or add additional symbols? Resolution is 28x28px. A complete category about the symbols can be found here.

Infobox Landscape

I don’t have to say much about that, I guess. A simple infobox that shows general informations about a landscape.

Feel free to edit the infoboxes and add additional informations, if you’re aknowledged with the theme.

For first I overwatched the already existing “Infobox street”, so is there a category that shows all infoboxes? If not, there should be one, to beware of multiple infoboxes.

Order is important!

As I saw some road infoboxes are already taken for other countries, which is nice to notice. I tried to create a system for highway images, templates, … in Gobrassanya. Maybe, it would useful to make all road article namings (and numerations) in a special system.

I have the following idea of article naming:
“Highway 1 (Gobrassanya)”
“Expressway 323 (Gobrassanya)”
“Primary Road 13 (Gobrassanya)”
“Secondary Road 12 (Gobrassanya)”
…
(See the numbers of the roads just as random, the structure of the article name is important)

I think this is a good system of structuring the data in the wiki. Images of the reference numbers just get .png at the end so it is

I am planning on redoing both of these cities and using my current experience in Nigeria to make them feel more third world like. For example both of These cities are entirely too connected, while in Nigeria on map a city may look indistinguishably connected, but in real life their may only be one road connecting two areas of 100,000 people. Since this city has a plethora of grids they are a lot more connected than a true third world (unplanned) city would be. I plan on putting a lot more industrial areas in both those cities and deleting a downgrading a few highways and streets. I would like constructive criticism (not having to deal with railroads for either city as Avewood for commuter rail is a mess. While the Novograd government doesn’t allow commuter rail. I will most likely ask for help with railroads after reading a few wiki articles.) on these cities and what you think I should focus on. Seeing as computer access is bad you may not see me edit these cities at all for a few weeks, it just depends on a few factors.
