Hi! Even through recently I’ve been doing some stuff in Midistland, I’m also working on my own country. Ligota is suppposed to be the capital of Shilesia, I want the city to be the OGF equivalent of Katowice (with some slight modifications - instead of mining and industry there will be trade and maybe some tourism thanks to the Hetzer Lake. And the city will be bigger). Even through it’s still very early to ask for feedback I’d like to ask now and later have less problems with the city. Particularily, I want to know your opinion on:

  • Multilingual mapping - I’ve added name:de and name:en tags, so on different computer settings it should render in Ingerish and Welsish (aka Gaerman, Kalmish and however do you want to call German here). Is that a good solution or should I abandon it?
  • Building style - there aren’t very much of these in the city right now, but these that are there aren’t aligned with anything. Is this style of mapping buildings okay? If no, is there an option in JOSM allowing to draw perfectly straight and even buildings in better tempo than 1 building/hour.
  • The road layouts - I’m actually quite happy with how it looks, but I’m looking forward to see your feedback.

Things that need to be done right now, are: a small overhaul of railways - the tracks are too far apart from each other, more buildings, more names, names that are here need to be checked if they are Silesian or just broken Silesian and of course names in forgein languages which may be wrong (I’m not the language guru :D ). Greetings

Hello everyone,

I’m a relatively new addition to this community (I’ve only been here for 5 or 6 months), and I love working on my country, Sãikyel. But one thing has been nagging me for the past few weeks: Sãikyel has virtually no economy. With the population it purports to have, my country has to have a steady influx of currency and a stable financial system. I’m not aware of any natural resources that my area has (but then again, I’m guilty for not having looked), so I was wondering if anyone around southern Uletha would like to cooperate with me to establish some multinational banks in that area?

My plan is to have Sãikyel become the “Switzerland of the continent”, a small, neutral country with a large banking economy. To this end, I have already established a few enormous banking corporations (way too big for a tentative offer like this) which I have already posted on Sãikyel’s page (SãiBank, Sãikyel and Uletha Republic Bank, etc.). I might have been too enthusiastic, but combined, the Big Seven banks have a market cap of just under USD532 billion.

If anyone wants to help me expand Sãikyel’s banking system and make it go multinational, I will be glad to take you up on your offer!

Thank you, Stara Zagora

An update on Lunaris, the town I’ve opened as a sort of collaborative mini-project to see if the community could build a town together.

It seems to have grown a lot, a freeway has been added to the island for access apart from the railroad, many roads have been added, the railroad expanded into the city itself, a few parks and a meadow have been added, a lake: Lake Aquelle, has been added, along with so much more. Specifically, a football club, two supermarkets, a restaurant, hardware store, light house, hospital, courthouse, town hall, and even an elementary school have been added!

I can’t wait to see the city in the future, though why has there been minimal development in the Iterum-Vitae ruins?

Also, just a note, Lunaris is Latin in nature, not just strictly Roman-style Latin, Latin as a whole. Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Romanian, feel free to style portions of the city after these cultures.

Cheers, Nomine.

Merry Christmas from Wesmandy, Nadolig Llawen o Tircambry, Joyeux Noël de Cernou!

It’s nearly the end of the year, so I thought it was time that I posted an update on Wesmandy.

My intention - late in 2015 - was to develop Wesmandy chronologically : map the whole country (not in too much detail) as it was in the year 1400, and then update it century-by-century while writing the history at the same time, until I got to the modern era. Since medieval towns are small and simple, and villages are even simpler, I naïvely imagined that I could have the 1400 “baseline” completed by about June …

It’s now December and I am nowhere near completing the whole of Wesmandy 1400. I have roughly mapped rivers, main roads and administrative boundaries throughout the country, and put nodes for cities, towns and villages, but have only done more detailed work in my three eastern shires of Cilveyland, Eskland and Southclist : about 20% of the total land area. There are various reasons for this, including wildly underestimating the effort needed, changing my mind about exactly what I’m mapping, getting diverted by other things (e.g. Porthbrenin), which I’ve done historically from 1400 to 1900) and simply not having as much time on OGF as I would like.

If I keep going like this, it will be years before Wesmandy joins the rest of you in the 21st century (am I the only person who didn’t map a single motorway in 2016? :) ). I enjoy “mapping medieval”, but it is frustrating to not to have Wesmandy in the modern world, so I’m thinking of changing tactics and doing my historical mapping area-by-area rather than keep the whole country in step. The national history will get written as I take the first area forward through time, so, with luck, Wesmandy will have a 21st-century presence sometime in 2017.

Water, water, everywhere!

1 Don’t go speaking English to a regional eatery in the city of Maisoneuve. They will roll their eyes at you. 2. USD, CDN, all the money from the real life and OGF world are legal to be traded, but if you bring a rock on tuesday you get $50 Planorian 3. Please don’t do the popular trend called dabbing, the residents dislike it. 4. Do not vandalize the posters (You will be charged $25,000 Planorian) 5. Bring bug spray during the summer, by that time a group of mosquitoes would be hungry for a meal 6. Please do not blast music, it annoys people. 7. Once you arrive at the airport, don’t run, unless you have to rush or you need to use the restroom 8. The Galacticburger Fast food eatery has tons of good food to fill you up when your hungry, but you need to drive 45 minutes from Arlington to get to the only one with a virtual cart you have on your phone. 9. don’t blast country music, or just not any music. if you wanna blast it, make sure it’s not on ear exploder mode.

Thats the travel tips

After a month or two in which I modified to some extent Conabaras, having size issues, and even though it’s two months since I started, everything looks very simple and so easy to modify. Let’s see what I have in Conabaras:

Sanelta Islands (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/10.8913/37.3413)

Sanelta Islands, which is simply what I have called the Diomede Islands (Two Islands between USA and Russia) If they were in the tropic. I’ve built 4 cities there, and one tribe reservation. Nothing really special is going on, but it’s possible to take a ferry to Nalassa, or just fly over to there. These islands were originally supposed to represent something similar to Fiji. These islands are about done, however I plan to add a few more hamlets and villages, and transform the tribe to a village.

Nalassa (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=14/11.1829/37.0563)

The resizing project cut about half of what I wanted, however it seems so that everything was so small compared to other nations. In any case, Nalassa is only taking it’s first construction steps, and an airport already exists. Not so far there’s a war city and a reservation. Nalassa is the capital of Conabaras, and ironically it is the least worked on currently city. Hopefully now everything is resized to the normal size.

Habaus Island (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=13/11.3304/37.0274)

Though there isn’t much I can tell, this is my current project. The island is meant to be something like a Buddhist island, where everyone in the south of the island is a monk, or believes in the local religion. The local people practice meditation in the Antare temple, however the rest of the city is a tourist bait. From the city of Habaus you can enter to the tribal territory, however it is supposed to be a modern-yet-tribal city (yes I know I’m adding tribes everywhere, but check the wiki page). This is yet to be added.

Welcome to Marie City, the primate city of Hoppon and the center of a huge megalopolis (possibly might be the biggest “metro” in OGF)!

I want to hear your ideas on how I can improve what I already map and what I should try to incorporate into the future. I am not even close to done but if you see how much mapping I have been doing over the break, it may appear that this city just appeared out of nowhere. I still need to create a wiki article and most of my ideas have been written on paper. But this is the brainchild of Hong Kong and Tokyo openstreetmap+google (most of my ideas are from there).

Some tidbits. Their are zero named roads because I am using the Japanese address system, which uses blocks instead of intersections to find were you are. and so it will be easier to go and name roads after if they are either numbers or just major roads.

The Construction areas are places I reserved for future mapping, since often cities will have a large “block”, whether it is the blocks including Central Park, New York. Or Tokyo’s imperial palace, or simply a large school or university, these blocks are reserved for unknown things I might put in the future such as a stadium or large hotel..

Some of my poorer areas will also have large blocks and the words “danchi” because it is supposed to be a large collection of government housing. Here is one in Nete http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/29.2125/117.5215

I did this to “distinguish” rich and poor because in dense cities like Tokyo their isn’t much “geographical difference” as in the rich and poor often have similar sized apartments and houses, and the main difference is that the rich/middle class areas tend to cluster around the center of Tokyo and to the vast majority of eastern wards. While the poorest areas are either near red light districts in the center or along the river in the northern wards of the city. Tokyo also has “danchi”, but the ones in my city are large and more noticeable compared to Tokyo’s.

Hello Mappers!

I am ready to open Drevet to a small number of collaborators to work out any possible issues with the collaboration platform. If anyone is interested in one of the jobs listed in the Collaboration Page, please send me a message with a job you are interested in. I will open collaboration to the first 3 mappers who apply.

If the test run is successful, I will fully open Drevet to collaboration by New Year’s.

Thanks for everyone’s help and advice!
