The OGF World is full of wonderful features such as this, this and these as well.

All of these have been accomplished using determination and effort, and have a really effective turnout.

@EMKLI mentioned this idea before!

However, it would be nice if we could take more inspiration from the real world. A good example of this would be the island stretching from Norðurland to ER137/138/139. They could stretch more, in fact why not have some sort of “Aleutian Islands” in that area. This would create a “Hesperic Ring of Fire”.

Or for example the South. Why not have a sort of Antarctica like land mass, that could be a collaborative territory, but basically that would make it divided by the different users’ countries.

Comment for more ideas!

I was very impressed by the quality and detail of recent feedback given to other users, e.g. Myrcia, so I decided to throw myself out there, too.

As many know, my current project this past half year or so has been the city-state of Tárrases. I don’t feel that it is complete, but it has definitely reached a point where I feel somewhat happy with the progress I have been making.

http://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/-64.0167/98.3707

Some statistics:

  • 198.6 sq km land area
  • 390,000 proposed population
  • ~6900 named objects
  • ~29000 buildings
  • ~1030 km of tagged highways
  • ~276 km of tagged waterways (including irrigation ditches)

Also worth exploring - the topo view:

So take a look, and please give some constructive criticism, or any ideas, suggestions or observations. I want to hear them. I may not always follow all advice (I’m somewhat stubborn), but I still would be happy to hear it.

I’m looking at my main city, and it appears to me that the hills / national recreation area that I have near my city makes the area I have slated for my downtown pretty dang small. I’m thinking about moving the main downtown area to the east of the Gottlieb river. It seems to me there’d be more traffic over there.

The elementary school I created is potentially too big, so I’m going to reduce it in size, and make it multi floor.

When I laid out the grid system in my city, I used 500 ft as the length and width of an average block. After a while curiosity got the better of me, and I looked up what the size of an average block in the grid-riddled city of Chicago is, and it turns out each side is an average of 660 feet. I’m going to continue to use 500 ft. as the default for my first two communities, but am considering 660 for any future development.

I’m now considering putting some barrier islands along the northern shore of my country, and developing some seaside resort communities there.

I have recently started experiencing a highly irritating problem in JOSM - objects are randomly rotated without my moving them. It appears to be occurring when I switch to another window, and causes massive damage to my map. I have been very careful to check everything is deselected when panning, scaling or rotating anything, yet the problem persists.

Any advice?

This month I’ve been working on outer Dunwic, some farm land but also the satellite eards (boroughs) of Washinburh and Burdwic.

Washinburh - http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/56.3564/19.2950

Universitet Washinburh - http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/56.35943/19.30157

Burdwic - http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/56.34238/19.18348

I think the Dunwic urban area is starting to make sense now, to feel like a real and full city and not just a collection of half-finished neighbourhoods. I am always interested to know what people think, in particular any constructive criticism.

It’s taken ages, but the first pass of the Albedeer University campus in Gobras City is complete… Next up is more shops & facilities, but that can wait a bit. And the far west of the campus…

If you know where to look there’s still a fair bit of the original plan by Wal there.

I am back from my travels, and will be mapping again. I also hope to do some work on developing a user “forum” environment for the wiki.

I visited friends and relatives in 5 US states in 2 weeks, including California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Alaska. As is to be expected, all that traveling has got me thinking of some ideas for things to map. My time in my erstwhile home in Southeast Alaska, especially, has inspired me about Mahhal (which basically has its real-world origins in my time living there), so maybe I’ll be doing some work on that.

First step: I need to increase the fjord and lake and island density. A lot.

Here’s a nice lake and some mountains seen during a day-trip down to a Native American settlement:

Here’s the head of fjord where my uncle’s house is:

Hello, fellow mappers!

I forgot to say that October 2016 marked my second year anniversary of mapping on OpenGeofiction. When I first joined OGF in 2014, I started out mapping in AR901 (before it was named Rhododactylia) with the city of Eriwynne, and eventually, I got my chance to own UL016 (Belphenia) and started mapping my first city there with Shadowsnow City. Two years later, I completed my island country, Erzaleria, and I am in the process of developing Maydien and most areas in Belphenia.

And now, this is my response to Luciano’s Mapper’s Challenge for November, so I had been working on the Mikasatshi rivershed lately, and I got a chance to practice making a delta at the south end of the Mikasatshi River in southwestern Belphenia for my first time. Now that I am planning to make the rivers of Belphenia to be more realistic as possible.

So how do you like my new development?
