Hi everyone! I created a new city north of a small town it’s National Park. Obviously, I need to fix up the freeway and major things, and I’m going to add a big addition west of the city.

What are your thoughts so far? Any criticism is supported, but keep in mind this is a “Regional” City, not a major one. So the motorway doesn’t need to be changed, unless y’all have better ideas. Thank you!

Location: AN153

People have been expressing discontent with my national flag. In reality, I don’t care what you think, but to pacify those who are angry, I have listed some proposals for a new flag made by me and other users here: https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Talk:Capitalia (SCROLL DOWN)

Please comment some of your thoughts, and which design you prefer on the talk page.

I myself would prefer Proposal 1 or 3.

Hey OGF World!

So, I just saw this interesting video on clichés from countries around the world and thought “Hey, what would it be like here in the OGF world?”

So, I’m here to ask people to create a cliché from their OGF country that may or may not be true! Feel free to add it to the comments. I can’t wait to see what you guys create!

Here’s an example:

Leresso (my country): We drink a lot of wine (true, kind of).

Hello, everyone!

It’s time for this month’s mapping challenge. The focus this month will once again turn to culture and tourism, but with a different spin.

Imagine you’re walking through your favorite bookstore in another country. You stop at the travel section, and what do you see? A travel guide from Sociable Planet (or some other company) about your country! What does it say inside?

Your challenge is to create a few new places that would be highlights in a travel book about your country. The possibilities are almost endless: museums, religious buildings, historical sites, nature walks, parks, abandoned buildings, unique sporting events, concert venues, restaurants and hotels, unique architecture, fun beaches, etc. How detailed you go is up to you. As you complete your new work, share it for the community either below or in on forum page. But, I’d encourage you to post more than one creation! If you’d really like to play along, go ahead and give it a rating or a cost below, too.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask a friend! As always, I’ll do my best to provide feedback where I can. Good luck, everyone!

Hopefully this will be a fun challenge for people. I already have a ton of ideas and things in the works. What about you?

Hey, guys, I have a question. Actually, questions:

How much should the population of a city be to make it… ‘major’? I know that you can’t just make a point, call it a city, and put its population to 150 mn, saying it is major. Also, how much should the pop. be for it to have: an airport, its own companies, big parks, and others.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I am ready to host Geovision, but under a different style.

On my previous post about Geovision, people suggested that i do a festival instead.

I would like to build a venue, but as always, I will need a bit of help.

So, I am searching for well-experienced users who can help me build the venue.

The 1st Geovision Song Festival (besides the contests) will be held on the 23rd and 24th July 2018 on Pioneers Island, Skalenia!!!

The press center will be in neighboring Franquese town of Saint-Pascal.

Well, Bhj867 and I have just finished zoning off the Pretanic Demilitarised Zone (PDZ), possibly one of the longest heavily fortified border in the world. Not wanting to brag, but it is quite significant even in the OGF world.

If you (an Antigoan) try to even enter the zone, 40 bullets will start hailing at you, and possibly 3 to 5 grenades will be thrown, and last of all, get exploded by a landmine before you can cross to paradise in Pretany. Charming. (Antigoan Propaganda-Why even try to escape the paradise of Antigo and go to the hell in Pretany? Why also die in this disgraceful manner?)

Comparing to the Korean Demilitarised Zone, it is much longer, and zigzags crazily not on one straight latitude (the DMZ in Korea used to go along the 38th parallel, but the current one is not). However, it is still slightly too straight for some parts.

There are still some more things to do, such as adding more army bases on both sides, creating a Joint Security Area where negotiations can take place, and make it more zig-zag-gy like this.

The border is believed to be formed after an armistice is signed between the two states of Pretany and Antigo following some sort of civil war. Similar to how the DMZ in Korea is created.

Behind the senses, bhj867 and I are still discussing for potential border conflicts, such as a case for hikers from Rickorack Reserve getting lost and entering Antigo by accident. (Hike at your own risk!)

A recent change in my free time priorities gave me some extra time, so I used the opportunity to work on Wyster a bit more intensively. As of today, three out of fourteen counties of Wyster have been completely covered with stuff. This doesn’t mean that I have finished with them: names and buildings and other things still have to be added. And since it concerns three of the smaller counties, I can tell with certainty that I won’t be finished any time soon.

A few months ago I decided to wipe my first city in Glaster, Ellmouth, clean straight off the map. It was simply too outdated in relation to my current mapping style, so I deleted the entire thing. Being a very sentimental person, I decided to keep the original Ellmouth as an OSM file, as well as leaving some places or landmarks tagged as ‘line=yes’, just as a testament for what was once there. It would be useful to re-render the old Ellmouth and lay it over my current work. Old screenshots of Ellmouth do exist, but they are all at either a too low or too high zoom level to be useful at the current time. Is there any way of rendering the OSM data without uploading it to OGF?

Mappingwise I’ve taken a break from Plowford and have started rebuilding Ellmouth now, mostly here, although my progress has somewhat ground to a halt. I don’t exactly know where to go with my mapping now. I feel like I should do something significantly interesting to the place, rather than normal, everyday kind of interesting I am accustomed to mapping. Any suggestions?

Happy mapping!

I just became aware of a comparatively new WebGL globe framework (via weeklyOSM), which looks very promising:

http://www.openglobus.org/

Make sure to look at the examples. It’s not yet possible to add arbitrary 3D objects, like e.g. buildings but it seems to be planned. WeeklyOSM mentioned that the developer asked for data city models in the OSM forum, so exciting times might lie ahead…

For an OGF example, see here: https://tile.opengeofiction.net/util/openglobus.html

Hi there!

Because I was uncertain of some renderings, especially of the wetland subtag, which isn’t further explained on the OSM map features page, I’ve decided to use some empty space in Nor∂urland to create a rendering test area. I will keep it there as long as I don’t use this area (and then I will move it elsewhere), so if you are interested, take a look at:

This problem has having me troubled for long: When I search my city’s name, why does it show a tertiary road called Calle Orós instead of my city? Whenever I want to know how to get to my city to, suppose, Katsnelson or Dolala, I have to always search up from Blaan instead of my city, which isn’t that accurate in the sense of time.

Hopefully someone knows why…
