I’ve got 2 issues on my mind right now:

I’m stuck on what to do for Decton’s town centre. There is a significant amount left to be completed but I’ve got no ideas on what to put in it. I’m thinking of turning Decton’s Centre temporarily into a ‘blue zone’, which anyone can edit. This way I can finish it quicker.

Rules I propose will be:

  1. You can only make buildings-do not alter existing structures.
  2. Minor edits to streets are fine, but overall I have the last say. Please do not delete anything without consulting me first.
  3. Try to blend in with my/everyone else’s style.
  4. Keep in mind the context, which is based in England.

Meanwhile, I need to do something else. What do you think I should do? Here is my to do list so far:

  1. Fix Ellmouth. It looks a total mess. Low priority, as this will require a lot of time.
  2. Finish my Historical Decton project (see my previous diary entry) Medium urgency, as I need to green up the area there.
  3. Do something with the landscape (Fix and add rivers, make the rest of Glaster green) Medium urgency, as my country’s infrastructure depends on this. It is currently happening at a very slow pace.
  4. Fix the port around Reyston, which hasn’t been changed much since I came. Low urgency, can be done at any time without consequence.
  5. Reduce and alter the courses of my motorways. High urgency, as this alters my country in its entirety. Currently not happening
  6. Add in and fix existing minor country roads. Urgency is low, as that would probably come after the ‘greening’
  7. Add details to other settlements (My current choices are either Wyndham, Plowford or Tibrin) Urgency: High. I want to do this. Sort of. I feel guilty if I start another project before I’ve finished my current one. In fact, the only large settlement that is currently wholly complete is Stewhampton.

I had mentioned before that I was struggling to figure out the Woolport subway system. I may have made a little progress.

Here’s the link to the OGF map of Woolport… http://www.opengeofiction.net/#map=12/-30.5957/32.9494

Using Google drawings and trying to trace the subway tracks, understanding the slight influence from New York City, I was able to come up with this: 1st attempt- map

I don’t think everything is accurate yet, but this is my first attempt. Does it look somewhat accurate to you guys?

Since my move from Archanta to Uletha I’ve had to re-jig my international connections. As such I’m once again asking to set up some air routes for Myrcian Airways.

Dunwic International Airport is a large, international hub for north-western Uletha and so I’m looking for flights across the northern hemisphere and I want to have them for both Myrcian Airways and your own airlines.

Hello everyone!

It’s been a few months since my last progress update and a lot has changed since then. I’ve been working on all kinds of projects, and there are even more to come. But I’m working slowly on this city and not rushing it.

Autistic as I am, I’m keeping track of everything and made a scheme of my progress including dates and color labels here.

Furthermore, I’ve been working on two specific projects lately: the port and the metro system. None of them are remotely finished, but it’s taking shape and I would like to share some of it with you.

Port of Trevers

I’ve never been quite good at making ports, and there is not really a “concept” for how to make a perfect one: there are so many different kinds and sizes in the world. But I think I made quite a good start roughly sketching the quays, basins and docks. There is also a new canal to connect the eastern branch of the port with the river Vale. I made a few dams so I didn’t have to change too much about the water circulation again.

There is also a ferry terminal right here. I’ve been trying to work as detailed as I possibly could, leaving some elements not even rendered by Mapnik, but they’re there. There is currently one connection and I hope there will be many more in the future.

In front of the ferry terminal I’ve build some storm surge barriers, to make sure the boats and passengers are safe. These to barriers are on each side and will rotate to the middle point when water is getting to high or too rough.

Hello All,

I am having a good deal of trouble learning about the OGF world, such that it has been drawn and wiki-ed to date. I am looking for a broad history and narrative, and even though the world is young and hugely incomplete I know there is plenty out there already. (Languages, migrations, religions, wars, colonial and imperial backstories, etc.) How best do I track those bigger, trans-national ideas down? The trouble is the fundamentally piecemeal nature of the map and especially wiki, and this is by design I know. I don’t expect to be bound to someone else’s history, but I would like to learn it and have the opportunity to play off it in an intelligent way. The “wiki everything around me in widening circles and ignore inconsistency while trying to make sense out of the small amount of overlap in entries” strategy is not working well.

So: What’s the closest thing we have to an accumulated history of the world? Or, asked in a more manageable way: How would a new user learn a little about the world before he or she is let loose upon it?

I know this is a big topic but the question is asked to try to make a richer and more interesting product. Thanks in advance, r.s.

I’ve been recently busy with university. But I took small amounts of time to work in Aŭstrasuno Tero. Recently I’ve been updating the map, with the basic road network and the development of the capital, Aŭstraĉerfubo -South Capital, in english-. By the general geography of the country, I’ve made some new maps over the blank one showed in the previous diary entry.

The first map is about biome and mountains. Mountains are marked as puncted line. At the north, in dark green, the temperate forest, an area of dense forests and wet weather caused because the warm oceanic current. At the center south, in light green, the taiga. In brown the tundra and in blue high mountain glaciers. Bioma

It lefts many work on the physical geography, such as rivers and a better height map, but it is on the way.

Hello everyone,

I’ve got a difficult question. As you all know, there are churches and other religion buildings in our OGF world. But I was always thinking: what text is (for example) in the bible in this world? Cause, there is no Israel in our world. Does someone know the answer, or are there no rules made up about this here?

Greetings, Niels20020

As I did some mapping of planet Earth during the last week (read here what planet Earth is, if you don’t know :) ), I temporarily set JOSM to connect to the OSM server. Actually, I mapped all buildings with housenumbers and special addresses in Keitum, Sylt island, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Yesterday I continued in OGF but for some stupid reason forgot to switch back to the OGF server. As I had loaded a locally saved .osm file I didn’t recognize this until I uploaded the changesets and got completely strange JOSM error messages. The changesets have already been reverted in OSM (or are going to be soon) but for a short time, northern Kalmian stuff appeared within the forests between Moscow and Yaroslavl in Russia. Here you can see at least the railway station: Brenta, Russia

See my blog entry at OSM.

But finally, after a bit of late night work yesterday, here it is now, the small coastal town of Brenta, Assen canton, Nordland region, Republic Kalm.

Happy mapping! joschi81

What exactly is this? http://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/-15.0814/176.9870

The relation doesn’t have an ID; it looks like a user just made some islands in the middle of the ocean and started mapping without consulting with anyone.

Worse, the world overview map at http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Territories shows it as a blue territory and thinks it is as part of Rhododactylia, which it clearly is not. It doesn’t show up in http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Territories_List either.

Hello, so my interest for OGF sparked again, but sadly is reached a blockade. I can’t seem to set up JOSM for OGF properly, the FAQ is not as much of a help either and now JOSM is complaining about proxies for some reason. So the problem is this: I have pointed JOSM to the OGF servers, but nothing seems to happen, JOSM doesnt pull data from OGF at all, and the map downloading thing as background also seemed to fail. Can someone explain me step by step how I would set up JOSM for OGF? I’d appreciate it.

One question I brought up at yesterday’s online meet-up (which ended up being text only) was women mappers. I’m curious as to how many of us are women. It feels like nearly all are male. From some comments I heard, it seems that most fictional mappers happen to be men. I have no idea if that is true. But I wonder why?

And I wonder, do women feel welcome here?

Personally, it seems strange that mappers tend to be men. As with most things, I think having good representation from both sexes tends to make things richer, more complex and, well, better.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
