Hello all!

Detailed work continues on my nation’s capital. On the north side of the city, still within the city limits, I have built a mall. The mall has four major stores along the outside. I would love to offer someone the opportunity for me to import a store of another country.

If anyone has a shop (department store or something else) you think would be good for a mall, I would love to import your products and build a store here in my city!

Hi there. I’m still working on Aŭstrasuno Tero. I’ve been modifying the coastline, but OGF lasts too much in update it. Also I had many problems on it, principally with JOSM, which wasn’t updated. I recently updated now. In other hand, there are some glaciers and rivers on the territory. It may look somekind of odd, but its because the coastline isn’t updated.

About the language, I have decided to take two languages for the nation: Mahhalian in the north peninsula and Esperanto (“Esperintish”, trying to figure out in OGF) in the south peninsula. In the middle there should be an status quo between both language, just as happens with spanish and catalan. Not sure if maybe will derive into political troubles, but it is just too early for say that.

It is all for now. I’m still working in new maps.

Hi all, I’d like your thoughts on something.

I have at present a motorway going from the south-west corner of Karolia, near Gorjee/Samacja up to the north, designated the A7. The road serves the towns of Masval and Lors and then state capital of Riispere, also an important tourist centre. My question is, should the motorway continue north? Although not the highest part of the Taamras mountains, the area is pretty undulating, has a lot of lakes and rivers, many natural landscapes and national parks, and isn’t particularly populated. Arguments for the road continuing are that the area is a big tourist attraction, and ski resort, and that Karolia needs a main road link to the country to the north, which could be reached through a tunnel or pass. Many alpine countries I’ve visited do have motorways in high-altitude and remote areas (ie the ‘Autoroute Blanc’ from Lyon to Geneva) but these are connecting main cities. As Zanyzzix isn’t very developed, I have no idea what I might be connecting north of the border.

Options I’m considering are:

  1. The A7 continues on its current course towards the border with minor alterations, and is kept to motorway standard with tunnels and bridges. Expensive, but Karolia has high taxes, and the economic benefits could be justified.
  2. The A7 is downgraded to a primary road at Pekkamu, and is twistier but keeps roughly its current course towards the border
  3. The road takes a course closer to Kiisjaarvi (the large lake, important tourist attraction) and may be downgraded for environmental sensitivity
  4. The road veers to the right towards Meridonia (which still takes it through mountain areas) and remains motorway to cross the border on flatter ground further east.

I need some Railway Suggestions because so far my railways have been not so good. I’m working on a railway called Link Intercity Rail Witch will have characteristics like Amtrak IE; Intercity, Underfunded, Underused, Expensive, Mostly Diesel, Not many tracks and underused. I also have the main rail line and some fright and abandoned rail lines.

I’ve came up with my highway system 1 or 2 digit H roads are limited access highways B roads are short and parts are limited access but others are not and 3 digit H roads are Connectors. R roads are major roads and roads without a prefix are old roads List of H roads: H1 Border to H2 H2 border to Stamford H5 not done H45 H53 to above Stamford H53 H2 to eastward H102 loops around city B roads B1 B2 R roads R17 R34 R54 Old roads 144

Before Decton gets too big, I just want to check if there is anything to improve about it. Decton is quite an unusual town, as it was is situated on the edge of South Glaster, along the former border with North Glaster, which was just north of the town.

I’ve tried to include a number of historical details into my mapping: look at Luxen Street, Decton Middlepass or Peters Road, for example. I’ve attempted to draw road layouts consistent to British timeframes e.g. the straight grids for the early 1900s and the concentric curves for the ‘postwar’ housing developments, along with patches of denser, modern housing built on former inner city industrial land, south of the town centre. There is also a retail park and a light industrial estate built on the site of a railway yard and engine sheds in the south. Of course, it’s far from finished, but this list also serves a reminder for me when I get round to writing its wiki article.

Hi again. I’ve been working on the planning of the geography in AN150k. But first, I’ve been decided a name: Aŭstrasuno Tero. Which means Land of the south sun in esperanto. The country will be esperanto-based, which it could be an isolated languaje for the OGF universe -or I don’t know if there is another one which is using this idea-.

Hey there, maybe someone could give me a quick tip how to fix this issue?

I’ve downloaded the most recent OGF-backup, and cropped it with osmconvert to make some edits to Kojo’s railway network. So as usual I selected “13b”, to convert to .osm and keep ways and areas that go across the cropped area. When I opened the resulting file in JOSM however, it only showed point; ways and areas inside the selected area weren’t shown, however ways that DID go across the border for some reason showed up, see first picture:

As you can see the filter in JOSM is turned off. To test whether the problem might have been related to osmconvert, I directly exported a small area from the OGF map. When opening that chunk of data in JOSM, I get the result you can see in the second picture above. Ways etc. are shown, however they all look the same and are indistinguishable from another.

It might be important to mention that I use a new PC, and therefore had to install all tools mentioned above anew. Anyone who know what the issue is, and how I can resolve it? Thank you in advance :)

Hi everybody! New Year soon, so it’s time for changes! :D

Is there anybody who would like to design some roads for me? I can do everything myself but I need a plan. I think that the X2, X3, X4 and X6 are okay and I have some other main roads planned but maybe too much and I think some of them are wrong placed… For example X5 (around Haelchester) or Z2 (below Ashbourne). I need to connect most of the main cities with highways or some other major roads so it looks “normal” :) Not too much, not too few.

Here you can see what are the types of the roads in my country with their speed limits: http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/National_roads_in_Chastechek

Map

I’ll add some more curves to the already existing roads of course ;)

Any suggestions? :) Thanks in advance!

I would like to share with you all my progress on the city of Paliiso, Karolia, and invite any advice and criticisms you can offer. Its location is, as far as I have seen, a unique concept in OGF, being built on a series of islands in a wide river estuary. In this respect it is a mixture of Venice and Mumbai, but also with many elements of Helsinki, Oxford and perhaps Hamburg, Lubeck or Copenhagen. You can read about its history and background here http://opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Paliiso. The city has a great many canals, an ‘old town’ and a ‘new city’ and various interesting islands, including a baroque hospital and a zoo. There is an airport to the north although this is more of a regional stop than an international gateway.

http://new.opengeofiction.net/#map=14/51.5198/112.4052

The city is not yet finished as at least two of the islands need streets and other details, but it’s central area is pretty much done, with the major buildings in place. I’m aware there are some small errors to be fixed and many of the streets still need naming. However there are some things I can’t quite decide what to do with. Is there anything obviously missing beside fire stations and a courthouse? Would Tolvasaar, Puhanesaar and the mainland around Vaisiis be more residential, commercial or something else? What should go immediately to the south of the university? is the industrial area and port near the airport too big?

Karolian probably isn’t that obvious to English speakers, so a few useful words are listed here:

Vana = old; Uus = new; Linn = city/town; Kai = quay; Varashus; town hall; Losse = castle; Saar = island; Kesk = central; Jaam = station; Juvilii = jewellery; kool = school; Pohja = north; Sudt = south; Liidu = state (one of 21 that make up the Federal Republic).
